Language keeps evolving. But I meant the origin of the word. Virginity did evolve from the concept of getting the "virgin knot snapped.
Or probably the word sounds really weird when used on a guy because no guy has ever been described as a virgin in the scores of books I read.
But that could be because they aren't 🤣

Yeah, because virgin used to mean unmarried then and most people assumed that unmarried = never had sex. Literature uses the archaic virgin so that's why you've never seen it to describe a guy; it meant unmarried woman rather than unmarried person. Bachelor was used to describe unmarried man. However, if you're referring to modern literature, I'm surprised. I've read many books that describe a man as a virgin. Mind you, these days, there are very few adult/teen virgins of either sex. It's used more as a derogatory term nowadays.

Virginity means a state of purity or inexperience. Traditionally a virgin is a person that had not had sexual intercourse. Usually, the idea of virginity is used for women, but it is also used for men who have not had sexual intercourse. ... Whether the woman has a hymen does not really indicate if she is a virgin or not.

Found this online. And it seems convincing.

Yep, that's what I was saying. Maybe it's because I live in the UK but virgin is used equally for both sexes here and very little people expect a woman to be a virgin.

Yup. I get the drift.
I don't read chick lit and the once I have read belong to my mother. 😆
Maybe that's why.
I have sensed that virgin is an offensive adjective even in India. So I can imagine how it's in the UK!

No. Snapping your hymen is losing your maidenhood. Virginity is a unisex term. The Oxford dictionary clearly has 'person who has never had sexual intercourse' as its primary definition. In the past, the word virgin meant unmarried woman and maid was used to describe a woman who'd never had sex. Now, like I said, virginity is a unisex term.

umm... what is a hymen??

The hymen is a membrane that surrounds or partially covers the external vaginal opening. It forms part of the vulva, or external genitalia, and is similar in structure to the vagina.

PS - I think it's a good idea to google for anything you don't know :)

Very rarely do you meet someone as innocent as Preeti, especially someone in their thirties. These days, at least in the UK, everyone knows everything about sex by their early teen years.

Told her to google things so many times before. She says her internet is too slow.

😕 😕
Oh..
Yes. She's too innocent.
Sometimes people would even attribute it to ignorance.
I have a friend who's like her.. It's even more weird considering she's married!
In the world of laser hair reduction, she doesn't even know what waxing is 😕
