Vidya Sinha aka Dadi of Zaara: Pyaar Ki Saugat proved her professionalism recently when she insisted on canning a crucial scene despite hearing news of her mother being seriously ill. Unfortunately, her mother passed away by the time Vidya reached her side. Producer, Binaifer Kohli says, "It was a crucial scene for the plot. At around one am, Vidyaji got a call from the hospital with news that her mother was serious. But she did not tell anyone and continued shooting. Half an hour later, she heard the devastating news that her mother had passed away. Yet, she finished shooting. The only visible effect the shock had on her was that she went blank after a few moments. When the director asked her if something was wrong, she told him what happened. The whole unit sent her home immediately.
"The next day, after her mother's body was taken away, she continued with the shoot. Even on the fourth day (the chautha and terawah), she reported on the sets. Vidya is playing a pivotal role, and she knew how important she is to the script. She belongs to the old school of thought, where professionalism matters most. Hats off to her for showing such remarkable strength at a time like this," Binaifer says.
When contacted, the actress in question appeared to be in a state of shock. "Actually, it was a huge set for that crucial scene and a lot of money was spent on it. So, it was very important to complete the shoot before morning. When I got a call telling me that my mother was critical, I thought I'd complete the shoot and then leave to see her. But, to my dismay, after half an hour she expired. I did not share this with my crew members, because it would have disrupted the entire shooting. But, I could not bear it for long and went blank," recalls Vidya.
"I skipped all the important ceremonies and made my daughter attend them on my behalf as I was busy shooting. My mother was in ICU, but I did not know it would happen so soon. She was old, but I miss her every moment," Vidya adds. |
