A powerful kick straight into the goal by superstar Salman Khan and another one by fellow teammate Arjun Rampal saw the Bollywood actors tie a friendly soccer match 2-2 against Malaysian cabinet ministers on Friday, held as part of the second Global Indian Film Awards currently underway in Kuala Lumpur.
More than 3,000 Malaysian fans shrieking with excitement applauded every move by the film stars.
The Bollywood team was led by Sohail Khan while the Malaysian team was captained by Deputy Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak. Besides Cabinet ministers and government officials, the Malaysian side also had two former footballers.
Though it poured heavily, the rains suddenly stopped and the sun shone brightly 15 minutes before the game began at the National Stadium which was built when Malaysia hosted the Commonwealth games a few years ago.
The first goal of the game was scored by the opponents in the third minute but five minutes later Salman chested a ball flinging it towards the goalmouth and kicking it hard into the nets. His goal was greeted by thunderous applause by the crowd -- comprising both Malays and ethnic Indians.
Arjun scored the second goal for the Bollywood team in the 25th minute of the first half by converting a pass. Malaysia cabinet ministers' team's equaliser came from former footballer K Rajagopal.
The crowd enjoyed every move by the stars, especially by Salman, who walked around the stadium waving to them and blowing kisses. He was accompanied by five bodyguards when he took the lap around the field. The other stars in the team included Arbaaz Khan , Atul Agnihotri , Dino Morea , Rohit Roy and Sanjay Kapoor . Katrina Kaif and Shatrughan Sinha also came to watch the friendly match.
The concluding part of the function will be the Global Indian Film Awards Night on Saturday which is to feature Abhishek Bachchan , Shah Rukh Khan , Amisha Patel and Salman.
