FATE TWISTED BY LOVE
CHAPTER 15
Naina kept tossing & turning on the couch, sleep far away from her eyes. She didn't know what she would do ahead, how will she earn & save money for the next few months till the café was renovated. How would she manage her own expenses till then??? She cursed those terrorists some more who destroyed her best friend's café & so many lives for their benefits, which somewhere halted her earnings too.
She was awake the whole night planning what to do next. She knew it wasn't going to be easy to get a job immediately. She closed her eyes way past midnight & got up early before the alarm could go off. She was getting ready for the day when the alarm buzzed. Sameer murmured something in his sleep & rolled over to turn it off.
Naina saw him turning the alarm off & he opened his eyes slowly to see her combing her hair in front of the mirror. He kept looking at her till she neatly tied her hair in a bun. When she turned to leave, she saw him still laying on the bed. She took few steps ahead towards him, "Aap uth jaaiye warna office jaane ke liye der ho jaayegi."
Without waiting for his reply, she walked out of the room. Sameer still stayed on his bed thinking about last night. He had seen her continuously tossing & turning on the couch. He wanted to go to her & console her. He knew that she was feeling low after whatever happened yesterday.
His mind drifted to Nanu's words. He had heard his each & every word loud & clear. First Munna & Pandit & now even Nanu was siding with her. He understood them & knew that whatever they said was right. His mind & heart both were in a tiff. His mind warned him to stay away from her & not trust her, but his heart wanted to believe that she was exactly what his Nanu & friends had been telling him.
He closed his eyes allowing his heart to take over for the first time, "Jab bhi Naina ki aankhon mein dekhta hun, mujhe uska bholapan, saadgi aur uski maasoomiyat dikhti hai. Pataa nahi kyun dheere dheere har pal mere khayaalon mein wohi rehne lagi hai. Maine jab usse Preeti se baat karte hue suna tab mera dil bhi uska dard mehsoos kar raha tha. Mujhe yeh toh pataa tha ki Naina ke Nanaji iss duniya mein nahi hai, par maine uske parents ke baare mein kabhi jaanne ki koshish hi nahi ki. Kitni mushkil hui hogi na usse???"
"Hamara dard same hi hai. Mere papa ne mujhe aur maa ko ghar se nikaal diya kisi aur aurat ke liye aur meri maa ne kuch dino baad khudkhushi kar li. Mera bachpan maine Nanu aur Munna-Pandit ke saath bitaaya, jahaan meri maa mujhe chod kar chali gayi aur papa toh hokar bhi na hone ke barabar hai. Waise hi Naina ne bhi apna bachpan uske Nanaji ke saath bitaaya, bina uske parents ke. Jo bhi wohh Preeti se keh rahi thi, uski har ek baat mere dil par kaante ki tarah chub rahi thi."
"Kitni akeli ho gayi hogi Naina jab uske Nanaji bhi usse hamesha ke liye chodkar chale gaye? Accha hua mere Nanu usse yahaan le aaye, warna wohh kahaan jaati, kahaan rehti? Kya maine Naina ko galat samjha? Uss din bhi Nanu ne mujhe wohh property ke papers dikhaaye jis par Naina ne sign nahi kiye aur usse accept karne se manaa kar diya. Naina ne yeh tohh saabit kar diya ki usne mere saath paison ke liye shaadi nahi ki hai warna wohh Preeti ke café mein job karti hi kyun???"
"Nanu sahi keh rahe the ki mujhe ek baar Naina ko chance dena chahiye, uss par vishwas karna chahiye, par pataa nahi kyun mera dimaag yeh sab maanne ko taiyaar nahi hai. Mera dil har ek baat maanna chahta hai par mera dimaag usse maanne nahi de raha. Jo mere papa ne hamare saath kiya, kahin Naina bhi mere saath wohi kare toh? Usne kisi aur ke liye mujhe chod diya toh? Main yeh kabhi bardaasht nahi kar paaunga. Isiliye shaayad main ab bhi Naina par poori tarah trust nahi kar paa raha."
"Main kya karun, kuch samaj nahi aa raha? Mera dil aur dimaag dono alag alag disha mein soch rahe hai. Kyun jab bhi Naina ko rote hue dekhta hun toh mujhe taklif hoti hai? Kyun uske aansoon dekhte hi meri aankhen bhi bhar aati hai? Kyun uski taklif mein main uske saath rehna chahta hun? Kyun jab bhi koi usse galat nazar se dekhta hai toh mujhe gusaa aa jaata hai? Kyun uska Kabir se baat karna mujhe accha nahi lagta hai? Kyun? Kyun? Kyun???"
The clock chimed breaking his thoughts. With confusion still lingering on his mind, he got up to get ready for the day. When he came out from the washroom, he saw that Naina had kept his clothes on the bed along with his watch, wallet & handkerchief. His lips curled upwards seeing that his beautiful wife was already following her duties rightfully.
When he came downstairs, Nanu was already seated in the living room while Naina was making breakfast. "Good morning Nanu...", he greeted loudly, hinting her that he has arrived & she started making his coffee, understanding his motive. "Good morning Sameer..." He sat down at the dining table along with Nanu while Ramdhari brought the breakfast of hot poha for them.
After five minutes, Naina came out of the kitchen carrying a tray of three cups of tea & coffee. Once she was seated next to Sameer, Nanu asked, "Naina... Aaj college band hai, maine abhi thodi der pehle tv par dekha tha. Aaj jyadatar schools, colleges aur offices band hi rahenge."
"Thik hai Nanaji...", her low voice wasn't lost on Sameer. He looked at Nanu, "Sameer... Aaj tum Kabir ke saath café dekhne jaanewaale ho na???" "Jii Nanu... Kabir Preeti ke saath abhi thodi der mein aata hi hoga, fir hum yahin se saath jaayenge." He turned to her, "Naina... tum bhi saath aa rahi ho naa?", Sameer asked even though he was aware of her reply. "Jii... Main bhi aaungi, Preeti ka saath dene ke liye."
They were just done with their meal, when Kabir & Preeti arrived. Naina went back to the kitchen & was back with two plates of poha & two cups of coffees. They couldn't deny when Nanu insisted, "Hum jaante hai tum dono ne kuch thik se khaaya nahi hoga. Toh chalo, jaldi se naashta khatam karo."
Once they were done, everyone except Nanu left towards the café. When they parked their cars on the opposite road of the café, Preeti & Naina couldn't move. They couldn't even look at the café. Sameer tapped on Naina's shoulder lightly, "Naina... Chalo... Dekho... wahaan Preeti bhi car se baahar nahi aa rahi. Tumhe hi usse sambhaalna hai. Chalo..."
On hearing Preeti's name, she came out & walked to Preeti's side where Kabir was waiting for her to come out. When Kabir saw Naina coming towards his sister, he moved away giving her space. Naina opened the door, "Preeti... Chalo... Baahar aao, tum abhi yahaan tak aakar peeche nahi hatt sakti. Dekho hum andar jaayenge tabhi toh renovations shuru karwa sakenge na? Tumhe apne papa ka sapna poora karna hai na???"
Preeti finally came out of the car & then walked towards the café. They saw some police constables standing outside the café. Kabir had a word with them & held Preeti's hand. They walked ahead while Naina & Sameer followed behind them. Naina's eyes misted instantly seeing the condition of the café. The front doors & windows were totally broken. The cream-colored walls had turned black. The chairs & tables, everything was destroyed.
Preeti cried seeing the condition of her father's dream café while Kabir side hugged her & kept consoling. Naina too shed tears watching the drastic condition of the café. Sameer was standing right behind her watching the devasted café. When he saw his wife crying, he too took her in a side hug while she fully turned & hugged him tightly, totally ignoring the surroundings.
His heart pained seeing her in a vulnerable state yet again. He rubbed her back slowly & whispered, "Ssshhh... Naina... Tum please rona band karo. Dekho... Preeti bhi kitna ro rahi hai. Tumhe uska saath dena hai, uska hausla badhaana hai. Agar tum hi aise haar jaaogi toh usse kaun sambhaalega Naina."
Her teary eyes met his misty ones & she asked, "Kya aap mera saath denge Preeti ko sambhaalne mein???" He smiled, "Main hamesha tumhara har kadam mein saath dunga Naina." She smiled finally while he wiped her tears slowly. Unknown to both of them, Kabir & Preeti had seen their moment & heard everything.
Naina left him on realizing their position & turned to walk towards the siblings. She held Preeti by her shoulder, showing her support that they all were with her. Kabir & Sameer discussed something about the contractor who would start the renovation from tomorrow. Sameer & Kabir clicked few pictures & after walking through the whole café for almost half an hour, they left towards Sameer's home.
At his place, they discussed about what all was needed to be done. Even Munna & Pandit helped them by adding some suggestions here & there. It was almost lunch time, when everything was finalized. They all had their lunch together & then Kabir & Preeti left.
Munna & Pandit stayed back discussing some office related matters with Sameer while Nanu retired to his room for his afternoon nap. Naina collected all the newspapers & walked to her old room. She went through all the sections wherever she could find the appropriate jobs for her.
She marked few advertisements in the jobs column where she could apply for the job according to her qualifications & especially if it suited her part-time criteria. She had shortlisted two job advertisements, one post was for a part-time accountant & other one for a part-time data entry job.
She still searched for something else but all the other advertisements were for full time jobs. Having no other option, she called both the numbers & scheduled her interview for the next day. Due to lack of sleep last night, she dozed off instantly. All the newspapers were lying scattered all around her.
It was four in the evening when Munna & Pandit finished their discussion & they left. Sameer was badly craving for a coffee. He glanced around to check if she had come down. When he didn't find her around, he walked upstairs to his room. There was no trace of his lovely wife in his room too.
He walked to her old room to find her sleeping peacefully on the bed. He sighed in relief after watching her smile even in her sleep. He slowly walked to her & sat down near her. The serene & peaceful face of his wife calmed him down. It was after a long time that he was watching her so closely.
