'Some incidents are so real that I have seen them happening in my house'
Actor Amit Jain talks to BT about his hiatus and why he relates to his role in his new show
GITA HARI
After a serial goes off air, most stars do the disappearing act too. And the normal explanation is, 'I didn't get an equally important role and will not settle for anything less.' And not all can be lucky to live up to their claims like Amit Jain, who essayed the role of Ronit Gujral in Yeh Meri Life Hai and has now bagged one of the main characters in Shobana Desai's forthcoming serial
Thodi Khushi Thode Gham (TKTG).
In his second TV serial, Amit essays a totally contrasting role to his earlier persona as Ronit, who was a super rich, cool dude guy. Amit's present portrayal of Pranav Shah in TKTG, who comes from a traditionbound joint family and has his values and morals intact and is a sober and levelheaded person.
How does Amit relate to this character? He says earnestly, "It's about a Jain joint family with four brothers and I am one of them. I can very much relate to it since I am a Jain myself and come from a joint family too. Some incidents are so real that I have seen them happening in my house." What Amit likes about his role is that, "though Pranav comes from a rich business family, is an MBA from Harvard, he still retains the simplicity and upholds family values." What Amit finds most appealing is his comfort level with the channel and his co-stars with whom he has gelled rather well. He happens to get along well with his co-star Deepa Parab, as he feels, "It's important that you are at ease with your co-star," as there is a lot of romance to look forward to in the serial. Amit also finds theatre and film personality Harish Patel, who plays his uncle in the serial, very helpful and jovial.
Ask him what took him so long after the completion of his earlier serial, he reveals, "In fact, the creative head Gursheel Walia considered me for this role and I was signed for TKTG immediately after YMLH, but the shoot got postponed. In the meanwhile, I joined dancing and acting classes and learnt a lot from them."
So, for all those who missed the good-looking cool dude Amit Jain, the wait is over for he's back in a different avatar!
