Baburaj Accused of Sexual Assault, Actor Denies Allegations and Claims Conspiracy

Malayalam actor-producer Baburaj is at the center of a storm following allegations of sexual assault by a junior artiste. The claims have created a significant controversy in the Malayalam film industry. The actress has accused Baburaj of assaulting her at his Aluva residence, where she was invited under the guise of discussing a potential movie role.

According to the actress, when she arrived at Baburaj’s home, she found only Baburaj and his assistant present, contradicting his earlier statement that other industry professionals would also be there. In a distressing recount, she described how Baburaj entered her room, used abusive language, and sexually assaulted her. “When I reached his home, only Baburaj and his assistant were there. He gave me a room to take rest. After a while, he knocked at the door. When I opened it, he came in, closed the door, used some abusive words, and attacked me. I didn’t complain because he’s a famous actor and I felt unsupported,” she said.

Despite her trauma, the actress did not immediately file a formal complaint, fearing retaliation in an industry she believes lacks support for survivors. She approached the then Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in Kochi, who advised her to take legal action, but she chose not to pursue it at that time.

Baburaj has vehemently denied the allegations and stated his intention to take legal action against the complainant. He has raised doubts about the credibility of the accusations, suggesting that the actress might have previously worked at his resort and that the claims are part of a scheme to tarnish his reputation. Baburaj speculated that the timing of the allegations could be connected to his candidacy for the general secretary position in the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (A.M.M.A), hinting at a possible conspiracy by rivals in the industry.

The unfolding situation continues to attract attention, with the film industry closely watching how this matter develops.