He wanted to touch her but he knew that his small touch will break her sleep & he didn't want that. His eyes roamed around & he saw the scattered newspapers. He picked up some of them to see that she was going through the jobs section. He finally got the paper where she had marked the job vacancies which were suitable for her.
He read it twice to confirm that if it was a safe place for her working. He looked at her face & was lost in his thoughts. Nanu's words rang in his mind again & he stared at Naina, finally deciding on what he could do ahead. He kept the newspaper back on the bed & tried to wake her up.
"Naina... Naina... Utho... dekho shaam ho gayi hai. Ab hi itna so logi toh raat ko thik se neend nahi aayegi." She steered in sleep, "Ummm... Sone dijiye na Sameer..." She held his hand & pulled it under her face. His heartbeats accelerated at her action. He tried to pull his hand slowly without disturbing her sleep but that wasn't possible as her grip on his hand was tight enough.
He kept staring at her beautiful sleepy wife, when the door opened & Nanu walked in. He halted when he saw the scene in front of him. Sameer froze & then looked at Naina. His hand was still in hers, "Wohhh... Nanu... Main na... main Naina ko dhoondhte hue yahaan aa gaya tha... aur... aur... yeh sab newspapers dekh raha tha... fir... fir Naina ko uthaane ki koshish kar raha tha... tab... tab... mera haath... haath...", he stuttered while Nanu watched his grandson in amusement.
When Nanu couldn't hold anymore, he laughed out loudly, "Arey... Itna hakla kyun raha hai??? Naina teri biwi hai, agar usne tera haath pakad bhi liya toh kya hua? Poora hakk hai uska tuhjpe, samjha???" Beads of sweat broke on Sameer's forehead while Nanu laughed again, breaking Naina's sleep.
She opened her eyes & the first person she saw was Sameer who was sitting beside her. She could see he was sweating & was nervous about something. It was Nanaji's chuckle that made her realize that she had held his hand & kept it under her face. She left it instantly & got up with a jerk.
Sameer instantly stood up & left to his room without turning back. Naina looked at Nanu, "Wohhh... wohhh pataa nahi Nanaji kab aur kaise aankh lag gayi." He smiled & sat down beside her, "Main samaj sakta hun ki tum par kya beet rahi hai. Tum kal raat acche se soyi bhi nahi hogi na, isliye tumhe neend aa gayi hogi." She nodded while Nanu looked around the room.
"Yeh poora kamra newspapers se kyun bhara hua hai???" She looked around & realized that she had left all the papers scattered & dozed off. Before she could reply, Nanu had already picked up the same paper where she had marked the job advertisements. He understood why she must be doing this but didn't comment further.
"Chalo... Jaldi fresh hokar neeche aaja, warna fir se tumhara pati tumhe dhoondte hue yahaan aa jaayega. Shaayad tumhare haath ki coffee ke liye taras gaya hai. Jaldi se banaa de, warna kahin paagal na ho jaaye." Nanu left her in the room & walked downstairs.
Sameer reached his room in a trance. He could feel her touch on his hand even now. He kissed his palm softly & then got back to his work to divert his mind from his beautiful wife. But everything turned futile as his mind drifted to all the moments, he had shared with her.
What was happening to him? Why was he thinking about her? Were Nanu's words affecting his perspective about her? Was he changing for her? Why was he affected whenever he saw her in tears? Why he wanted to console her in her vulnerable state? Why his heart pained every time he saw her tearstained face?
He closed his eyes in frustration to see her face again. Closing the laptop, he stood near the window. His mind drifted to the round circles that were made on the newspaper & he knew that she was probably looking out for a new job. But the places where those offices were situated were far away from their house & college as well.
He can't stop her from doing a job but he was worried about the distance as well as about her studies. If she got selected for any of that job, her maximum time would be wasted in travelling & then she won't get sufficient time to study. He had to do something but what? He couldn't let her studies suffer? He made a group video call with Munna & Pandit & discussed this problem. His friends heard him quietly & then told him that they would figure out something by night.
As he disconnected the call, there was a knock on the door & Naina walked in with a cup of his favorite coffee. She was about to go back when he asked, "Tum thik ho???" She met his intense gaze, "Haaa... Thik hi hun... Mujhe kya hua hai???" Naina was surprised to see him keeping away his favorite coffee aside on the side table, "Maine dekha unn newspapers ko, jispe tumne do job vacancies ko mark kiya tha."
Now she stood shocked & he continued, "Tum jaanti ho wohh dono bhi workplaces hamare ghar aur college dono se bohot durr hai. Tumhara sab se jyada time aane jaane mein hi chala jaayega, phir tum apni padhai kab karogi Naina??? Tum abhi post-graduation kar rahi ho, college se bohot saare projects, assignments milenge, wohh sab kab karogi?"
She replied in a low voice, "Main manage kar lungi." "Naina... Yeh sab kehna aasaan hai ki sab manage kar logi par baad mein tumhe hi mushkil lagega. Subah college attend karogi, fir job karogi toh apni padhai poori raat jaagkar karne ka iraada hai kya tumhara??? Isse tumhari hi tabiyat kharab hogi aur har cheez affect hogi Naina."
When she didn't reply, he continued in a soft voice making her see his perspective, "Dekho Naina... Maine pehle bhi kahaa hai aur aaj bhi keh raha hun ki mujhe tumhare job karne se koi problem nahi hai, bas jo bhi karo aisa karo jisse tumhe tumhari padhai ke saath koi compromise na karna pade."
Naina was still looking at him & didn't reply. Giving up, Sameer said in a frustrated tone, "Jo karna hai karo. Mujhe jo samjhaana tha wohh maine kar diya, aage tumhari marzi." He picked up the cup of coffee which had turned cold & drank it in a single sip. She finally found her voice, "Main... main dusri coffee banaakar laati hun."
"Rehne do, uski koi zarurat nahi hai." He stormed out from his room towards the study where Nanu was already reading a book. Nanu sensed the tensed face of his grandson & asked, "Kya hua barkhurdaar??? Gusse mein chehra itna laal kyun kar rakhha hai?"
Sameer sat down next to him & explained what all he saw in the newspaper & what he told her about it. Nanu already knew half of it but when he heard that his grandson was trying to explain to his wife about the time that would be wasted in travelling, he was stunned to silence.
Nanu hadn't thought that Sameer would care so much about her studies & her job. He had definitely seen his grandson caring for his wife, that hadn't escaped his experienced eyes. He just wanted that Sameer should see the real Naina & forget his own notions about her. He wanted him to treat Naina as his wife rightfully.
After seeing him worried for Naina, Nanu was sure that it wasn't far when Sameer would accept her as his wife. He would've to wait though, but he could definitely see some changes in his grandson now.
"Sameer... tumne kuch socha hai???", Nanu asked as he could see him lost somewhere. "Nanu... Agar main usse hamari company mein koi job offer karunga toh wohh maanegi nahi. Ummm... Aap hi kuch kar sakte hai Nanu, shaayad aapki baat maan jaaye. Munna aur Pandit bhi raat tak kuch soch kar baatayenge, tab tak aap Naina ko samjhaaiye ki wohh dono jobs uske liye aur uski padhai ke liye sahi nahi hai. Please Nanu..."
Nanu smiled & thought for a while, "Sameer... Main Naina se yeh nahi keh sakta ki wohh unn dono mein se koi job na kare, par haannn... main usse ek aisi job dila sakta hun jisse usse kahin durr kaam karne na jaana pade. Jisse uski padhai bhi affect nahi hogi aur usse jyada pressure bhi nahi hoga kaam ka."
Sameer kept staring at his Nanu. He came out of his trance when Nanu clicked his fingers in front of his eyes. "Aap... aap... Sach mein aisa kar sakte hai Nanu??? Aap Naina ko hamari company mein kaam karne ke liye manaa sakte hai kya???" Nanu chuckled, breaking his hopes, "Maine yeh nahi kahaa ki wohh hamari company mein kaam karegi Sameer."
Sameer stilled, "Fir aap kahaan job dilaoge Naina ko?" Nanu just smiled in response & got up to leave. He stopped at the door & turned to see his grandson's sad face, "Sameer... Mujhpar bharosa toh hai na? Toh bas jyada soch mat, main jo bhi karunga sab soch samajkar karunga, aakhir Naina meri bhi kuch lagti hai."
Sameer smiled finally, he walked to Nanu & hugged him tightly, "Thank you Nanu... Mujhe aap par khud se jyada bharosa hai. Aap jo bhi karenge wohh kabhi galat nahi ho sakta." Both of them went downstairs to see Naina & Ramdhari preparing dinner in the kitchen. Nanu went to the garden to water the plants while Sameer went back to his room to bring his laptop.
He sat down in the living room going through his mails & replying the important ones. His gaze kept moving towards the kitchen to see his lovely wife who was stirring something. After few minutes, he saw Ramdhari going to help Nanu in the garden & he got up. He slowly strode towards the kitchen & leaned on the doorframe to see his wife kneading the dough.
He saw that her hair bun had loosened & some tendrils disturbed her while doing her work. In frustration, she shook her head a little & her hair opened. She murmured, "Yehh baal bhi na... abhi hi khulne the. Ab dono haath mein aata lagaa hai, baal kaise bandhungi?" She huffed in anger while Sameer stood adoring his angry wife.
Naina felt someone's penetrating gaze on her & she turned suddenly to find her dashing husband leaning on the doorframe, smiling at her. She froze, "Aap... aap yahaan kya kar rahe hai???" Without answering her, he took few steps in her direction, stopping just a foot away.
Goosebumps erupted on her whole body feeling his intense gaze on her. Suddenly he remembered something & walked out instantly. Naina stood confused at what happened to him within seconds. Before she could turn & get back to her work, Sameer entered again. He again stopped a foot away from her & whispered, "Ghum jao..."
