The heat is on: Sangeeta Ghosh and Rohit Roy in Viraasat |
Do you find this dirty?
The channel thought TV audiences would find Viraasat's suhaag raat scenes too hot. So they have been re-shot

The so-far-so-sweet Indian soap opera scene has come up against a unique stumbling block now. It has come up against some scenes which are apparently too hot to handle. So the suhaag raat scenes in B.R. Films' Viraasat, the kitschy, portable version of Romeo & Juliet have been re-shot to be "more romantic and less sexy".
Rohit Roy isn't sure whether he's relieved or disappointed at having to reshoot his controversial love scenes with Sangeeta Ghosh in Star's Viraasat after they were chopped off.
"Sangeeta and I had to reshoot a lot of the love scenes as it was found to be too steamy for Indian television. I think I'm more relieved than disappointed," says Rohit. "My wife watches Viraasat with my mom. Going by how elaborately we had shot those scenes, I'd have squirmed when they came on. I guess I'm not as cool as people think I am. I'm conservative at heart."
However Star's Senior Creative Director Shailja Kejriwal has a totally different take on the expunged scenes. "We had to reshoot a vital suhaag raat sequence in Viraasat featuring Rohit and Sangeeta, not because it was too steamy but because it was unaesthetic and ugly. The scene had been shot clumsily. We put in some candles, made the interaction between the couple more graceful." The controversial suhaag raat sequence will be aired next week." So, are Indian viewers ready for sex on television? "Why not?" says Shailja. "But it has to be done aesthetically."
