Chapter 15
It was almost lunch time when Malhar came home. Sampada and Anupriya were setting the table while Moksh was watching TV. A sudden wave of anger overtook him at the mere sight of Sampada. He wanted to confront her but it wasn't the right time nor did he have any proofs against her so he decided to wait and find out the whole truth first.
Moksh had noticed Malhar at the door so he went up to him.
"Baba, aap kaha the raat bhar? Maine kal aapka kitni der tak intezaar kiya lekin aap aaye hi nahi toh mujhe neend aagayi thi."
"Sorry Moksh. Woh kal police station me kaam aagaya tha toh mujhe waha rukna pada," he lied.
"Lekin Malhar, jab maine tumhe phone kiya tha tab tumne kaha thi ki tum police station se nikal gaye ho aur itna bhi kya kaam tha jo tum poori raat aur aaj subah bhi ghar nahi aaye?," Sampada butted in.
"Ha toh mujhe police station se nikalne ke baad Pawar ka phone aaya tha toh mujhe wapas jaana pada aur maine Maai toh message kar diya tha. Haina Maai?"
Anupriya nodded her head.
"Lekin tum toh bilkul bhi thake huye nahi lag rahe ho," Sampada said.
Malhar was getting annoyed. Is he the ACP or she?
But to his relief Anupriya answered for him.
"Sampada, tumhe kya itni panchayat hai? Woh poori raat kam karke aaya hai toh thak gaya hoga. Use pehle andar toh aane do. Aao Malhar."
Malhar was going to his room but he was stopped again by Sampada.
"Malhar ruko. Yeh kya hai?," she asked while showing him an earring which she had taken out from his shirt.
Malhar's eyes widened. It was probably Kalyani's earring. He was going to get caught now for sure.
"Yeh woh...woh...ha! Woh kal na mujhe aur meri team ko ek chor ko pakadne kiliye jewellery shop pe jana pada toh waha se yeh jhumka meri shirt me atak gaya hoga," he replied. The little stutter and hint of insecurity was enough to give away his lie. He had never thought that he, ACP Malhar Rane would have to lie like this.
Sampada raised an eyebrow as if she didn't believe him but she let it be and went back to set the table.
Malhar had just showered and was about go to have lunch but his eyes fell on the earring which Anupriya had put on the table. It seemed very familiar to him. He picked it up in his hand and looked at it closely. It was the same earring he had gifted to Kalyani on Valentine's day a couple of years ago. She had been so excited to receive such a beautiful present from Malhar. She had been surprised that he actually had a good taste in jewellery as the only other present she had gotten was... well... rather not so exciting. He had never thought that she would still have them let alone wear them after so many years. A smile crept on his face as he swiped his fingers over the simple yet beautiful silver earrings.
The next morning had dawned and here Kalyani was walking back and forth in her room.
"Kaha gayi meri earring? Tumne itni khaas cheez kaise gumadi, Kalyani? Kal jab me hospital se nikli tab toh maine pehni hui thi. Matlab yahi kahi giri hogi lekin mujhe mil kyu nahi rahi hai?"
"Aayi chalo na, mujhe school kiliye late ho raha hai!," Ayushi shouted from downstairs. Kalyani had to stop the search and head downstairs.
The next few days, Malhar tried to reach out to Kalyani a lot of times but work had been really hectic so he never really got the chance to do so. Even today had been a busy day and he was more than happy that he was finally able to back home. It was raining heavily outside along with a few thunderstorms. He remembered that Moksh is really scared of thunderstorms and he can't fall asleep unless Malhar is there with him and that made him drive even faster but he had to suddenly stop the car when he saw a figure standing at the entance of a building, probably taking shelter from the rain. Though he was in a hurry, he couldn't just let a person stand there in the rain so he got out and went up to the person. To his surprise it was none other than Kalyani.
"Kalyani tum yaha?," he asked. Kalyani too looked a bit shocked.
"Haa main woh ghar jaane kiliye auto dhoond rahi thi lekin koyi mili hi nahin rahi. Meri gaadi kharab haina isiliye," she answered while trying to avoid eye contact with him.
"Mai ghar chod deta hoon"
Kalyani's head shot up. "Hmmm? Nahi nahi iski koyi zaroorat nahi hai, aap jaiye, main manage karlungi"
'Kitni ziddi hai yeh ladki,' Malhar thought to himself.
The rain was getting stronger each passing moment and if they didn't leave as soon as possible they might not be able to drive back home at all.
"Kya kar rahe he aap yaha khade khade. Chale jaaye na waise bhi Pil- mera matlab hai Moksh aur Sampada aapka intezaar kar rahe hoge. Dekhiye baarish tez hoti jaa rahi hai aur agar aap ab nahi nikle toh gaadi chalana mushkil ho jayega aur phir aap ghar jaa nahi paayega aur phir Sam-" her words were cut of by Malhar who placed his hand on her mouth. You could clearly tell, he was irritated.
"Kitna bolti ho tum! In saat saalon me sab kuch badal gaya lekin tumhari bina break wali bolni ki aadat nahi baadli. Aur main tumhe yaha akele chod ke kyu jaayo? Tumhe kya lagta mujhe sirf Moksh aur Sampada ki parvaah hai tumhari nahi?"
Kalyani's eyes softened at his words. Malhar too realised what he had just said, but this time he didn't regret it. He told her the truth and he was glad he did. There was a long silence in between them. You could hear the rain drops falling on the ground. Drop by drop. The cool breeze gently hit their faces. Malhar's hand cupped her cheek and softly brushed his thumb against it.
"Bohot parwaah karta hoon mai tumhari. Sirf mujhe pata hain maine itne saal tumhare bina kaise guzaare. Roz yaad karta tha main tumhe. Tumhara intezaar karta tha ki tum ab aayogi lekin tum nahi aayi." Tears made their way down his cheeks as he continued.
"Itne saalon baad tumhe dekha maine. Itni khushi mujhe aaj tak nahi hui jitni mujhe uss din hui thi jab maine tumhe dekha tha Ayushi, humari beti, ke saath. Pata hain mujhe bohot dukh hua tha jab mujhe pata chala ki humari beti ne itne saal bina baap ke guzaare hain. Lekin maine teh karliya hai ki main usse woh sara pyaar dunga joh use in kuch saalon me nahi mila. Hum dono shayad kabhi ek na ho paaye.... lekin.... iss wajah se main Ayushi ko toh thukra nahi sakta. Meri beti hai woh aur uska pura haq banta hai ki use uske baap ka pyaar mile. Shayad iss hi bahane tum bhi..."
He didn't continue. He didn't want to give himself false hopes. More tears escaped his eyes. Never had Kalyani seen him in such a vulnerable state. She was shocked at his behavior. She didn't know what to think or do. She just gently wiped his tears away and without even realizing, she had started crying too. Malhar's head hung down low. He couldn't help but let himself fall in her arms and without hesitating Kalyani too wrapped her arms around him. Stroking his hair which was all wet because of the rain. His wet clothes were sticking to his body and drenched Kalyani's clothes too.
But all of a sudden Malhar pushed her away. Not harshly but hard enough to make her flinch at the sudden action. He scratched his nape before turning around and wiping his tears. Without sparing a glance at Kalyani he signalled her to follow him to the car.
Kalyani on the other hand was taken aback. She didn't want this moment to happen nor did she want it to stop. His sudden action shocked her. She was trying to process what just happend when suddenly a car pulled up right in front of her. The blinding headlights made her cover her eyes.
A man stepped out. He was quite tall and had a well maintened body*. He ran his hand through his dark brown locks as he aproached Kalyani.
Who was he?