When she couldn't process his words, Sameer held her shoulders & turned her. When Naina felt his fingers in her hair, her heart almost stopped beating. Sameer slowly brought all her hair together & pressed the hairclip in her hair. He closed the distance between them & whispered, "Ab yeh baal tumhe tang nahi karenge."
He disappeared after saying that, leaving a totally shocked Naina behind. She had shivered a little when he had whispered in her ear, the butterflies danced in her belly feeling his close proximity. Her hands trembled when she went back to kneading the dough. She herself didn't know how she finished making rotis. She burnt twice but didn't care about it when her mind was distracted by her hot husband's recent behavior.
When they sat for dinner, Sameer saw her eating with her left hand. He wanted to know why was she doing that. Before he could ask, Nanu beat him to it, "Naina... Tum baayen haath se kyun khaa rahi ho?" Without meeting their gaze, she replied, "Wohhh... Tave par roti pallat-te waqt thoda jal gayi thi, isliye nahi khaa paa rahi daahine haath se."
Sameer instantly muttered, "Haath dikhao, jyada jala toh nahi naa???" When Naina didn't show him her right hand, he asked again in a stern voice, "Naina... Haath dikhao..." She slowly brought her hand in front of him & he held her wrist to see the burn mark closely on her fingers. Naina shivered again seeing her caring husband observing her wound closely that too in front of Nanu.
Nanu coughed a little, "Sameer... Jyada toh nahi jala na Naina ka haath. Tum kaho toh doctor ko bulaa lun?" Naina replied instantly, "Nahi Nanaji... itna kuch nahi hua hai, aisa toh hote rehta hai. Aap fikar mat kijiye, do teen din mein thik ho jaayega." She tried to wriggle her hand from her strong husband's hold, but was unsuccessful.
"Nanu... Mujhe nahi lagta doctor ki zarurat padegi, main baad mein davai lagaa dunga." Saying that, he left her hand & continued eating. He remembered what he had done in the kitchen an hour ago. Had he distracted her? That's why she was lost & burnt her hand? He had seen two marks on her fingers. Did that mean she was burnt twice? Did his proximity affect her that much? Controlling his smile, he finished the meal.
Once in the room, he got back to his work. After doing her usual routine, Naina entered her room to see her hot husband working on the laptop. Collecting her night wear, she went to freshen up. Once she was back, she saw Sameer was standing near the window, gazing outside.
Sameer had heard the click of the doorknob; he knew that she had come out. He turned slowly to see her already looking at him. Walking to her, he gestured towards her hand. She knew why was he doing that. "Aap... aapko yeh sab karne ki zarurat nahi hai, aap fikar mat kijiye. Main... main davaai laga lungi..."
Without answering her, he held her hand & made her sit on the couch. He applied the cream on the burnt marks. She hissed a little in pain & he brought her hand closer to his mouth, blowing air on her wounds. Naina kept looking at his face intensely.
His gaze met hers & their eyes locked on each other. The butterflies in her stomach were back while his heartbeats accelerated seeing her lost in him. He moved closer to her & whispered, "Jab dhyaan apne handsome husband ke khalaayon mein dooba ho, toh fir uss husband ko davaai toh lagaani hi padegi naa???"
Her cheeks flushed in embarrassment & she bit her lower lip. Sameer caught her action & groaned internally looking at her luscious lips. Closing his eyes to regain his control, he got up. Taking a deep breath, he said, "Maine tumhara pillow aur quilt nikaal ke rakkha hai. Jaldi so jaana, kal college bhi jaana hai na???"
Without turning to her, he walked back to his bed & laid down. Switching the lights off, he closed eyes & mentally smacked himself for his behavior. What had gotten into him since evening? Why was he behaving like her loving husband suddenly?
On the other hand, Naina had turned immobile for a few minutes. His close proximity, his caring nature, his teasing, everything about him was affecting her too much. From the last few days, she had hugged him in her vulnerable state.
Why was she seeking the solace in his arms every time he was near her? Why couldn't she stay away from him? And why was he suddenly behaving so nicely with her? He had been close to her all the times whenever she was in need. She was getting used to his warmth now. She had to stop this. She can't get habituated to him & his presence.
She mentally reprimanded herself, "Naina... Tu Sameer ke paas nahi jaa sakti, har mushkil mein hamesha tera saath thodi honge wohh... Tu bhi naa paagal hai, Sameer kareeb aate hai aur tu sab kuch bhool jaati hai. Naina... yaad rakh... tu iss ghar mein sirf ek saal ke liye hai, toh Sameer se koi ummeed mat rakh. Unhone hi tujhse divorce papers sign karvaaye hai, ek saal baad na yeh shaadi rahegi aur naa yeh rishta. Khud ke dil par kaboo rakhna hoga ab se, main ab kisi bhi haalat mein Sameer ko mere kareeb nahi aane de sakti, unhe mere dil mein jagah nahi de sakti main."
With her left hand, she placed her pillow properly & pulled her quilt over her. When she closed her eyes, she remembered what he had had done in the kitchen. She looked at the clip that she had removed before sleeping on the couch & kept below her pillow. She removed it slowly & kissed it softly.
Unknown to her, her dashing husband had seen her doing that...

CHAPTER 16
That night one person slept with a smile on his face whereas the other one had made a strong resolve of staying away. When Sameer woke up the next morning, Naina wasn't in the room. He looked at the clock & it was already seven in the morning. He rubbed his eyes to check if he had seen the wrong time in his sleep, but to his dismay, it was really seven a.m.
He cursed under his breath as he remembered that he had forgotten to set the alarm at night. He rushed to the washroom & was ready in a super jet speed. When he came out after his bath, he saw that Naina had as usual taken out his clothes for the day. He looked at the suit & all the other things kept next to it.
When did she come in the room to arrange all this? He hadn't heard any sound. He looked around to see that his bed too was neatly arranged. He was now beyond frustrated. He got ready fast & left downstairs to see Nanu already sitting at the dining table waiting for him.
"Kya baat hai barkhurdaar? Aaj late kaise ho gaye? Kisike sapne dekh rahe the ki aankh hi nahi khuli?", Nanu teased a little which doubled his frustration, but he remained quiet. Nanu could see through his expressions that he was pissed. But why, was the main question.
Nanu glanced at the girl who was making his grandson's favorite coffee. When the aroma of his favorite coffee hit Sameer's nostrils, some of his anger subsided. Ramdhari walked out to serve them the breakfast of upma. Naina as usual followed him out carrying a tray with two cups of tea & one of coffee.
Ramdhari placed the cups on the table while Naina sat down next to Sameer. He quietly finished his breakfast without uttering a word. Naina stole few glances of the angry Sameer Maheshwari. Nanu too remained silent throughout sensing some tension between the couple.
When it was time to leave, Naina went to their room to collect her bag & Sameer followed her. Nanu looked at his angry grandson & prayed to God, "Hey bhagwaan... kal raat tak toh sab thik tha, ek raat mein aisa kya ho gaya ki mera naati itna badal gaya? Itne gusse mein upar gaya hai, pataa nahi kya karega? Naina ki raksha karna bhagwaan..."
The moment Naina picked up her bag, she heard the door slammed shut behind her. She knew he would come behind her, she had expected it. She waited for some time, but nothing happened. The room was silent. She didn't want to get late for the college so she turned & stood rooted to her place seeing her husband leaning on the closed door, staring at her.
He held her stare for some more time. When she didn't say anything or try to move, he took deliberate steps towards her. He stood in front of her & she looked on, waiting for his outburst. She knew why he was pissed. She knew what was to come ahead & was already prepared to face the storm.
"Tumne mujhe subah kyun nahi jagaaya Naina???" His cold voice made her shiver but she stood strong. She took a step ahead & met his gaze, "Maine aapko do baar hi aawaaz laagayi thi, par aap uthe hi nahi. Uske baad main ready hokar neeche chali gayi." He took a step ahead & closed the distance between them.
"Tumne mujhe sirf aawaaz lagaayi? Agar main nahi uth raha tha toh peechli baar ki tarah baaju mein alarm nahi lagaa sakti thi? Pataa hai maine aaj mera workout miss kar diya. Agar tum mujhe time se uthaa deti toh mera routine miss nahi hota." She lowered her eyes, "Agli baar se yaad rakhungi. Ab chale? Mujhe college ke liye aur aapko office ke liye late ho raha hai."
Sameer didn't move & kept looking at her. He didn't like the way she was behaving with him since morning. Last night, he himself had seen her kissing that clip with which he had pinned her hair. And suddenly since morning she is behaving like a stranger. He wasn't liking this unexpected change.
"Naina... tum shaayad kuch bhool rahi ho, toh main firse tumhe yaad dila deta hun. Maine jo conditions agreement mein add ki thi uss mein saaf saaf likha tha ki tumhe mera har ek chote se chota kaam karna hoga aur main subah se dekh raha hun ki tum wohh nahi kar rahi ho. Aaj tumne mujhe time par nahi uthaaya, bhale hi tumne meri coffee banaayi thi, par usse mujhe nahi di, Ramdhari ne rakkha wohh cup mere saamne. Naina aaj main yeh aakhri baar tumse keh raha hun ki tumhe mera har kaam khud karna hoga. Samjhi tum???"
She nodded, "Main unn agreements aur wohh conditions kaise bhool sakti hun, wohi toh hamari so called shaadi ki neev hai. Mujhe bohot acche se sab yaad hai Mr Sameer Maheshwari, mujhe sab yaad hai aur aage bhi hamesha yaad rakhungi. Aap fikar mat kijiye, main aapki banaayi hui koi bhi condition nahi bhooli hun aur naa hi wohh divorce papers. Mujhe yaad hai ki mera time iss ghar mein sirf ek saal ka hai. Main aapko aage se kabhi shikaayat ka koi mauka nahi dungi Mr Maheshwari."
