Rohit Bakshi, acclaimed for his heartfelt performances in shows like Kahiin To Hoga and Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, and currently seen in Anupamaa, shares profound insights on the evolving dynamics of family relationships in the modern world. In a candid discussion, Rohit emphasizes the irreplaceable value of parents.

His commitment to family is evident in his view that parents hold the most significant place in one's life. He shares, "I feel that parents are the most important people in your life, and I personally feel that way! Because I have always lived like that, I strongly believe they are the most important. It is a very unconditional relationship with them, and it's your duty to take care of them. Earning your own money is important, but it's also very important to stay in touch with your parents through phone calls or whatever means you can. It's sad to see that some people don't prioritize this. If someone thinks that having their parents live with them will not give them space or privacy, I find that very sad. People who think like that should really reconsider."

With today's advanced communication tools, like video calls, Bakshi believes it has never been easier to keep in touch. "Nowadays, with video calls and everything, it has become so easy. So, if you're saying that, at least make a point to call them," he urges. Despite busy lives, he emphasizes making the effort to either call, visit, or invite parents over. "This is the only time you have to spend with them, so use it wisely. No one knows what will happen in the future, so this is the right time to invest in them."

Rohit also acknowledges the changing dynamics within families, noting a positive shift in how parents interact with their children. "Regarding whether parents are trying to be more like friends: Yes, they definitely are. They recognize the communication gap between themselves and their children, so they're making extra efforts to be more approachable," he observes. This shift is evident compared to 10-15 years ago, with parents today striving to be more involved and understanding. He highlights that this effort to be more supportive and friendly helps children feel more comfortable and open with their parents, bridging the generational gap.

Everything I am is because of them. They have taught me everything. My values and behaviour are shaped by their teachings and upbringing.

Reflecting on his own upbringing, Rohit credits his parents for shaping his values and behaviour. "As for what I've learned from my relationship with my parents: Everything I am is because of them. They have taught me everything. My values and behaviour are shaped by their teachings and upbringing. They have instilled in me the importance of respect, responsibility, and love. The values they've given me have guided me throughout my life. It's entirely because of our parents that we learn how to communicate, how to feel, and how to navigate everything in life. They teach us so much, and the person I am today is a result of their blessings and love."

Anupamaa's Rohit Bakshi reflects on how, even with social media, people can be very disconnected

Recalling his own experiences before the advent of social media, he adds, "Back in the day, there was no social media, so communication was mostly through phones. I remember having to make calls late at night to arrange things, and even then, you had to manage finances carefully. Today, even with social media, people can be very disconnected." He highlights the irony of social media's impact on real-life interactions, where even family members at a dining table might be engrossed in their phones. "It's very important to communicate with your parents and understand their feelings. Social media has certainly impacted communication, and while it has its benefits, it has also created some disconnection."

Rohit also offers advice for the younger generation, "Parents sacrifice so much for their children, and now that you are grown up, it becomes your duty to take care of them as they age. Family is the most important thing and needs love and communication." He expresses concern over the communication gap exacerbated by social media and changing times. "The current generation, I feel, has a significant communication gap. With the rise of social media and changing times, there is a disconnect between generations. It's crucial to bridge this gap and cherish the relationships we have," he concludes.
