Rohit calls the shots

The Viraasat sets have been plagued by a peculiar problem. Rohit Roy is refusing to shoot with director Arvind Babbal. Both are at loggerheads and each one feels that the other is wrong. Roy plays Rahul Lamba in this Ravi Chopra production on Star Plus.

Director's cut

The buzz from the sets is that some days ago, Roy was in a tearing hurry and wanted to leave early. He allegedly demanded that all the scenes with him in them, be shot first. As a result, Babbal had to knock some sense in his head.

Says Babbal, "The incident did happen, but it was resolved. Rohit told me to finish off with his scenes first as he wanted to go. He was telling me what to do. So I was forced to explain what the job of the director is. I had to give him some director's talk. An actor can't tell a director what to do; it is the director who tells an actor what to do on the sets."

Taking interest

Roy, on the other hand, maintains that he does not want to get himself embroiled in any controversy. But he admits, "Yes, I have refused to shoot with him."

He maintains that he was not a hurry to leave that day. "That is incorrect. I was not a rush. Why should I be, when I have come for a shoot? All that I wanted to know was the A to Z of the scene being shot.

I'm an actor who takes interest in what is happening in the scene. I want to know the emotional graph. While shooting one high-voltage scene, he was setting up another scene. I asked him some questions and he failed to reply. That was it. A director is the captain of the ship. If he does not have the answers, who does?"

Shoot at sigh!

Adds Roy, "I don't know why this issue is being raked up now. It happened a long time back. At present, I'm busy shooting for Apoorva Lakhia's film Shootout At Lokhandwala."

So what happens to Viraasat? "I am shooting for Viraasat, but with the other directors Rajan and Goldie," he says.

It is learnt that after the incident, Babbal, too, mentioned that he would not shoot with Rohit. When asked, he says, "It was not exactly an issue. I am directing Viraasat."

Babbal, a seasoned director, came to Mumbai from New Delhi in 1998 and started with Kartavya. In the recent past, he has directed shows like Kumkum and Kesar.
