At the end of it, maybe Prithvi is really Varun's missing elder brother, pretending to be a different person. The rest of the family may have been wiped out by Anu Shukla, Varun brainwashed into thinking she's his sister, his brother disguised and hiding, and keeping a watch on the mysterious professor. More or less an Ekta Kapoor thread, but likely- and a chance missed by the writers again.
