Once again, Bollywood shines on the world platform! The Indian version of John le Carré's renowned book, The Night Manager, featuring Aditya Roy Kapur, Anil Kapoor, and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, has clinched a nomination at the International Emmys 2024 in the Best Drama Series group. This recognition stands as a remarkable accomplishment for India, being the only Indian contender in this year's contest.
The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences revealed the nominations, with International Academy President & CEO Bruce L. Paisner sharing his appreciation for the nominated shows and their talent to cross cultural borders. He highlighted the universal allure of outstanding storytelling, irrespective of its source.
Adding to the buzz, Indian stand-up comic and actor Vir Das is set to host the 2024 International Emmys. Das, known for his Emmy-nominated and winning Netflix specials, shared his excitement and gratitude for this esteemed role. His hosting stint signifies a groundbreaking moment for Indian presence at the event.
Crafted from John le Carré's timeless novel, The Night Manager weaves a narrative of espionage and suspense. The Indian rendition, brought to life by The Ink Factory and Banijay Asia, unfolds the journey of an ex-soldier now working as a night manager in a lavish hotel. Enlisted by a government intelligence unit, he delves into the inner sanctum of a formidable arms merchant, setting off on a perilous quest fraught with tension and risk.
Directed by Sandeep Modi, the series boasts a stellar cast, including Anil Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sobhita Dhulipala, Tillotama Shome, Saswata Chatterjee, and Ravi Behl. The show premiered on the OTT platform Disney+ Hotstar.
In the Indian version, Aditya Roy Kapur portrays Shaan Sengupta, a night manager at a Dhaka hotel who becomes entangled in the world of international arms dealer Shailendra, played by Anil Kapoor. A chance encounter with a brutal crime sets off a chain of events that thrusts Shaan into a perilous game of cat and mouse.
