Bollywood is the dream of millions around the country. Who doesn't want to be a part of this star studded world? Who doesn't want to taste the fame and sensation that drives the nation crazy? While the dream of entering Bollywood is shared by many, only a lucky few get to enter this world every year. Surprisingly, entering is not even the hard part, the real task is to prove one's worth from the first movie itself. 2014 is the year many known and unknown faces marked their entry to B-town. BollyCurry takes a look at some of the most talked debuts of the year.
Even before he entered Bollywood, this Pakistani superstar had a loyal fan following of millions. His popularity only increased when he played the role of Prince Vikram Singh Rathore opposite Bollywood diva Sonam Kapoor, in the movie Khoobsurat. While the movie failed to make much of a mark at the box office, Fawad was unanimously praised as being the best thing about the movie. His screen presence and off screen humble charm has made him the new sensation of Bollywood.
Son of Jaggu Dada aka Jackie Shroff, Tiger Shroff had a much enviable debut in the remake of a Telugu superhit, Heropanti. The movie was an out and out masala commercial movie and it proved to be a box office success. Tiger was praised in a positive light by a majority of the critics. While he wasn't exactly crowned as the actor to look out for, his amazing dancing skills and perfection in doing stunts worked much in his favor. Adding this to the box office success of his movie, Tiger sure is on the way to make his mark in the industry.
The former model and assistant choreographer made headlines when she got paired up opposite none other than Salman Khan in the movie Jai Ho. The movie brought in decent business but compared to the expectations that were riding on the movie, it wasn't worth talking about much. Daisy did manage to charm fans with her bubbly attitude, but the critics were not too fond of her and slammed her down for having just a flower pot role in the movie which was out and out a Salman Khan show.
Barun Sobti is already a household name after his much acclaimed stint as Arnav Singh Raizada in the television show, Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon. His debut movie Main Aur Mr. Riight, which kept getting postponed, was much anticipated by his huge fan following. The movie finally released this year although it tanked at the box office as it failed to impress the general audience and critics alike. Barun, on the other hand, was praised in most of the reviews as being the only redeemable thing in the movie.
Armaan Jain's debut in Bollywood was much hyped because of his relationship with the Kapoor Khandaan, him being the grandson of legendary Raj Kapoor. The whole film industry lent him its enthusiastic support at the premiere of his movie Lekar Hum Deewana Dil. Unfortunately, the audience was not that kind and the movie sank at the box office without a trace. Armaan too, received mostly negative criticism for his work in the movie.
The gorgeous former model, Kriti Sanon made her debut opposite Tiger Shroff in the hit movie Heropanti. The film, which was a commercial success, opened up many doors of opportunities for her. She was praised by the critics for her fresh performance and strong screen presence. Kriti already has many movies opposite some A-list actors in her kitty.
Surveen Chawla, who is a well-known face in the Punjabi movie industry made her Bollywood debut with the movie Hate Story 2. The movie which is a revenge saga promised her a powerful role. But alas, the role lost its steam in its journey from pen to silver screen. Not even the steamy songs of the movie could help it and the movie didn't impress anyone at the box office counter. Surveen however, managed to receive praises for her performance in it.
Each year many newcomers join Bollywood but only a few get a
chance to stay in the limelight for long. These were a few of the debutantes
of 2014, a year which was not generally too kind to debuts. We at BollyCurry
hope that the next year brings us more deserving fresh faces in Bollywood
who can really entertain us. Till then, don't forget to tell us who your favorite debut of the
year 2014 was.
