It was her first experience of hosting a show and she got it perfect. Sangeeta Ghosh also performed in all the episodes of Nach Baliye 1. Season 2 will see the sexy actress back on the show.. You are back to anchoring. How was the experience last time and how is it going to be this time round?
It was a nice and exciting experience the last time though there was lot of pressure and stress because it was my first experience of hosting a show. Besides there were celebrities and celebrity judges and the entire nation was watching it. Nach Baliye being a high profile show has kept me on my toes. I had to do my best and I guess I didn't disappoint myself as well as others. However, when it came to announcing names of the eliminated jodis, I used to feel bad. Though it's a competition and someone has to go out every week one feels bad for the jodi that bows out after weeks of rehearsals and hard work. Having done the first season of the show the experience is there but the job is more challenging this time, because there are expectations and one has excel. There's no fun in anchoring a show again if you are just going to do it the way you did the last time. Improvisation and aiming for higher result is the key to progress. You are a pretty good dancer and must have enjoyed performing in the show.
Oh yeah, it was a fantastic experience. I love dancing and I had great time performing in all the episodes. I had a ball and it made up for not being part of the show as a participant. Wouldn't you have preferred to be a participant in the show instead of hosting it this time? After all, Narayani Shastri, though not married, is doing the show with her boyfriend Gaurav Chopra.
(Laughs) Well, I am single and don't have a boyfriend either. What's all that talk about you bonding with your co-host Shabbir?
Well, we share an excellent on-screen chemistry but it has not spilled over into real life. I didn't meet him even once after the show was over. I have had my share of relationships but not with any of her co-actors. But then all that's past now and I don't regret any of the relationships not materializing into something concrete. In the last six years I have not had a single relationship. It's been only work and work that has kept me busy. I know how to keep myself happy. I am doing good work and have my family and friends to be happy and keep myself connected with people. But I am definitely waiting for my prince charming. Interestingly, the last six years have been the most significant ones in your career, starting with Des Mein Niklla Hoga Chand which propelled you into the bracket of leading and most happening TV stars.
I have been around for over 12 years now but the last six years have been the best in my career. I am really happy but I want to go ahead. The quest for success continues. I want to reach the top and I think I deserve to be there. I am happy with my role in Viraasat and the show is also doing pretty well. But I want Priyanka to become as popular as Pammi of Des....
Viraasat has been talked about for some bold love-making scenes as well as the costumes you wear. What's your take on it?
Well, it's not a Kama Sutra. What's bold about it? There was just one marriage consummation scene, which was shot very aesthetically. I don't agree that it's a bold show. What's there in it that's has not been shown and seen on television before? Also I have done the so-called bold scenes before. So what's this talk? In fact, it's a classy show that revolves around an extremely rich family, and the costumes are in tune with the story, characters and backdrop. I have got positive feedback for my role. Which are the serials you have enjoyed doing and which roles you consider as your best?
I can say for sure that I have enjoyed doing all the serials I have done till date. But the problem with TV is that serials go on for three or four years and the life of a character is stretched a bit too far. When the role has such a long life you tend to enjoy your work in bits and pieces. You enjoy certain moments and certain moments you don't because the character undergoes so many changes. What do you feel about today's television programming when you compared it with the one when you started your career?
TV has such huge audience that you don't know who is watching what and who is identifying with what. But surely there's a segment of audience that identifies with something somewhere. Even something silly also may be going down well with someone somewhere. Television has evolved a lot but I would like it to improve further. There is lot of talent around and a lot of things are happening. But not everything that's happening is right. When you do a show you do not agree with everything. At times you are not convinced with the story or the way it's moving. But you got to go with the flow because you are part of it. Are you looking at anchoring more shows in future?
Yes, I would love to anchor if I get the right kind of offers.