He could feel his heart constrict with her words. He could read the pain in her eyes when she said all that. His heart ached yet again. He just wanted to make her realize that he is her husband & she has to treat him as her priority.
When he hadn't seen her in the room first thing in the morning, his mood dampened. When he checked the time, he was angry that she didn't even wake him up on time. He didn't care about his workout or any routine, he just wanted her there in their room when he got up. But how could he tell her all this directly? Nooo... So, he used the conditions of his agreement as his weapon.
But he didn't realize that he had touched a raw nerve. He didn't expect her to talk about the agreements, especially about the divorce papers. He could see through her expressions. He could see the pain in her eyes clearly now. He cursed himself for bringing up the conditions & the agreements.
Naina held his gaze confidently & asked, "Ab chale yaa aur kuch yaad dilaana baaki hai?" Without waiting for his reply, she moved past him & went downstairs, leaving the hurt Sameer Maheshwari in their room. He somehow controlled his emotions & left. When he reached in the living room, he saw Naina already waiting for him at the entrance.
Nanu looked at both of them & bid them goodbye. Sameer drove towards her college & Naina was lost in her thoughts. "Maine aaj pehli baar Sameer se jhooth bola. Bhagwaanji mujhe maaf karna please. Aap bhi jaante hai na ki maine yeh sab kyun kiya. Sameer ki nazdeekiyon se ab darr lagne lagaa hai. Main unke saamne, mere feelings ke saamne kamzor nahi padna chaahti. Aaj subah jab maine unhe sote hue dekha toh mann hi nahi kiya unhe uthaane ka. Unke chehre par jo muskuraahat dekhi subah, uske baad main khud unn mein kho gayi thi, itna kho gayi ki mujhe khud ko time ka ehsaas nahi hua. Agar main unhe chookar uthaati toh shaayad mera dil hi mere kaaboo mein na rehta."
"Bhagwaanji mujhe mere jazbaaton se hi darr lagne lagaa hai. Mujhe Sameer ki aadat hone lagi hai, mujhe unke saath rehna accha lagne lagaa hai, jab wohh mujhe pyaar se dekhte hai toh main sab bhool jaati hun, jab main unke gale lagti hun toh apne saare gham, apne saare dard bhool jaati hun. Main Sameer se judne lagi hun, jo meri liye accha nahi hai, khaaskar tab, jab mujhe pataa hai ki unki zindagi mein mere liye koi jagah nahi hai."
A lone tear escaped her eyes & she wiped it off immediately before Sameer could notice. "Main kya karun bhagwaanji? Mujhe kuch samaj nahi aa raha. Agar main unke paas rahi toh unhe kabhi na kabhi mere feelings ke baare mein pataa chal hi jaayega. Main... main aisa nahi hone de sakti, mujhe... mujhe Sameer ke saath yeh ek saal guzaarna bohot mushkil lag raha hai ab. Mujhe Sameer se jyada khud se dar lag raha hai, kahin... kahin... main hi kuch aisa na kar dun jisse hamara yeh ek saal ki shaadiwala rishta ullaj jaaye. Bhagwaanji... please mujhe sahi raasta bataaiye."
The car stopped with a jerk at the entrance of her college & her thoughts broke. Before she could open the door, Sameer spoke, "Naina... Main do baje car bhej dunga, tumhe pick karne. Ummmm... Tumhe jahaan bhi interview ke liye jaana ho, car se hi jaana. I hope at least tum meri iss baat ka maan rakhogi."
"Thik hai...", she replied & came out of the car. Sameer too came out after seeing Kabir dropping Preeti near the entrance. The girls hugged each other & entered the college. Sameer & Kabir stood there waiting till the girls disappeared in the college building. Both the friends discussed about the café for a while & then moved in the opposite directions towards their offices.
As soon as Naina & Preeti entered the college, a girl called out, "Preeti..." She turned to find her school friend, "Arey Shreya... Tum yahaan???" They hugged each other & then Preeti made the introductions. "Shreya... yeh hai meri best friend, Naina aur Naina... yeh hai meri school friend, Shreya."
Preeti turned to her friend & asked again, "Shreya... Tum yahaan, iss college mein kya kar rahi ho?" She side hugged her & replied, "Preeti... Maine bhi iss college mein admission liya hai. Pehle din zara tabiyat thik nahi thi isliye nahi aa paayi, fir kal toh college band hi tha. Aur aaj tumhe yahaan dekhkar main bohot khush hun. Mujhe toh darr tha ki koi yahaan dost bhi banega yaa nahi, par accha hai tum hi mujhe yahaan mil gayi."
They hugged each other again & then Shreya asked, "Waise Preeti... maine abhi Kabir ko baahar dekha gate pe aur uske saath jo dusra ladka khada tha, wohh kaun hai? Bohot hi handsome tha yaar? Uski wohh udti hui zulfein, uski wohh hot si body aur..." Naina couldn't hear more & stopped her midsentence, "Hume class mein jaana chahiye ab, waise bhi late ho raha hai."
Her attempt to stop the praising for her husband didn't stop as even Preeti joined her friend. Naina cursed under her breath, "Sabko sirf Sameer hi pasand aata hai, saath mein Kabir bhi tha na? Usse dekh leit, par nahi... dekhna toh sirf Sameer ko hi hai. Main na kal se inko kehne waali hun ki mujhe college chodne hi mat aaya karo. Pataa nahi aur kitni saari ladkiyaan mere pati ko aise ghoorti hongi?"
Preeti couldn't hear what Naina was muttering under her breath but she was looking at her keenly to gauge her expressions & she had guessed it right. Naina was getting affected by their praises about Sameer. Preeti hadn't missed anything till now. She was very much sure now that Naina harbored some feelings for Sameer & it was definitely reciprocated too, as she had seen Sameer's behavior around Naina too.
The lectures finished at two & they left towards the gate to see their cars already waiting. Naina hadn't mentioned about her job interviews to Preeti as she didn't want to hurt her & also, she couldn't tell her the reason behind finding another job.
Once she was seated, she gave the address where her first interview was scheduled. The ride to the workplace was more than an hour or so. She too thought that the distance from her college was too far. But did she have a choice? She needed the job desperately.
Taking a deep breath, she entered the three floored building in front of her. She was stunned to see that there were already many candidates waiting for the part-time account's interview. She confirmed with the receptionist about her interview & was informed that her name would be announced when her turn would come up.
She sat there for more than one hour but her name wasn't announced. She waited for ten minutes more & her name was called. "Ms Naina Agarwal... You can go in." She knew which cabin she had to go for her interview & she walked in.
After fifteen minutes she walked out of that room only to be told that they would inform the results in the next few days. She looked at the watch & sighed. She had missed her second interview. With heavy steps, she left towards her car & informed the driver to take her home.
When she reached home, it was already six in the evening. She freshened up fast & searched for her diary which was kept hidden in her luggage. She softly caressed the cover & opened a fresh page. Within seconds she started writing,
Hiii diary...
Hum aaj bohot dino baad mil rahe hai, hai na?
Sorry... sorry... sorry...
Kya karun itna sab kuch ho gaya peechle kuch dino mein ki mujhe time hi nahi mila tumse baat karne ka...
Aaj na main bohot dukhi hun...
Jaanti ho kyun???
Ab toh pata nahi kitne mahine lagenge café ke renovations khatam hone mein, ab tab tak toh mujhe nayi job karni hi padegi na, warna apne kharche kaise nikaalungi, savings kaise karungi?
Mujhe waapis newspaper mein koi ads dekhne padenge.
Khair yeh sab main baad mein kar lungi.
Waise mujhe tujhse kuch personal bhi kehna tha... apne pati ke baare mein...
Kuch dinon se hum bohot kareeb aa haye hai emotionally, jisse mujhe ab darr lagne laga hai.
Jab bhi main unke gale lagi hun, mujhe sirf sukoon mila hai.
Aisa kabhi nahi hua mere saath.
Main jitna bhi unke saamne strong banti hun na, wohh sirf baahar se dikhta hai, par mere dil aur dimaag par unki nazdeekiyon ka kya asar hota hai, yeh toh sirf main hi jaanti hun.
Mujhe wohh pehli nazar mein hi pasand aa gaye the, fir shaadi ke pehle unhone mujhse sab agreements sign karvaake mera dil poori tarah tod diya.
Par fir bhi jab bhi wohh mere kareeb aate hai, mujhe apni taraf kheenchte hai, mujhe accha lagta hai.
Tumhe pataa hai unhone mujhe dresses, pens, notebooks aur ek nayi diary bhi gift ki college jaane ke ek raat pehle.
Mujhe nahi samaj aa raha ki kuch dinon se Sameer itna acche se kyun behave kar rahe hai mere saath.
Kal kitchen mein bhi unhone jo liya, uske baad main bataa nahi sakti ki kaise meri dhadkan ruk hi gayi thi.
Unka mere baalon ko yun choona, maano jaise unhone meri aatma ko hi choo liya ho.
Main jaanti hun tum mujhe paagal samaj rahi hogi, par main kya karun, mujhe khud unka bartaav samaj nahi aa raha.
Aur aaj maine unse jhooth bola ki maine unhe uthaane ki koshish ki thi aur wohh uthe nahi.
Main aaj unko dekhne mein itna kho gayi thi ki unhe uthaane ka mann hi nahi hua.
Aur aaj unhone mujhe issi baat par kitna kuch sunaaya.
Lekin accha hi hua, unhone mera bhram tod diya ki main kabhi unke kareeb unki patni ki tarah reh paaungi.
Aaj college mein meri ek nayi friend bani hai, Shreya, Preeti ki school friend hai.
Acchi hai, par mujhe aaj uss par aur Preeti par bhi gussa aa raha tha.
Wohh Sameer ki itni taarif kar rahe the ki poocho mat.
Mujhse nahi sunaa jaa raha tha wohh sab, taklif ho rahi thi mere dil mein.
Hasso mat tum... jaanti hum tum kyun hass rahi ho...
