After Kiara’s Confession over ‘Uncomfortable Scenes’ in Kabir Singh Backfired at her, Actress offers Clarification

It’s been six months since Shahid Kapoor-Kiara Advani starrer Kabir Singh released, but the film is still making headlines, owing to the colossal controversy alleging the film to be a misogynist in nature. 

Despite the debate over the toxic masculinity showcased in the film, Kabir Singh crossed Rs 300 crores on the box office and became one of the highest grosser releases of the year. Amidst the ongoing tiff revolving around the film, came a statement from the film’s leading lady, Kiara Advani, that grabbed a number of eyeballs.

In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, Kiara who plays Preeti in the film confessed that certain scenes in the film made her uncomfortable. She also added that as an actor she has to believe in the character and it was a fictional story, however, her statement had created a storm online.

To clarify the dispute around her recent statement, Kiara in a recent media interaction offered an explanation behind her words and stated, “What I said was that there were certain scenes that were meant to make you uncomfortable and the scene interval scene which impacted a lot of people and many women stood against it that how dare he slapped her.”

She adds, “Yes we wanted you to ask the question and the vision of the director was to make you feel uncomfortable and see the character's downfall because he(Kabir) has wronged her (Preeti) and he has done something which is not right. We all know it was not right but as a character, it was meant to make you uncomfortable, similarly, it made me feel uncomfortable if I as an audience have to watch it.”

Kiara, who was on a promotional spree for her upcoming film Good Newwz clarified the air saying, “The director has delivered what he wanted through the scene and I believe that as an actor and as a person, I always have two different views. I can never put my personal thoughts into the character's thoughts. I may not believe in certain things on a personal level.”

“I never looked at Kabir as a hero, I looked at him as a flawed character,” the actress concluded.

Well, this may now put a rest to all the bickering around Kiara’s statement over her film Kabir Singh.
