Then my dad showed her a picture of my Dadi and her sister, all covered up in a ghunghat, with their nose rings...

But right now, it is a very bad stereotype in India too. I have been spared of unwelcoming hostile stares these days only because of masks.
My uncle did throw a tantrum when he first saw me with the ring. 🤣
