Chapter 8
Pawania Clan:-
"Are you sure about this? " Lakhan cautioned his cousin.
"Yes. " Preet said" We need to inform this to others. If the Pahuja are plotting against us. And that Planner to."
"I don't know." Lakhan mumbled, turning his attention back to the steering.
"We need to tell Veerji about this,"
Lakhan grip tightened on the steering. Preet was about to continue, but stopped when she saw her cousin all stressed. She asked him to stop the jeep, which he did.
" Don't worry" Preet gently intoned. "I believe you. And they will too, believe you."
"But Tej won't believe me. He never believes me." Lakhan stated with a gloomy sigh, his shoulder dropped. Averting his gaze from her said"He would yell at me for not informing him that Rajveer was and is still lurking around in this village. He won't even bother to listen to me..."
'He is right' Preet thought silently. "How about we inform Shah Ji about this first."
"As if! Do you think he will take it calmly that the one who tried to murder his Beeji, is still freely roaming around the village?" he retorted, leaning back against the driver seat.
" But he is not." Preet reasoned,
"But for him it is" Lakhan said. He covered his lips with his index finger"But you know what he is still a much better option than Tej. We should also call Sukhi just for safety measure "Lakhan said thoughtfully, as took out his cell phone and started to dial a number
Preet crossed her arms and glared angrily at her cousin. " You're acting as if he is a wild bull or something, who would pounce on you the moment he sees you"
"He does act like one lately" Lakhan stated in a dry tone as he placed the phone nearer the ear, " Hello Manu,"
-------------------------------
Manu walked in the barn, his heavy footsteps echoed through the small congested room. The barn was filled with huge sacks containing animal feed, leaving only a little room for a two people to walk in. Manu removed his headgear and mussed his hair with the other hand, slumping down on the floor. He was tired, as if his usual routine wasn't tiring enough, it was topped up with more work. And Gunjan didi. Manu gritted his teeth, a light growl escape from him. That girl had got on his nerves nowadays. He loved her alright, he loved her tenderly. She was the only sister, he had left after Simran. He might move heaven and hell for his sister. But the girl never understood him, she won't even give him time to relax, after the whole day of hard work, when he returns home, she would hurl accusations at him, whine and complain him for not stopping the marriage. Sometime he feel that she doesn't even love him. That she only cares for herself. Before his mother used to stand up for him and support him. But now even, she...
He was not a robot. He was a human. He also needs some time to relax. And there is only one thing that helps him relax. Manu took out the packet of cigarette. At first it felt bitter, but then it feels really relaxing and soothing to his nerves. He was about to take a cigarette from the pack, when a hand snatched it away from him.
"Since when did you start smoking"
"Since when did you started to interfere in my personal matters, Lakhan Pava."Manu seethed through gritted teeth.
Lakhan glared pointedly at his friend."Manu its not good for your health..."
"I don't care!" Manu snapped at him"Give me it back to me. That's the only thing that helps me relax."
"Shah Ji relax " Preet said cautiously who walked in when Lakhan snatched the packet from him, followed by Sulkhi. Both stood by the door.
"Manu, please relax," Sukhi said meekly.
"How would, you know how I feel." Manu scoffed angrily "Working all the day, with no time to relax. You only know to laze around, playing your stupid flute..."
"Manpreet Pawania!" Preet roared at him in rage, as her body shook with intense anger. Sukhi flinched while Manu stared at Preet in shock. She had never addressed him by his full name and that also in this manner.
"Laze huh?" Lakhan said bitterly "If early morning workout, wrestling practice, college, work, wrecking your brain to get out of Mohini sleazy plot and traps and fighting off a mob of Bajwa is a Laze for you then..." Lakhan trailed off, glaring pointedly at Manu.
" I'm sorry, I went too far "Manu said apologetically.
"Leave it. I have to say something."Lakhan said in a serious tone "Something important."
