In STAR One's prime time show Yeh Ishq Haaye, while Ranbir aka Anand Suryavanshi owns a radio station, he has two hot RJs Mallika aka Soni Singh and Anuska aka Neha Desai. We talk to the trio to find out what it takes to be a radio jockey and why is it such a cool profession. Read on.

Why is being a Radio jockey [RJ] cool?

Mallika: One can convey their dil ki baat on Radio. Being on radio as a jockey is being stylish, I feel. Your attitude should reflect in your conversation, as people can't see but just hear you. So, you have to come across well.

Anushka: It is cool because you can talk non-stop, and no one will ask you to stop. You can speak your heart out. You get to play the agony aunt and dole out advice. You also play super duper songs and be cool.

Ranbir: Music connects with the youth like nothing else. Being a radio jockey is a cool profession for youngsters who can talk music, news and fun stuff. You can captivate your audience with your conversation. Being interactive and creating an engaging atmosphere is cool.

What is the requirement for an RJ?

Mallika: Presence of mind, easy charm, and a cool voice are the major requirements of being an RJ.

Anushka: A good expressive voice, the ability to talk well and not just nonsense, and understanding people, as they aren't in front of you, so when you deal with them or their problems, you have to be sensitive. A good RJ should be intelligent, informed about what's happening in the news, and be a fun person.

Ranbir: An RJ should have good communication skills, be a good orator, an extrovert, someone who likes people, have a good IQ, someone who is aware of the happenings in the world so that he can talk about it. An RJ should be updated about events in the city and world and have a great taste in music.

What advice would you give to aspiring RJs?

Mallika: Be updated on present events and news, have a cool lingo, be a quick thinker, have a rocking style, sense of humour and ability to connect with people.

Anushka: I can't give any advice other than be yourself and talk your heart out.

Ranbir: I am no one to give advice as I am not an RJ. Yet my advice is: Follow all the requirements I listed and things should work out.

Who are your favourite RJs?

Mallika: Anushka. She is stylish and cool and I like her, more so because my boyfriend thinks of her as a sister. [laughs]

Anushka: Mallika, as it is fun to listen to her. She has cool things to say. When I tune in to her show, I don't need anyone in my car. I can listen to her for hours.

Ranbir: I love listening to Tarana, as she is a friend.

Which are your favourite shows on the radio?

Mallika: Any show that plays my favourite song becomes a favourite show. I am not particular about any one show. Radio for me is about songs.

Anushka: I enjoy Suresh Menon's shows, as he is very funny.

Ranbir: None, as I hardly listen to the radio.

Which celebrity would you like to interview or feature in your show?

Mallika: I would love to have Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai on my show. I would then interview them regarding all the controversies and rumours around them. I would love to know all their secrets. [Smiles]

Anushka: Shah Rukh Khan. I would ask him if I can marry him [laughs]. I met him once and didn't get the opportunity to talk to him. He is super cool.

Ranbir: I would love to have the entire cricket team on my show. Interviewing Dhoni, Sachin and others would be interesting and so much fun.
