Jennie Kim, who is the rapper of Blackpink was caught in a vaping controversy some months back. She was seen vaping indoors and blew smoke on the face of her makeup artiste. The video got her immense backlash from Korean netizens. People trolled her saying that she needed to have some basic manners. After seeing the flak on social media, Jennie Kim’s management said that she deeply regretted her actions. Her label OA Entertainment said that she is apologetic towards everyone who might have been offended, and towards her staff too, if anyone experienced some kind of discomfort. As we know, there are strict rules on vaping in Korea.
The statement said, “Jennie acknowledges and deeply regrets her mistake of vaping indoors and causing inconvenience to the staff.” Global fans of Blackpink said Korean fans/netizens were too rigid in how they treated idols. In her interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Jennie Kim said, “What can I do? If Korean people think it’s wrong, I’ve got to make up for it. It’s like, I get why you guys are upset. It’s cultural, it’s history. It’s time. And I can’t go against time.” Korea, like most Asian nations views women who smoke in an unfavourable manner. South Korea has designated smoking spots in most public places.
Jennie Kim has opened her own label, which is managed by her brother. The Blackpink rapper is still doing group activities. But like Jisoo, she will do her solo work from a different agency.
