'Even I would work to save a bad marriage'

Simple, yet charming - that's model-turned-actor Pallavi Kulkarni for you. We catch up with the girl who's made it big without the help of a famous saas!

Actress Pallavi Kulkarni is a fairly well-known face on TV. And mind you, this without being part of any saas bahu sagas being produced by the big production houses.

Pallavi took to modelling after graduating in hotel management. And the career switch was well thought out, rather than being accidental.

"I was very interested in commercial marketing," reveals the model-actress who has many ads to her credit including the famous 'paanch' campaign for a cola brand with Aamir Khan. No wonder acting assignments followed. She recalls the experience of working with the perfectionist Khan, "He was very professional, yet easy going. He'll make a few
suggestions but mostly keep to his work."

Pallavi has now replaced Aroona Irani's lucky mascot Sangeeta Ghosh in her latest serial. However, she doesn't think it's a big deal.

"It's just that Aroonaji wanted to cast a girl with simple, innocent and docile look," she explains. Talking of the experience of working with Aroona Irani she says, "Aroona put everybody at ease. Besides, her set up is very professional and the work environment very disciplined," she adds.

She admits being able to relate to her character in the soap. "It's very similar to how I am in real life - tolerant. Even I would work to save a bad marriage. But I would certainly put my foot down after a point," says the Gemini who is a trained classical singer.

Despite being a recognisable face on TV, Pallavi herself is not a television buff. "But I like to catch up on serials that have real situations and are shot realistically, like Saans, Astitva, etc," she says adding that the saas-bahu sagas don't quite fit that category.

And what's her take on serials taking these huge time leaps and if she were ask to grey onscreen? "No, not right now. There are strong chances of getting typecast if you play an older character," she avers.

So what are her future plans? "I have never been much of a planner. I am happy doing one serial at a time," she maintains. And films?

She has a modest reply, "Who wouldn't want to do film?" But she is averse to exposing onscreen: "I am not cut out for that. I wouldn't want do to bold scenes as I'm not comfortable with the idea. After all, even I go back home and watch TV and films with my family," she concludes.
