Abrar Qazi, the recent addition to Zee TV's Kumkum Bhagya following a generation leap, has been captivating audiences with his performance. In an exclusive interview with India Forums, the actor shared insights about joining the show and his role.
Congratulations on joining Kumkum Bhagya, Abrar. After a successful run in Yeh Hai Chahatein, you are now part of another hit show. In both instances, you have already established on-screen chemistry, whether with Sargun, Mugdha, or Krishna. Do you find it challenging to create new chemistry and portray a new character?
I don't think it's challenging, but there is a sense of responsibility and a bit of pressure. Entering a successful show with an existing fan base creates thoughts like, "What if people don't accept us? What if we don't receive the same love as the actors before us?" However, the positive reaction from Kumkum Bhagya fans has been motivating. They have welcomed us, and while there is some negativity, the positivity has been more dominant. This encourages us, and I am eager to work harder and give my best.
When offered this role, what motivated you to take it up?
After my previous show, I initially wanted a break as I had been committed to it for a long time. Although I received offers post the show's conclusion, I was not keen on taking up something immediately. After some time, I felt ready to get back to work post a vacation. When Balaji called, I was happy because I had worked with them before. Balaji is renowned as the biggest production house in television, and I felt honored that they chose me for their show. That's why I decided to take it up.
From the promos, your character appears to have shades of grey. Will the audience see you in a negative or grey character this time?
I wouldn't label the character as grey; I'd call it multi-layered. He is not inherently bad, but certain reasons lead him to behave in a particular way, especially with the girl in the story. There is a connection with her and his past that explains his actions, including agreeing to marry her. All the answers will unfold as the audience watches the show.

The audience can anticipate a character with many layers and shades. Some may find it confusing and intriguing, wondering why he acts the way he does. However, as they get answers, they will be entertained and say, "Oh, that makes sense." The story is incredible, and I'm excited to shoot these scenes.
Lastly, have you met Krishna and Mugdha? Did you receive any insights from them about the show?
Unfortunately, I couldn't meet them properly. I briefly exchanged greetings with Mugdha during the promo shoot, but everything was quite hectic. They shot their part and left, so we couldn't talk much. I look forward to meeting and bonding with them. Krishna and I share a Kashmiri connection, and although we met and shot together in Goa previously, we didn't have extensive conversations. Nevertheless, we are always going to have that 'Kashmiri connection.'
