Small screen beckons Simone

We saw her essay the role of a Muslim wife with elan in the popular soap Heena years ago. After doing small but substantial roles in films, Simone Singh has made a comeback on the small screen. Nidhi Mittal talks to the actress

How did you bag the role of Anoushka in Virasat?

The production house called me with the offer. I was not sure in the beginning, but later agreed. I don't know much about replacing Pooja Ghai as Anoushka in the show.

Do you think it's going to be difficult to replace an actor who has played the character since the beginning?

Every new project that I take up is different for me. I have to treat this one also as a fresh role. My approach of doing it will be different. I am not supposed to copy anyone's style to fit into the character.

You are back on TV after a long time. Why did you think of taking up this project?

Honestly, soaps don't interest me and I am busy with films as well. My film Delhi Heights has just released and then there is Bhram with Milind Soman and Via Darjeeling which is a thriller. I also don't believe in monotony. Doing a daily soap doesn't leave you with any time to work on other projects.

accepted this offer for various reasons.

One, everything related to the show seemed great. Since I have to shoot for around 15 days a month, it leaves me with ample time to do other things. And moreover, the character is very strong. Anoushka is a strong woman who has gone through a lot of suffering, she knows her mind and she speaks it out too. It is a role worth doing.

You're fond of reading. Tell us more.

I read everything that comes my way. I read philosophy also, though literature is a great love. I do not stick to one genre. I love reading biographies too.

cheers
