Hi All,

Here we are with our thirdTheme of the Week and this week's theme is -

Classical or semi classical songs from films

Theme idea credit - Ankita 😊

So here we go folks ... everything else remains the same ...

List down your favorite classical or semi classical numbers from films ... if possible along with the raga they are based on 😳 ...

Which contestant would you like to see singing them?

Share related articles and related artistes, and basically anything under the sun related to classical music

As always, my request is for more contributions to this thread.

Keep it going folks!

Rgds

Kirti

P.S. Continue sending me future themes ideas via PM.

Awesome theme... I really hope that such an episode is aired soon... Though looking at the commercial angle of the show, seems unlikely 😒

Here are the songs that come to my mind immediately.... The classical element varies to a degree in the songs...

Madhuban me Radhika naache re (who else but Abhaas)

Mose chhal kiya jaaye (Abhilasha - the perfect song for her to display the abhinaya)

Chaand Akela Jaaye Sakhi ri (Ishmeet)

Naino me badra chhaaye (I would have loved hearing it from Arshpreet... Now I would probably bet Priyani for the song)

O sajana, barkha bahaar aayi (Mirande)

Laaga chunri me daag (Harshit)

Bole re papihara (Sumitra - She can carry off this song very well if she tries)

Tere naina talaash kare jise (Irfaan)

Mere naina saawan bhaado (Toshi)

There are loads of other songs coming to my mind now.. I will probably come up with an alternate set as well...

Hey, Keerti, I was actually the first one to post a reply but for some reason it has not registered. 😕

Here are the songs I suggeted:

Saavan aaye ya na aaye - Dil diya dard liya - Abhilasha and Abhaas (it's a duet)
Chand akela - Alaap - but I picked Harshit for it
There is a song filmed on Mehmood posing as a teacher and Shubha Khote, that I love, whose words and film I am not sure of: Ajhun na aaye balma, saavan beeta jaye.

I seem to recall having written more earlier, but all I can remember of it is to urge people to contribute since the force of our thoughts seems to have some ability to influence themes on the program!

Astavakra, thank you for locating my song. I think Toshi should sing it.

I also had Kaun Aaya on the list I lost, and meant to add the song from Chashme Buddoor.

One of my great musical failings is an inability to recognize ragas (raaga lakshana it is called in Carnatic music). I can replicate but cannot identify. So Keerti, I cannot help at all with that.

I think that most songs are raga-based at one literal level. What makes the difference between a random song and one that we would consider in this category is that the choice of raga is conscious (which we can't know about) and that this is reflected in the use of the raga through the song, in the way that is consistent with the raga's own nature. Ragamalikas too reflect this conscious choice because the transitions between ragas have to be consistent and compatible. I can usually hear the transition but couldn't tell you from which one to which one. Sigh.

Here is help coming your way. While searching for classical/semi-classical songs in Hindi films i found this informative website which lists songs in Hindi films based on Raagas.

Hope it would be useful.

Awesome selections 👏
I hope Abhilasha sings Mose chal. I also suggested the song for her in the Dev Anand theme thread.

Great theme idea! Hope someone associated with the show reads the thread!
