AAMAR DADA: Rohit Roy

Rohit Roy is not just passionate about cricket but also a particular cricketer — Saurav Ganguly. Rohit not only refers to the bespectacled Ganguly as 'Dada' like many Indians but also is very protective about him.

Rohit was very upset over the former captain being dropped out of the team earlier and had even carried out a massive SMS campaign to get his Dada back in the team.

Scoring with Dada

Recently, Rohit got a chance to chat up with Saurav. "I messaged him after his recent score of 98 runs on 109 balls against West Indies in Nagpur.

He replied back with a thank-you and appreciated my support. I plan to meet him soon when he's in the city this month-end. It will be good to sit down with him and chat up about cricket," says Rohit.

However this won't be the first time Rohit will meet his idol. "In fact I have played with him at a celebrity match organized some five years back. It was an actors versus cricketers match, and interestingly I made more runs than him."

MY FAN NO.1: Saurav Ganguly

Idol chatter

Rohit is very fond of Ganguly not just as a cricketer but also as a person. "I am very fond of dada also because he stands for everything I hold very close to my heart. He is not just a good player but an outstanding human being.

There have been many times in the past when he's been put down and humiliated. But each time he's struck back with a bigger and better form. I think I can identify with his ability to not just be a survivor but also emerge victorious under all situations."

Bengali connection

Does he favour Ganguly because of the Bengali connection? Rohit says, "We have that bonding going on, but besides sharing a common background, I'm also fond of him as a human being.'

These days, Rohit has announced a sabbatical from television and is looking towards films. "I am looking at interesting roles in films. At the moment, I am working on Shoot out at Lokhandwala and Dus Kahaaniyan. Both have me in totally different roles, so it's good fun."

Pleasantly surprised with the awards falling into his lap, Rohit is looking forward to winning some more. "Of course I love awards. Without being a narcissist, I want to say that I'm thrilled with the Young Achievers' award I won over the weekend."

I think it is the Bengali factor that binds them more 🤗 ...it is but natural when Rohit who loves cricket himself and a bengali too will actaully prefer a saurav over a dravid or dhoni.....I have noticed one thing that bengalis are very possesive about their language and their Kolkata. 👏 ...written in light humour,do not pounce on me..... 😳
thanks for the article.