*By well maintened body here, I meant a muscular but not too muscular body (does that make sense?). But please note that you do not have to be shredded to have a well maintened body. I just chose these words because they seemed to be the best description in this case. This may seem unnecessary but I still think it's important to mention it because you never know who might get triggered or feel insecure even if it's just a fictional story with fictional characters.

Yeah, it's been a while. That "tomorrow" came after a month. There's just a lot going on in my life and the current situation is only making it worse and it's really messing with my mental health so I genuinly had no motivation to proof read and update eventough it isn't even a big task but it seemed like it. Besides the new semester has started and I need to focus on my studies. So yeah, hope you understand.
And just letting you know that I have stopped watching the show. I don't know but at this point it just seems like a waste of time to me. I have no clue what's going on in the show hence I won't visit the forum much either. But I will continue this FF as for now as this has nothing to do with the storyline in the show but if by any chance I decide to quit writing please respect my decision. And I'm aware that it's annoying to wait so many weeks just for the next chapter but writing is just my hobby and hobbies are supposed to be something you enjoy that's why I only write when I feel like it. I don't want my hobby to become a task.
And the situation in India has been all over the news and it's really painful to see what people are going through there. I hope you all are safe.
Minnie, Priya di and Rekha di I just wanted to let you guys know that I really miss talking to you guys and I'm really grateful for the fact that I even got to know you guys in the first place. All of you Raabta forum members hold a special place in my heart and if there's something I'll miss about stopping watching the show then that's our little convos and those epi discussions. Love you all 💕
With that being said, let me just stop here before this becomes longer than the actual chapter and while I was proof reading, I realised that this chapter is kind of rushed, I'm sorry for that but I don't want to rewrite it now so I'm just going to let it be as it is.

Yes as you mentioned, the show has nothing to do with the FFs. So if you feel like writing we are always happy to read it. If you don't want to continue also it's fine. It's your choice and I respect it.
This forum and the members will always be close to our heart. We all have a Raabta too. 🤗
It's understandable that the situation around us is not exactly helping. Everyone is trying to cope in their own way.
Yes the situation in India is disheartening and is messing with our minds. We should pray for everyone's safety and not just our own families back there.
We need to stay strong and provide them all the support that they need to overcome this tough phase.
