Ganesh Chaturthi or Vinayak Chaturthi is one of the biggest and most important festivals of India. It is celebrated during Bhadrapada, the sixth month of the Hindu calendar. On this day Lord Ganesha was born and Hindus across the nation celebrate his birthday grandly for 10 days.

According to Hindu scriptures, one day Goddess Parvati was preparing to take a bath in her home in the Kailasha mountains. She wanted complete privacy hence built a little boy out of the turmeric paste she had applied on herself and gave him life. She named him Vinayak and asked him to stand outside the door and not let anyone in. When Lord Shiva reached there, Vinayak didn't let him in as per the instructions of his mother. Enraged, Lord Shiva beheaded him with his trident. Goddess Parvati was sad and demanded him make Vinayak alive. Lord Shiva inserted the head of a dead elephant demon named Gajasura into Vinayak's body and gave him a new life.

Celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi people build pandals in most of the streets, place idols of Lord Ganesha and worship them for 10 days. There are many places where huge pandals are erected and huge idols of Lord Ganesha are worshipped. People wear new clothes, visit temples, and do pooja. They even worship books on this day as Lors Ganesha is considered the God of Knowledge and Wisdom. A lot of sweet delicacies like Modak, and Ladoo which are Lord Ganesha's favorites are prepared and distributed among the devotees. On the 11th day, Ganesha idols are immersed in nearby rivers, ponds, or seas.

We Crazy Creatives wish you all a very Happy Ganesh Chaturthi!
