Bholaa

Bholaa

Budget - 110 crores*

Box Office Collection - 90 crores*

After the humongous wave that Pathaan had created, there was a certain buzz that Ajay Devgn, who was riding high on the mammoth success of Drishyam 2 has yet another massive juggernaut in his kitty in the form of his fourth directorial, Bholaa. The film, an official remake of Tamil film, Kaithi went on to start on a good note and it seemed the momentum will get better but the film underdelivered. What was a given but didn't happen - Bholaa did not even cross 100 crores domestically and instead ended its box office run at 90 crores*. The film was reportedly made on a budget of 110 crores* which means the film, while not a huge financial disappointment did underperform as per expectations.

Gumraah

Gumraah

Budget - 30 crores*

Box Office Collection - 4.90 crores*

It was never expected that Gumraah starring Aditya Roy Kapur and Mrunal Thakur will break box office records. The film was a mid-budgeted one from the get go and a reported budget of about 30 crores* was actually a huge positive. If the film managed rake in the numbers even at a decent pace, a break-even scenario would have been possible. Instead, Gumraah misfired and barely managed to garner 4.90 crores*.

Kuttey

Kuttey

Budget - 35 crores*

Box Office Collection - 4.05 crores*

Following a similar scenario just like Gumraah, Kuttey was also a mid-budgeted film and was the first big release of 2023. However, unlike Gumraah, Kuttey had a lot other positive aspects going on for itself where debutant director Aasmaan Bharadwaj assembled a dream ensemble which included the likes of Tabu, Konkona Sen Sharma and Naseeruddin Shah among others. Unfortunately, inspite of the film receiving critical acclaim, it flopped at the box office to surprising numbers. Said to have been made on a reported budget of 35 crores*, Kuttey barely amassed 4.05 crores*.

Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan

Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan

Budget - 150 crores*

Box Office Collection - 110 crores*

If Shah Rukh Khan could do it, why can't Salman Khan? It seemed like the box office madness that SRK created with Pathaan would translate to Salman Khan's release, Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan as well. Because similar to SRK, even Salman had his first big Eid release in almost four years and the flavor seemed to be there. But this big scale bonanza turned out to be an appalling underachiever. Reportedly made on a budget of about 150 crores*, the film just crossed the 100 crore mark and ended its domestic lifetime run at 110 crores*. By the standards of being a Salman Khan, it indeed left you wondering.

Shehzada

Shehzada

Budget - 85 crores*

Box Office Collection - 32.50 crores*

Kartik Aaryan was riding high on the massive box success of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and a great digital performance by Freddy. Even more so, the packaging, promotions and constant conversation surrounding Shehzada was huge. The remake of Allu Arjun starrer, Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo, it was hoped to be Aaryan's foray into action with aplomb. The film, however, turned out to be a hug box office disappointment. Reportedly made on a budget of about 85 crores*, Shehzada finished its lifetime run at a dismal 32.50 crores*.

Selfiee

Selfiee

Budget - 100 crores*

Box Office Collection - 16.50 crores*

The industry was sent into shockwaves and not many were able to wrap their heads around what happened with Selfiee. It wasn't surprising that it was a flop as the pre-buzz surrounding the film indicated it to be heading towards being one but the sheer rejection in terms of numbers for a film with two big stars, one of them being Akshay Kumar - was flabbergasting. For superstars like Kumar, a failure also manages to earn what a mid-ranged success does but with Selfiee, all those norms were shattered. Made on a huge budget of about 100 crores*, Selfiee only garnered an abysmal 16.50 crores* in its box office run.