Pataa nahi aur kitni ladkiyaan unhe taadti hongi...
Tum na ab hassna band karo, warna main baat nahi karungi...
Thik hai... tum hassti raho... main jaa rahi hun...
Byeee...
On the other side, Sameer was restless the whole day. He didn't know why his loving wife was behaving so weird since morning. Munna & Pandit entered to see a pissed off Sameer Maheshwari who was shouting on his assistant for no reason. They wondered what was wrong with their friend. Without interrupting him, they came out of his cabin.
"Chenu.. Yaar isse kya hua hai? Subah subah aate hi aise hitler ki tarah daant raha hai? Bechara Aashish... Pataa nahi aaj apne boss ko kaise sambhalega?" Munna thought for a while & called up Nanu, "Hello... Nanaji... main Munna bol raha hun?" He took a pause & then asked, "Aaj ghar pe kuch hua hai kya? Subah se bechare Aashish ki band bajaa di hai Sameer ne, choti choti baaton par daant raha hai usse, bechare ki koi galti nahi hai fir bhi uski left aur right le raha hai. Nanaji... Boliye na kuch hua hai ghar pe???"
Nanu replied from the other end, "Mujhe kuch nahi pata Munna. Raat tak toh sab thik hi tha, pataa nahi subah se kis baat par itna gusse mein laal pila ho raha hai." Pandit asked, "Nanaji... Ummm... Kya Naina ke saath kuch hua hoga? Mera matlab koi nokjhok???" Nanu replied, "Mujhe bhi aisa hi kuch lag raha hai. Naina bhi subah se hi ekdum chup chaap si hai. Dekho... Sameer aur Naina dono bhi mujhe kuch nahi bataayenge. Tum dono Sameer se poochne ki koshish toh karo, shaayad tumhe bataa de."
"Thik hai Nanaji... Hum hi kuch karte hai. Chal Chenu... Ab iss jwalamukhi ko hume hi shaant karna padega." They disconnected the call & entered his cabin. Sameer was sitting on his desk, busy doing some work on his laptop. When none of them spoke, Sameer looked up & glared at them, "Tum dono ke mooh mein dahi jamm gaya hai kya? Agar koi baat nahi karni hai toh chale jao. Mujhe mere kaam mein disturb mat karo. Jao yahaan se..."
Munna & Pandit glared back & sat down across him. "Sameer... Aaj jab se aaya hai tab se bechare Aashish ki parade karaadi hai tune. Kis baat par itna gussa aa raha hai? Kya hua hai???" Pandit continued, "Bhai... Naina ke saath kuch hua hai kya??? Tune fir se kuch bol diya kya usse, yaa fir waapis koi agreement banana hai???"
Sameer got up from his chair in anger, "Haannn... haannn... Main hi bura hun na isliye maine hi kuch bol diya hoga Naina ko yaa fir main hi waapis koi agreement banvaane waala hun, kyun itna hi jaante ho tum dono mujhe? Itna gira hua dikhta hun main tum dono ko? Tum acche se sunn lo, maine kuch nahi kiya hai iss baar? Samjhe tum dono???"
"Accha... Tumne kuch nahi kiya huh??? Bol Sameer? Sach mein tune kuch nahi bola Naina ko? Hum tujhe aur ab toh Naina ko bhi acche se jaante hai. Jab tak tune kuch nahi kiya hoga na, tab tak Naina ne bhi kuch nahi kahaa hoga. Toh ab bataa... kya hua hai???", Munna also spoke in the same loud tone.
Sameer sat down again & told them whatever Nanu had told him earlier & how he was confused about all this. He skipped the part of the kitchen scene totally & told them how Naina was behaving with him since morning & their conversation in their room. Mundit heard him quietly.
Once he finished, they couldn't control their laughter & started laughing loudly which further angered their friend. "Haannn... haaannn... hass lo tum dono. Yeh nahi ki mujhe bataaye ki Naina kyun aisa behave kar rahi hai."
His best friends sobered down after few minutes to see their friend glaring at them. Pandit spoke, "Dekh raha hai Chenu... Hamara dost aaj ekdum wohh confused sa pati lag raha hai, jisse yeh nahi pataa ki uski biwi uski kis baat se naaraaz ho gayi hai."
Munna met his friend's glare & asked, "Sameer... Tujhe nahi lagta ki tune unn conditions ke baare mein aise achanak se Naina ko yaad nahi dilaana chahiye tha? Usne tujhe subah nahi uthaaya isliye tu usse yeh sab keh gaya? Socha hai Naina ko kaisa feel hua hoga? Accha... yeh bataa ki tu Naina ko apni biwi ka darja de raha hai? Usse uske biwi hone ke sabhi hakk diye hai kya tune? Toh fir tujhe bhi Naina se koi ummeed nahi rakhni chahiye?"
When Sameer didn't say anything, Pandit continued, "Munna bilkul sahi keh raha hai. Sameer... tune hi shaadi hone se phele yeh sab agreements ko beech mein laakar sab complicate kar diya hai. Bhale tune agreement mein koi bhi conditions rakkhi ho, par tujhe baar baar Naina ko uski yaad dilaane ki koi zarurat nahi hai. Wohhh bhi insaan hai yaar. Peechle kuch dinon se kya kuch nahi hua uski zindagi mein, aur fir bhi tujhe aise time par tere banaaye hue conditions yaad aa rahe hai? Sameer... zara khud ka dimaag chalaa. Khud ko uski jagah pe rakhkar dekh, Naina ko kaisa fele hota hoga, yeh tujhe samajh aa hi jaayega."
Munna was looking at his friend intently, "Sameer... Tu kya chaahta hai Naina se? Wohhh bechaari pehle se hi tooti hui hai, koi nahi hai uska aur tu usse kitna dard de raha hai, yeh tu kabhi soch bhi nahi sakega Sameer. Tune shaadi se pehle hi Naina se divorce papers sign karwa liye aur ab tu usse yeh ummeed kar raha hai ki wohh teri biwi hone ke saare farz poore kare? Kya tu uske pati hone ke saare farz poore kar raha hai? Kya tu Naina ko apni biwi maanta bhi hai?"
Sameer looked at him stunned at his question & Munna continued, "Mujhe aise mat dekh tu aur mujhe jawaab dene ki bhi koi zarurat nahi hai? Iska jawaab khud ko hi de dena, tab shaayad Naina ka dard samajh paaye tu. Chal Ponga... Sameer ko bohot kuch sochna hai ab. Usko kya chahiye hai Naina se? Khudko ek baar Naina ki jagah rakhkar sochna Sameer... Tujhe tere har sawaal ka jawaab mil jaayega."
Munna & Pandit left quietly. It was already one thirty in the afternoon & he called his driver to pick up Naina from the college & drop her wherever she wants to go. He kept thinking about what his friends had said.
Sameer got a call from the driver around four in the evening to inform him about Naina's whereabouts. Now he grew more nervous after knowing that she was indeed going through the interview. He started pacing his cabin, "Ab main kya karun? Nanu ne toh kahaa the wohh sab sambhaal lenge toh fir Naina wahaan interview dene gayi hi kyun? Lagta hai Nanu ne ab tak kuch baat nahi ki Naina se. Main aaj ghar jaate hi Nanu se waapis baat karta hun kyunki yeh ladki toh samajne se rahi."
Once the driver dropped Naina home, he again called Sameer to inform the same. He was still restless thinking about her behavior & her job interview. As the clock hit six in the evening, he left towards home. He was very much desperate to see his wife or rather wanted to know if she got that job.
On the way, he stopped at a shop for few minutes & then reached home soon. When he reached home, he saw Nanu watering the plants as usual whereas Naina wasn't visible to him in the kitchen. He kept the bags that he had brought in Nanu's room & ran upstairs to his room to find his wife.
When he entered, he saw her sitting on the couch & had winded up writing something in a diary. She looked up at him, "Aap fresh ho jaiye, tab tak main aapki coffee banaa deti hun." He just nodded in response & walked to his wardrobe to collect his clothes. "Ummm... Maine aapke kapde already washroom mein rakh diye hai.", Naina spoke & left their room with her diary.
Sameer stood shocked with her behavior yet again. Once he freshened up, he went downstairs to join Nanu, who was sipping his tea quietly. He sat beside him & asked, "Nanu... Mujhe aapse zaruri baat karni hai." "Itni kya zaruri baat hai Sameer?", he asked with a frown.
Before Sameer could say anything, Naina appeared with his coffee. He sipped it quietly, looking at her in between. She sat next to Nanu & started talking about her college & Preeti, skipping the part of Shreya altogether. Sameer couldn't wait any longer & asked, "Interview kaisa tha Naina? Tumhe koi problem toh nahi hui na wahaan pohonchne mein?"
She met his gaze, "Problem kyun hogi? Main car se hi toh gayi thi. Aur interview bhi thik hi tha." Nanu asked, "Thik hi tha matlab???" "Nanaji... wahaan pehle se hi bohot candidates the, toh mujhe nahi lagta ki mere koi chances bhi hai." Sameer asked again though he knew the answer, "Aur dusra interview???"
"Wohhh... main wahaan jaa hi nahi paayi. Pehle interview mein hi bohot late ho gaya tha." Sameer remained quiet whereas Nanu caressed her head, "Koi baat nahi Naina. Jo hota hai wohh acche ke liye hi hota hai. Shaayad tumhari kismat mein kahin aur job karna likha hai." Sameer glanced at his Nanu thinking, "Nanu ne zarur kuch soch liya hai Naina ke liye."
Naina went back to kitchen & helped Ramdhari in preparing the dinner. Nanu called out, "Naina... Zara khaana jyada banana koi ghar pe aanewala hai." She replied from kitchen, "Ji Nanaji..." "Kaun aa raha hai Nanu???" He turned to his grandson, "Wohhh waise bhi baad mein pataa chal hi jaayega. Tu bataa... Tujhe kya zaruri baat karni thi?"
