Bazaar director Sagar Sarhadi passes away

Veteran director-writer Sagar Sarhadi passed away on Monday due to age related issues. He was 88 and admitted in the ICU ward of a cardiac care hospital in Sion following a heart problem. 

Sagar Sarhadi is best known for his work in Hindi films like ‘Noorie’, ‘Bazaar’, ‘Kabhi Kabhie’, ‘Silsila’, ‘Chandni’, ‘Deewana’ and ‘Kaho Na Pyar Hai’.

His nephew filmmaker Ramesh Talwar confirmed that Sarhadi breathed his last at his residence in the neighbourhood of Sion. "He passed away shortly before midnight. He wasn't keeping well for sometime and had even stopped eating. He passed away peacefully," Talwar told PTI.

He also added that Sarhadi's last rites will be held at Sion crematorium at around 11 am.

Sarhadi began his career by writing Urdu short stories and continued as an Urdu playwright. He made his mark in Bollywood after he penned the screenplay for Yash Chopra’s 1976 “Kabhi Kabhie”, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Raakhee.

He also turned director in 1982 with "Bazaar", starring Supriya Pathak Shah, Farooq Shaikh, Smita Patil and Naseeruddin Shah.

Among other notable titles, Sarhadi penned the dialogues for Shah Rukh Khan's debut "Deewana" in 1992 and Hrithik Roshan's debut "Kaho Na Pyaar Hai".

Sarhadi is survived by his nephews and nieces.
