After seven seasons, Koffee With Karan continues to have a legacy of its own, one can vouch for. The talk show with director and producer Karan Johar at the helm has now managed to produce steaming hot cups of coffee with a barrage of controversies, some manifestations and a lot more drama over the past 18 years now.

And while majority of the episodes have been entertaining but there were instances where the odd pairing of celebrities worked out amazingly and some instances, where it was a big miss.

This listicle is curated to note down the few instances when the odd pairing of celebrities was a miss and didn't make for entertaining viewing.

Note: This isn't about ranking down the most underwhelming episodes of all time as there are such ones with even good pairings.

Ekta Kapoor and Sunita Menon

One of the first odd pairings dates to the episode that had Ekta Kapoor, astrologer Sunita Menon and then designer Manish Malhotra as a special guest. It wasn't that the chemistry between Kapoor, Menon and Johar was a miss but it was just the content of the episode. It just ended up being Menon talking about unnamed celebrities coming in and asking ridiculous questions while Kapoor and Johar talked about their inclinations towards astrology.

Sushmita Sen and Sanjay Dutt

Sushmita Sen and Sanjay Dutt had actually not worked together before appearing on the episode and while the former couldn't stop raving about the latter and his gentlemanly gestures, the episode was a snooze-fest. It was Sen, who was trying her best to keep things entertaining but Dutt seemed entirely out of place and was almost awkward the entire time.

Priyanka Chopra and Arjun Rampal

While models earlier and even having done a film together, the pairing of Priyanka Chopra and Arjun Rampal seemed an odd one on paper and, unfortunately, the same was evident on-screen. Both of them did have some fun banter here and there but there was a sense of restraint constantly and that made for some underwhelming moments.

Shahid Kapoor and Esha Deol

Probably one of the most jading episodes of all time and it does seem that Season 1 was all about trial and error. The pairing of Esha Deol and Shahid Kapoor seemed odd from the get go and considering they had almost no contact with each other before the episode, let alone friendship - it made for one of the most boring episodes of all time. It didn't help that Kapoor, unlike now being the open and fun guy he has been in every season of the show; was extremely reserved in that appearance of Season 1 and Deol was pretty much the same just answering questions and not much.

Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Kangana Ranaut

Before Kangana Ranaut became THAT person and lambasted on Karan Johar way ahead in Season 5 in her appearance with Saif Ali Khan and Shahid Kapoor, it was her appearance on the same talk show in Season 3 that was Ranaut being extremely un-Ranaut like. Still in the early days of her career, she actually only made a guest appearance in this episode which was otherwise quite entertaining with Anil Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt. But Ranaut was just a guest having starred with them in the film, No Problem at that time. She was awkward, mellow and it is impossible to believe that is the same Kangana Ranaut we know today.

Madhuri Dixit and Sonakshi Sinha

Finally, the last odd pair that somehow made no sense was that of Madhuri Dixit Nene and Sonakshi Sinha. Dixit Nene was making her second appearance on the talk show but one after a long break of her returning to films and so on. Her individual segments with Johar were actually a lot of fun but after Sinha came in, there was that obvious divide between two generations of actors you witness. Sinha was riding high on the success of her debut film and while she was all praises for Dixit Nene, the overall vibe of the episode was vanilla and that is not what you tune into Koffee With Karan for.