Sameer glanced once at his wife & said, "Aapke kamre mein baat karen?" Nanu was surprised, yet he walked up to his room & Sameer followed him. He closed the door behind him & picked up the bags, he had brought. "Ummmm... Nanu... wohhh... main... main yeh Naina ke liye laaya tha. Kya... kya yeh aap usse de denge???"
Nanu raised his eyebrows, "Aur main kyun dun??? Tu pati hai uska, jab tu laaya hai yeh sab, toh tujhe hi dena chahiye." Sameer refused, "Nahi Nanu... Agar maine diya toh wohh nahi legi. Nanu please aap dijiye naa, main jaanta hun ki Naina aapko manaa nahi kar paayegi." Nanu looked at the contents in the bags. He exhaled, "Main yeh nahi de sakta Naina ko. Yeh tujhe hi dena padega Sameer, mujhse koi ummeed mat kar." He walked out of his room while Sameer sat there for a while. He somehow had an idea that Nanu won't help him in this.
Sameer collected the bags & left towards his room. He kept the bags in his wardrobe & came back downstairs for dinner. Nanu was sitting in the living room & Sameer joined him. After few minutes, Naina too joined them. "Aa baith... Mujhe tujhse zaruri baat karni hai." She sat down next to him & he started, "Naina... Agar tu bura na maane toh meri nazar mein ek job hai tere liye. Jiske liye tujhe kahin jaane ki zarurat bhi nahi padegi, tu yahin ghar se kaam kar sakti hai."
Naina was excited, "Arey waah Nanaji... yeh toh bohot acchi baat hai. Bataiye... kya job hai?" "Naina... Tum Munshiji ko toh jaanti hi ho naa, unse mile bhi thi na tum?" She agreed, "Haannn... Yaad hai. Main mili hun unse ek do baar." Nanu smiled & continued, "Maine tab bataaya tha na ki hum ek NGO bhi chalaate hai. Toh bas tujhe ussi NGO ke accounts ka kaam ghar baithe hi sambhaalna hai. Bas hafte mein ek yaa do baar hi tujhe NGO ke office jaana hoga, aur hamare partner ko report karna hoga."
Sameer sighed in relief when he heard the job that Nanu was offering her. She asked, "Aapka partner kaun hai Nanaji?" She looked at Sameer, assuming it to be him while Sameer looked shocked to hear that Nanu had some partner in his NGO.
Nanu smiled looking at the door & said, "Lo aa gaya mera partner..."

FATE TWISTED BY LOVE
CHAPTER 17
Sameer was in a shock while Naina couldn't believe her eyes. Nanu smiled looking at both of them & invited the person standing at the door, "Arey... Kabir... wahaan darwaaze par hi kyun ruk gaye? Andar aao... aur Preeti kahaan hai? Tum usse saath nahi laaye?" Preeti peeped in from behind her brother's back & exclaimed, "Main yahaan hun Nanaji..."
Nanu walked ahead & took her in a hug. "Kaisi hai tu?" She smiled widely, "Main toh ekdum thik hun Nanaji... Aap bataaiye, aap kaise hai?" He walked with her towards the couch where Naina & Sameer were waiting for them to join.
"Ab mujhe kya hoga? Main toh bohot mazze mein hun... Jab se Sameer ne office sambhaal liya hai aur jab se Naina iss ghar mein aayi hai, main aur bhi jyada khush hun." Preeti hugged Naina & winked at Sameer, while he looked away. Kabir side hugged Sameer & sat down beside him, giving a small smile to Naina.
"Nanaji... aapne yun achanak hume dinner ke liye kyun bula liya? Koi celebration hai kya?", Kabir asked curiously looking at Naina. Sameer fisted his hands but didn't say anything. "Haannn... Kabir... Mujhe kuch zaroori baat karni thi tumse. Maine tumse kal raat ek job ke liye baat ki thi na, yaad hai tumhe?" "Arey... haannn Nanaji... Yaad hai mujhe, kahiye kisse job chahiye hai? Aapne agar kisiko NGO ke accounts check karne ke liye choona hai toh wohh accha hi hoga."
Nanu's gaze turned to her, "Yeh job main Naina ko dena chaahta hun Kabir. Kya tumhe isse koi problem hai?" Kabir & Preeti were shocked with this question. The siblings looked at each other first & then at Naina. Kabir stuttered, "Nanaji... kya... kya aap Naina ko hamare NGO mein job dena chaahte hai? Mera matlab hai ki... ki... mujhe koi problem nahi hai. Par kya Naina apni padhai ke saath saath ye responsibility sambhaal paayegi?"
Nanu replied confidently, "Kabir... Mujhe poora yakin hai ki Naina se accha koi aur yeh kaam nahi kar sakta. Bas Naina har hafte ek ya do baar hi NGO ke office mein aayegi, jab usse koi important kaam honge. Naina jyadatar kaam ghar se hi karegi, jaise ab tak tum kar rahe the." Kabir smiled finally, "Mujhe aapke vishwas pe poora bharosa hai Nanaji aur aapne sahi kahaa, Naina se accha shaayad koi yeh sambhaal bhi nahi paayega, main bhi nahi..."
Preeti hugged Naina again, "Waahhhhh... Yeh accha hai... Isse job mil gayi, aur mera kya? Mujhe bhi kuch karna hai, par mujhe koi kuch pooch hi nahi raha?" Nanu patted her back & said, "Tumhe tumhare papa ka sapna poora karna hai. Café ke renovations pe dhyan rakho aur padhai karo. Jaise hi renovations ho jaayenge toh café mein tumhara kaam fir se shuru ho jaayega. Sir karte rehna kaam hi kaam."
She smiled, "Kya Nanaji... main toh bas mazaak kar rahi thi. Waise café ke renovations aaj se hi shuru ho gaye hai. Bas do se teen mahine mein café fir se shuru ho jaayega." "Chalo accha hai... Bhagwaan kare tumhare saare sapne poore ho Preeti aur tum bhi apne bhai ki tarah apni zindagi mein kamyaab bano."
All this while, Naina & Sameer didn't utter a word. They just nodded & smiled wherever it was needed. Nanu called out, "Ramdhari... Ramdhari... Chal... jaldi se khaana lagaa de. Bohot bhook lagi hai." While Nanu, Kabir & Preeti moved towards the dining table, the lovely couple remained seated on the couch.
Naina glanced at Sameer & said softly, "Chaliye... dinner kar lete hai." Sameer looked up at her & she could clearly see the storm that was brewing in his eyes which was definitely going to erupt soon. They both got up together & settled at the dining table as usual sitting next to each other. Now this was the first time when Kabir & Preeti saw them sitting besides each other without any awkwardness.
Nanu smiled seeing what he wanted to see. He knew that they had hidden their marriage from the outside world. He wasn't dumb that he couldn't figure out what had happened in the restaurant when they had gone for dinner. Naina had tried to stop him from speaking about their marriage twice. He had seen her fidgeting every time whenever Kabir & Preeti were around them. He knew that this job was going to be a hell of a shock for his grandson but what he hadn't expected was Naina's silence after seeing Kabir. Something was definitely up; his experienced eyes could see the anger in Sameer's eyes & the nervousness in Naina.
While having dinner, Preeti shared about their college & her school friend who had joined them today. Everyone heard her while Nanu & Sameer thought that why had Naina not mentioned about Shreya to them. Nanu asked, "Arey Naina beta tumne hume Shreya ke baare mein aaj kuch bataaya hi nahi?"
Naina started fidgeting with her spoon while Sameer caught her nervousness. What was she trying to hide??? Even Nanu could see that she had got more nervous but why. Preeti knew the reason & was waiting for her best friend to spill the beans. Kabir too seemed curious to know but was silenced with her answer.
"Wohhh... wohhh... Nanaji... mujhe yaad hi nahi raha, isliye shaayad bataana bhool gayi." Preeti giggled & caught everyone's attention. Nanu asked, "Kya hua Preeti? Tum hass kyun rahi ho?" She glanced at Naina who was sweating by now. She continued, "Kuch khaas nahi Nanaji... bas mujhe yaad aa gaya Shreya aaj kya kya bole jaa rahi thi."
Sameer wanted to know more about it but remained quiet. Nanu also didn't prod more thinking that must be some private girls talk. Once the dinner was done, Ramdhari served them kheer which was prepared by Naina. Everyone had two servings of it & relished it except the couple.
Once the dinner was done, the siblings got up to leave. They took Nanu's blessing & the friends hugged each other. Kabir waited till his sister hugged Naina & whispered something in her ear. She hugged her again & left giggling once again which was noticed by Sameer. What were the girls hiding? He wanted to know but he knew he would have to wait a little more.
When Preeti joined Kabir to leave, he turned, "Naina... Tum kal NGO ke office aa jaana, main tumhe sab sikha dunga, taaki tumhe koi problem na ho." Nanu agreed, "Kabir... Aisa karte hai, main bhi Naina ke saath aa jaata hun, waise bhi kaafi time ho gaya hai mujhe NGO aakar. Naina ko tum sab kaam samjha dena thik se, tab tak main Munshiji se thodi baatein kar lunga, unse bhi mile kaafi time ho gaya hai, zara unke bhi haalchaal pooch lun."
They agreed & the siblings bid them goodbye. Nanu retired to his room while Sameer too left upstairs. After locking the main door, Naina walked to the garden to take some fresh air. Many things had happened since few days. And today whatever happened was beyond her imagination.
Whatever Shreya had said in the morning had brought her jealousy to the forefront. She didn't want to feel this way but still she couldn't hold onto her feelings. And now, the job that Nanu offered her was her last option till Preeti's café got renovated. She had already given an interview & she already knew that she wouldn't get selected for that & the other one, she couldn't even make it on time for the interview.
Naina had no more choice left now other than accepting the job in the NGO. But she was scared... scared of her husband's reaction. She knew that Sameer didn't like her being around Kabir. She shivered remembering how he had reacted when she had served Kabir once during dinner.
