TV actor Rohit Roy shares his experience at the recently held Gifa in Malaysia
Malaysia hosted the Global Indian Film Awards 2006. Popcorn Entertainment's Suniel Shetty and his wife Mana are one of the best hosts around. It must be a logistic nightmare to co-ordinate over 600 guests from all over but given the enormity of the task, I think, Anna and gang did a fantastic job.
DAY 1
The first batch of stars started arriving on December 6. My friend Arbaaz Khan was with me on flight and our party started from the moment we got off the plane. After checking in at the hotel, we went to a mall Mines. One could actually take a boat from our hotel to this mall. I felt like James Bond speeding in my speed boat.
DAY 3
I am anchoring the White Feather's press conference. Accompanying Sanjay Gupta are Apoorva Lakhia, Hansal Mehta, Jasmeet Dodhi, Sikandar, Neha Uberoi, Arbaaz Khan, Suniel Shetty and Aarti Chhabria. We leave to take part in a football match. We were sure to beat the ministers but what we didn't know is that they are all ex-foot ball players! Later, at the charity dinner at the Palace state room, Neha Uberoi and I are seated together at a table shared by a Hong Kong based property giant and the health minister of Malaysia. Their interest in Bollywood is intriguing as they don't even understand Hindi.
FINAL DAY
Abhishek Bachchan has flown down to perform despite his grandma being very unwell. Arbaaz is very nervous hosting a live show for the first time. Priyanka Chopra is rehearsing alone. I was very nervous too as I had to host a segment and had to share the stage with some of India's biggest stars. Then, celebrations continue in Salmanbhai's room. We are up till the sun comes out, drinking and dancing and had to be dragged away to catch the morning flight back to Mumbai. It was a rocking flight back home as I had Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra and Shah Rukh Khan for company.
