I t's about… Love in the backdrop of family rivalry. But before you say 'not again', this love and rivalry saga happens to be from the Chopras (of BR and Ravi Chopra fame) stable. According to producer Ravi Chopra, 'the genesis of the plot lay in an idea as to what would happened if Romeo and Juliet instead of dying had lived and married.' Rahul Lamba and Priyanka Kharbanda are the serial's fate-crossed lovers hailing from two warring families, who get married to their respective family's shock and awe, and then unfolds Viraasat. Who's in it? A welcome mix of some of the best and popular actors in TV today. While Aman Verma (another winner in grey) and Amarr Upadhyay make a comeback of sorts in pivotal roles after a decent gap in the daily soap scene, Rohit Roy and Sangeeta Ghosh play the lead lovers. The veteran quotient is aptly matched by Deepak Nazir, Kiran Kumar and a 'dignified and in great form' Jayati Bhatia. Upside: Well etched out characters, gripping twists and some really well-written dialogues with a smattering of a certain degree of cerebral involvement (seen after a long time on the daily soap scene) keep the serial's tension quotient going. Not just the lead, each and every character in the plot has got a defined track (at least till now), so it's not another bunch of cardboard cutouts seeking their existence around the lead's exploits. Thank God for finally some break from kitchen politics. Downside: None as of now, but might happen if the channel decides to flog till eternity its next golden goose in the making. Also it shouldn't end up being a linear Priyanka (Sangeeta Ghosh) versus Risabh Lamba (Aman Verma) fight with Aman's character filling in for the nastiness of the proverbial saas. So should you be watching it? Yes, if you love drama in the traditional confrontationist style, peppered with some great dialogues.