She was lost in her thoughts, when she heard her name, "Naina... Yahaan kya kar rahi ho? Itni raat ho gayi hai, aur subah tumhe college bhi jaana hai na?" She turned to see Nanu standing near the entrance of the garden. She got up from the chair & walked to him, "Yahaan itni acchi hava chal rahi thi toh main bas yunhi thodi der ke liye baithna chaahti thi."
Nanu caressed her head, "Tumhe NGO mein job se koi dikkat toh nahi na beta?" She replied instantly, "Nahi Nanaji... Itne acche kaam se koi kyun nahi jhudna chahega? Mujhe koi problem nahi hai Nanaji. Infact main lucky hun ki aapne mujhe iss kaabil samjha ki main yeh kaam kar saku." He smiled, "Thik hai... Chal ab jaa apne kamre mein, thodi der aur ruki na toh mera naati tujhe dhoondte hue halla maccha dega."
They chuckled & entered the house to see Sameer descending the stairs. Nanu chuckled again, "Dekh... Kahaa tha na, tujhe dhoondte hue aa jaayega?" Sameer asked, "Nanu... Aap abhi tak soye nahi?" "Arey main sone hi gaya tha. Davaai nikaali peene ke liye toh dekha ki paani hi khatam ho gaya tha. Main bas paani hi lene kitchen jaa raha tha, tab Naina ko garden mein baithe hue dekha. Ab mein kitchen se paani leta hun aur tum Naina... Jao... so jao... bohot der bhi ho gayi hai."
"Nanaji... Aap room mein jaaiye aur main paani le aati hun, fir sone chali jaaungi." Nanu was about to oppose when Sameer agreed, "Sahi keh rahi hai Naina. Aap room mein jaaiye Nanu, paani Naina laa degi." Nanu quietly walked back to his room while Naina followed him after a few minutes with a jug of water for him, placing it on his bedside table.
Once Nanu had his medicine, Naina walked back to her room, switching off all the lights on the way. When she entered her room, she saw Sameer working on his laptop. She freshened up quickly & was about to lay down on the couch, when she heard Sameer clearing his throat. She knew he wanted to talk & she asked, "Aapko kuch kehna hai???"
He silently walked back to his wardrobe to take out the bags that he had brought for her. Naina kept looking at him till he handed over two bags to her. At first, she didn't want to take it but the look on his face made her accept that. "Isme kya hai?", she asked without checking the contents in the bag.
Sameer sat down beside her on the couch. He opened the first bag & handed over a mobile phone to her. "Naina... Main jaanta hun ki tum mujhe bologi ki tumhe iski koi zarurat nahi hai. Par bas ek baar meri poori baat sunn lo, uske baad faisla lena ki tumhe yeh rakhna chahiye ya nahi."
Naina nodded & he continued, "Naina... Mujhe lagta hai ki tumhe yeh mobile apne paas rakhna chahiye. Tum college aati jaati ho, agar tumhe kabhi ghar aane mein late hone waala ho toh tum isse Nanu ya mujhe inform kar sakti ho. Yeh mobile se tum hum sabke contact mein rahogi. Kabhi koi emergency hui toh hum sab contact mein rahenge."
He opened the other bag to reveal a brand-new laptop. She gasped & before she could say anything, Sameer kept his finger on her lips. Both of them shivered with the touch & their eyes locked. They forgot about what they were talking, they forgot their surroundings, they forgot everything. The only thing they could see was their reflection in each other's eyes.
The dogs barking on the road broke their eye lock. Sameer realized their position & moved away. Both of them couldn't look at each other for a few minutes, embarrassed of what happened a few moments ago. Sameer brought his raging heartbeats to normal & started, "Naina... yeh laptop main isliye laaya tha kyunki tumhe college se bohot saare assignments milenge, toh isse tum time par wohh poore kar paaogi."
He looked at her who was fidgeting with her dress, "Aur ab toh tumhe NGO ke bhi kaam honge, toh laptop hoga toh kaam karne mein aasaani hogi. Dekho Naina... main sach mein yeh sab tumhare liye isliye laaya hun taaki tum comfortable raho. Yeh mobile aur laptop se tumhari padhai aur job, dono manage karna easy ho jaayega. Toh please manaa mat karna. Inhe rakh lo please."
Naina had tears in her eyes when he finished & looked at her hopefully. Sameer moved instantly next to her, when he saw those tears. "Kya hua? Tum aise achanak rone kyun lagi? Meri yeh gifts acchi nahi lagi tumhe? Main toh bas yeh sab... yeh sab... tumhare liye..."
This time Naina kept her finger on his lips, shutting him down completely. Again, a shiver ran down their spines but they ignored. Naina slowly moved away her hand & met his worried eyes, "Aaj tak Nanaji ke alaawa kisine mere liye itna nahi socha tha. Sach kahun toh shaayad yeh sab Nanaji bhi nahi kar paate, jitna aaj aapne kiya hai Sameer."
Sameer closed his eyes feeling elated that at least she didn't deny it outright. But his happiness lasted only for a while, when he heard her next words, "Sameer... main itni mehengi gifts nahi le sakti. Jaanti hun, inn cheezon se mere sab kaam aasaan ho jaayenge, par main inhe nahi rakh sakti."
He whispered, "Kyun???" She continued, "Meri aukaat nahi hai itni mehengi cheeze kharidne ki, aur main aapse bhi yeh sab lekar aapki kahi hui baat sahi saabit nahi karna chaahti ki maine aapse aapke paison ke liye shaadi ki hai." Sameer understood that his accusations had hurt her deeply & he was genuinely feeling guilty for this.
"Naina... Main... wohhh..." Closing his eyes, he inhaled deeply. When he met her misty gaze, he apologized, "I'm sorry Naina... Main ab samaj gaya hun ki maine pehle jo kuch bhi kahaa, usse tumhe bohot hurt hua hai aur ab main jaanta hun ki tum bilkul waisi nahi ho jaise maine pehle tumhare baare mein raay banaayi thi. I'm sorry once again. Please Naina... meri kahi unn sab baaton ke liye waise bhi bohot guilty feel kar rahaa hun, ab uss wajah se tum iss mobile aur laptop lene se manaa mat karo."
She looked on & asked, "Kiss hakk se rakh lun Sameer. Kal uthkar aap yeh naa kaho ki maine aapse shaadi issi aisho aaram ke liye ki hai." He couldn't meet her gaze. Had he hurt her so much that she wasn't even ready to accept his gifts?
Naina's heart ached too seeing his dull expressions. She knew she was hurting him with her words but she had to do this. How can she accept such costly things from him? She knew these things will make her studies & job convenient for her. The bitter truth was that she could never afford these things & she didn't want him to prove that she was a gold-digger.
Sameer looked at her & asked, "Agar Nanu tumhe yeh sab dete toh tum rakh leti naa, kyunki tum unka dil nahi dukha paati?" She nodded agreeing to the fact, she would never ever hurt Nanaji. He was left with no option & he did the unexpected, "Ab tak tum ek patni ka farz nibhaa rahi thi na Naina, ab se main bhi tumhara pati hone ka farz nibhaaunga. Aur sabse pehla farz yahi hai ki main tumhe har wohh cheez dun jisse tumhara har kaam aasaan ho jaaye. Tum chaaho toh iske badle mujhe kuch de sakti ho?"
Naina looked sharply at him who was unfazed by her stare, "Aise kya dekh rahi ho, main kuch aisa waisa nahi maangnewaala ki tum mujhe yun ghoor rahi ho." She asked, "Toh fir aap kya kehna chaahte hai, seedhe seedhe boliye." He smiled coyly, "Bas roz naashte mein mujhe aloo parathe banaa dena, kitne dinon se khaaye hi nahi hai. Bas itna hi karna hai tumhe. Please na Naina... Maan jao na... Rakh lo na yeh sab. Mujhe bhi apna pati hone ka farz nibhaane ka mauka toh do. Kya tum mujhe ek chance nahi de sakti Naina???"
The way he pouted at her crumbled all her resistance power. She kept staring at her cute husband who was going all mushy to make her accept those gifts. Who could deny a person was looking at her with such deep intense hopeful eyes? She lowered her eyes & asked, "Kitne paratha khayenge???"
He jumped in excitement when he realized that she had accepted those gifts. Naina was stunned to see him this happy with her acceptance. When he realized what he had done, he rubbed his neck nervously, "Wohhh... thank you..." Without turning back, he switched the lights off & slept peacefully, happy & content.
Naina too closed her eyes thinking about the sudden change in his behavior & for the first time she was liking this change. She drifted to sleep immediately. The next morning, Sameer got up with a jerk when the alarm buzzed right next to his ear. He smiled knowingly, as this was surely done by his lovely wife.
He got ready fast & joined Nanu for breakfast. Nanu was happy seeing that Sameer & Naina both seemed happy. "Kya hua barkhurdaar? Itna kyun mann hi mann muskuraa raha hai? Zara mujhe bhi toh bataa kya baat hai? Main bhi khush ho jaata hun thoda." "Kya Nanu... aapko koi mila nahi koi subah se jo meri itni khinch rahe hai?"
Nanu laughed out, "Accha sirf haan yaa naa mein jawaab de de, main sab samaj jaaunga." Sameer raised his eyebrows & Nanu asked, "Naina ne tere gifts le liye kya???" He just blinked in his eyes in reply & Nanu was very much happy with that. Finally, everything was getting back on track but still it was a very long way for them.
Sameer kept looking towards the kitchen to have a glance of his wife. Nanu was very much elated with this sudden change. He had expected that after knowing that Naina was going to work with Kabir, Sameer would be more than angry. But now after seeing his grandson getting restless to see his wife, Nanu was overjoyed.
