Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, throughout his career, has crafted intriguing films that have left a lasting impact on the Indian film landscape. One of his most notable works is the 2012 two-part crime epic, "Gangs of Wasseypur," featuring powerhouse performances by Manoj Bajpayee and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
In a recent interview with The Indian Express, Kashyap delved into the challenges he faces in connecting with Indian audiences.
In an interview with The Indian Express, Kashyap was asked if he feels his films don't resonate with the audiences in India. In response, he said that Bollywood is dominated by box office and stars.

He said, "Even theater owners don’t give space (in the north). Today, people talk highly about Gangs of Wasseypur, but it was taken off cinemas in nine days because a big film like Ek Tha Tiger was coming. It wasn’t the decision of a star or a producer, it was the decision of the theatres. If that film had done a business of Rs 26 cr in nine days, it would have done more if it got space."
Kashyap also highlighted the scarcity of cinema halls in India as a fundamental issue contributing to such situations. "Gangs of Wasseypur" was initially released in two parts on June 22 and August 8, 2012, while "Ek Tha Tiger" hit theaters on August 15.
On the professional front, Kashyap is set to appear alongside Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the crime thriller "Haddi," scheduled for release on Zee5 on September 7. Furthermore, his directorial venture, "Kennedy," premiered at this year's Cannes Film Festival, starring Rahul Bhat and Sunny Leone in prominent roles.