Nanu called out looking at his restless grandson, "Ramdhari... Ramdhari... jaldi se naashta le aa, yahaan kisiko bohot bhook lagi hai." Sameer looked away instantly understanding that Nanu was teasing him. After five minutes, Ramdhari came out holding the casserole. Naina followed behind him with the tray as usual.
Before Ramdhari could start serving, Naina said, "Bhaiyaa... aap rehne dijiye... Main kar lungi." He went back to the kitchen to bring the bowl of curd. Naina turned to her attractive husband who was waiting to see if she had made his favorite breakfast. She served Nanu first & Sameer was delighted to see that she indeed had made his favorite aloo parathas.
Naina served his plate with three hot aloo parathas & the curd. She kept the cup of coffee in front of him & then settled next to him for breakfast. The moment she sat beside him; he inhaled her rosy fragrance & groaned internally. Sameer Maheshwari ate five parathas that day which surprised Nanu & Naina. She mentally chuckled & whispered, "Bhukkad."
When he saw his grandfather's mischievous look, Sameer asked, "Kya??? Aap aise kya dekh rahe hai Nanu?" He chuckled, "Aisa lag raha hai jaise kitne saalon se bhookha hai?" His grandson rubbed his neck, "Kya Nanu aap bhi? Maine kal raat ko thik se khaana nahi khaaya tha toh abhi bhook lagi thi. Aur waise bhi aaj bohot dinon ke baad aloo paratha khaaye hai na, toh aur bhi mazaa aa gaya, itne tasty parathe khaakar."
Naina blushed & looked away instantly. Nanu raised his eyebrows at Sameer who spoke to stop the teasing ahead, "Hume chalna chahiye, bohot late ho raha hai." Naina & Sameer went back to their room to collect their bags. As soon as the door closed, Sameer whispered, "Thank you..."
She smiled in reply & picked her bag up. When Sameer was about to open the door, she stopped him, "Sameer..." He turned to look at her, "Ummmm... Aapko koi problem toh nahi na ki main Nanaji ki NGO mein kaam karnewaali hun???" He knew why she was asking this, "Main khush hun ki tumne wohh pehli do jobs nahi li, jo itna durr the. Aur mujhe Nanu ke har faisle par poora vishwas hai. Agar unhe lagta hai ki tum unke NGO ka kaam acche se sambhaal sakti ho toh usme mujhe kya problem hoga?"
She hesitantly asked further, "Aapko mera Kabir ke saath kaam karne se bhi koi problem nahi hai na?" There it was the most dreading question. Sameer took a deep breath & looked at her, "Kabir mera bohot accha dost hai aur main jaanta hun ki tumhe usse accha boss nahi milega. Par..."
Naina waited patiently for his next words which didn't come out as Sameer himself wasn't sure about what was going on in his heart & mind. He closed his eyes & turned to open the door, "Chalo... warna hume sach mein late ho jaayega aaj." Naina too went silent after that & followed him downstairs.
When they came in the living room, Nanu was waiting for them. Once they settled in the car, Sameer asked, "Naina... Tumne mobile liya?" She nodded, "Haaannn..." He continued, "Maine mobile mein mera, Nanu, Munna, Pandit aur Kabir ka number feed kar diya hai. Tumhe jab bhi zarurat pade toh bina jijhak tum mujhe kabhi bhi call kar sakti ho Naina."
"Thik hai." The ride was silent all the way till they reached college. Both of them were lost in their thoughts. Naina was surprised with her own behavior. "Kya maine inke yeh gifts accept karke koi galti toh nahi kar di na? Mujhe yeh kya ho raha hai, kyun maine unki baat maan li? Kyun maine unki di hui gifts le li?" Her heart replied, "Tumne toh pehle bhi Sameer ki laayi hui gifts le li thi toh ab kyun itna soch rahi ho?"
Yesss... She had denied the gifts brought by him the first time & then accepted on Nanaji's insistence, even after knowing that those gifts were actually brought by Sameer himself. Nanaji had helped him out at that time. But she was sure that even yesterday Sameer would've asked him for his help & Nanaji would've denied him, so her husband was left with no other option than to use his charms to make her accept them. She chuckled to herself thinking how he had made her do as he wanted.
While leaving she had deliberately asked if he was comfortable knowing that she would work with Kabir. She had seen his anger before so even now she was scared for his reaction. She had seen apprehension in his eyes yesterday too but he hadn't brought out that topic in their room as he seemed busy in making her accept his gifts. She herself was not going to be comfortable working with Kabir. But she had no choice right now, so she accepted Nanaji's job offer. Now only time would tell what would happen ahead.
Sameer was also lost in his thoughts, "Mere diye hue gifts toh Naina ne le liye aur main khush bhi hun par kuch hai jo mujhe accha nahi lag raha hai." His heart replied instantly, "Ab se Naina Kabir ke saath kaam karne waali hai, shaayad yeh tujhe accha nahi lag raha, kyun?" His hold on the steering wheel tightened when he imagined Naina working with his friend. He so wished that she would've worked for his company with him. He could easily see through his friend that he had started liking Naina, which he wasn't liking at all.
But what could he do when his Nanu himself wanted Naina to work with Kabir? Last night when he had seen Kabir at the door, he was sure that Nanu had planned her job at Kabir's office. At least it was a solace for him to know that she would go to office only once or twice a week & that would limit their interactions too. But still he was feeling restless.
When the car stopped at the entrance, Sameer saw Kabir & Preeti talking to some other girl. He came out of the car to meet them. As he neared, Naina stiffened next to him seeing Shreya gawking at her handsome husband. Now Sameer was more intrigued to know what was happening.
The siblings greeted them & then Shreya nudged Preeti. She happily made the introductions, "Sameer... Yeh hai meri school friend Shreya Gujral. Aur Shreya... yeh hai Sameer Maheshwari, Kabir bhai ke friend aur Maheshwari Industries ke owner."
Shreya came forward & forwarded her hand, "Hiii... Main toh kal hi aapse milna chaahti thi par possible nahi hua. But I'm happy to meet a handsome hunk like you today." Sameer glanced sideways to look at Naina once & then took her hand, "Its nice meeting you Shreya. But I think I need to leave. I'm getting late." Saying that he left her hand & both the friends walked back to their cars & drove to their workplaces.
Naina was fuming during all the lectures. "Iss Shreya ki bacchi ko toh main dekh lungi. Aise kaise sabke samne Sameer ko handsome hunk bula sakti hai? Kuch manners hai ki nahi kya pataa? Mere saamne mere pati par line maar rahi thi. Ab toh kal se main Sameer ko saath laaungi hi nahi college. Haannn yahi sahi hai."
Preeti was looking keenly at Naina & wasn't surprised to see her anger towards Shreya. Naina's behavior had confirmed that she liked Sameer. Now she had to make her speak that, but how? In the last lecture, a peon entered their class with a notice in hand.
The professor read it first & then announced, "College mein freshers party organize hui hai iss Saturday ko shaam paanch baje, toh jo bhi interested ho wohh isme aa sakte hai aur participate kar sakte hai, kyunki aap sab bhi iss collge mein naye ho. Baaki ke sab details baahar notice board par hai." The bell rang announcing the end of their lectures & they headed home, but not before reading all the details about the fresher's party. Preeti & Shreya looked forward to it while Naina wasn't interested.
After having lunch together, Naina & Nanu went to his NGO. Naina was surprised to see the five-floored building which read, "Jaanki Orphange." Nanu gave her a tour of the whole premises & then left her at Kabir's cabin.
Naina wasn't sure if she had made the right decision to work with Kabir. She never was comfortable around him. On the other side, Kabir was ecstatic that he would get some alone time with her to know her better. Naina had brought the laptop that Sameer had gifted her last night. Kabir transferred all the data in her laptop & asked the IT head to install the modules that would be required by her for managing the whole accounting section.
After an hour or so, Nanu joined them & saw Naina going through all the details of the orphanage. He was very much happy to see that she was readily learning about his precious NGO. Naina got her laptop back after two hours & Kabir explained to her all the modules, procedures & everything required for her to know for the accounting purposes.
Nanu & Naina reached home at the same time when Sameer parked his car at the entrance. They all retired to rooms to freshen up & had their dinner where Nanu updated Sameer about Naina's first day at work. Naina was quiet all the time which was noticed by Sameer but he didn't question that & continued with the meal.
Once they were back in their room, Sameer asked, "Tum itni chup kyun ho?" She just glanced at him once & without meeting his eyes, she replied, "Aaj main thoda jyada hi thak gayi hun." Sensing her mood off, he wanted to tease. He had seen the way she had behaved when he had shaken hands with Shreya. Her expressions seemed that she was ready to kill her at that moment.
He started, "Waise wohhh... kaun mili thi aaj college mein??? Uska naam yaad nahi aa raha." Naina stiffened again realizing that he was talking about Shreya, what about her now? He continued, "Haannn... Yaad aaya... Shreya... Shreya Gujral..." Naina held the pillow tightly in her hand.
Sameer saw this & continued, "Acchi hai na wohh??? Matlab dikhne mein acchi hai aur uska dressing sense bhi kaafi accha hai, hai na Naina???" That was it. She got up from the couch & headed towards the washroom, to hide her tears. Sameer understood that he had gone too far & reached her before she could open the door. He was shocked to see the tears in her eyes.
"Naina..." He held her face in his palms & wiped her tears slowly. She met his gaze & spoke with finality, "Aap kal se mujhe college chodne nahi aayenge." Sameer was definitely surprised with her words, "Main kyun nahi aa sakta?", he asked raising his eyebrows. "Maine kahaa na ki aap nahi aayenge toh bas nahi aayenge."
He wanted to laugh out but controlled somehow & spoke softly, "Naina... ek baat acche se yaad rakhna aur main yeh waapis nahi kahunga..." She stared at him & he spoke, "Main bhale kisi bhi ladki se haath milaun yaa baat karun, rahunga toh tumhara husband hi, Mrs Naina Sameer Maheshwari..."
