My main complaint about this show is how they minimised the role of ISI and failure of Indian government of that time.

The plane landed in Amritsar they had prior knowledge about it and yet couldn't prevent the plane fom leaving to Lahore and Khandahar. Once it left Indian soil the government had lost the game and had to release those psychopaths or rather personally escort them to Khandahar.

Whether it was Phulwama or IC814 Hijack the failure of the security system was never explored.

That is my main complaint about this and Phulwama as well.

The series highlights the lacunae in Indian system which is good. But they reduced the involvement of ISI to a trifle.

Nowhere the show shows that they were Pakistani citizens

Yes ISI role and the role of Pakistani connection was deliberately left unexplored.

Well ISI and Pakistan thrive on their animosity towards India so they will keep doing these things even if the people of their country are starving.

We Indians elect our leaders and pay taxes so that we get able leaders who govern us well and keep us safe from security threat posed by our neighbouring failed nation. That's why failure on the part of our elected leaders and security lapses bothers me more .

The show did not touch these aspects at all.

People when watching the show more bothered about trivial issues like name changes and not outraged at the failure on the part of the show i addressing ISI and our security system and leadership failures.

The show tried to project those hijackers as Afghan connected and trying to hide the Pakistani connections but did India have problem with Afghanistan or any other Islamic country at any time in the history? The show was trying to deny the Pakistan issue and trying to appease Pakistan and the some viewers are making this issue into Hindu - Muslim issue.

People need to get their priorities right

My 2 cents:

1. If a filmmaker is picking an actual occurrence or event to make a movie out of it, from the get go, it is:

a. With a clear agenda

b. In accordance with one's own perceptions and ideologies. Others' sentiments, beliefs and even truth be damned.

So, the film, in that capacity, is a re-writing history as per convenience and one's own interpretation under the garb of "Freedom of Expression".

2. When a film is made on history, an occurence or event, regardless of the platform, shouldn't there be a regulatory body consisting of certified experts for content review and strict enforcement of laws against offenders more so, serial offenders?

We are a young, intelligent and vibrant country. We deserve to know the rich heritage and valour we inherit.

Any movie, documentary, basically storytelling, anything that maligns the country and her ethos cannot be ignored as insignificant, ever.

I personally felt that the series was made as neutral as possible by keeping things realistic. Alias names were used, which were the actual aliases used during the incident. The series mostly covers the hijacking incident, so the terrorists couldnt call each other by their real names, which is why they never used real names in the series. Now, tell me, does this change the fact that they belong to pakistan and a particular region?? Obviously not.

Regarding the claims of whitewashing terrorists, the series attempted to depict the events as they happened. Some of the terrorists did show moments of kindness to the passengers, which is evident from the interview given by a lady to India Today Network. This behavior wasnt about compassion but rather a tactic to keep passengers calm. At the end of the day, the passengers lives were important to them until their demands were fulfilled. There is no whitewashing here because the bottom line is that they are terrorists who kill innocent people for no reason. Those who sympathize with them may need psychological help, similar to the woman who gave the interview, as they might be suffering from stockholm syndrome.

People often complain about everything, yet they overlook what has been actually rotting their minds for the past 20 years, Indian TV GECs with their crappy daily soaps. The impact of this netflix series is nowhere near compared to the damage these soaps have done over two decades. These shows often promote problematic narratives, yet neither the censor board nor the general audience raises concerns. For instance, Radha Krishna, a show that should have been banned, aired over 1,000 episodes where it distorted sacred stories to an extreme degree. And this is just one example, there are thousands of such shows slowly degrading the public’s mindset. The bigger issue is that GECs primary audience is older, less educated women who are easily influenced by these crappy soaps. Even before the rise of k soaps, our society didnt have a particularly progressive mindset and these shows have only pushed us further back. I strongly believe that these daily soaps are a significant factor in why India hasnt progressed as much as it should have.

Coming back to this Netflix series, i will say that Netflix's subscriber base is much more intelligent than the viewer base of linear GECs. They are, at the very least, more educated than GEC audiences and know who was behind the IC814 hijacking and who the real culprits were. For that reason, they dont need to watch the series to know the truth. In India, even a child can tell who is behind a terrorist attack, so by not exploring the ISI angle and hiding their real names, it wont make a big issue. The intelligence of Netflix's audience is proven by the controversy this series is facing. If they werent intelligent enough, we wouldnt have seen complaints filed against this series. But when it comes to GEC audiences, they arent intelligent enough to avoid being influenced by crappy daily soaps.

Netflix has around 12 million subscribers in India, and even with account sharing, its reach probably doesnt exceed 50 million people. In contrast, these subpar GECs reach almost a billion viewers daily, continuously feeding them content that regresses societal thinking. The impact of this Netflix series is minor in comparison. This Netflix series has only six episodes, people will watch it today and forget about it the next day. We should focus on banning content that truly holds us back over time.

@bold how do you know they were Pakistanis? Did the show mention it that they were Pakistani nationals? When they could show the last scene about them being some terrorists, then that they were Pakistanis could also have been shown.

@red, yes some did show moments of passion by helping clean overflowing washrooms? by making dialogues like "we don't have the luxury to see death as something horrific? Like hell you are the terrorist who kills people, obviously you won't see it horrific, how is that related to other being privileged?

Also if the intent was so much to show how the events happened, why wasn't the scene shown when those terrorists asked the passengers to covert to Islam? That also was the truth right? Why was that crucial part missed?

Also if not showing "ISI' angle wouldn't have changed much, not showing government officials doing much wouldn't have changed much either, why was that being shown?

People don't forget what they see today, you already gave the example of Radha Krishna, why do you think molesters like Karna are taken as some huge anti/fallen hero by most if not for these shows.

Saying wrong about something that old will not lead to so much wrong influence as of something which happened so recently that most of us have sharp memories of it

Is anyone really dumb enough to not know which country these terrorists belong to?? Like, really?? Even a kid can tell who is behind these incidents.

If these dialogues make you sympathize with those terrorists, then i have no words. The bottom line is they kill innocents and no normal person can actually sympathize with them just based on these dialogues and a few specific scenes. If people are sympathizing with those terrorists simply because of a few scenes of kindness, then they need mental therapy.

As for not showing the conversion to Islam angle, i think Netflix played it safe by not mentioning any particular religion. Netflix is a global player and mentioning a specific religion would obviously have a significant impact on them.

The series mostly revolves around what happened during the hijack incident on the plane and what was actually happening from the government's side.

How can saying something wrong about something old not lead to a strong negative influence when billions of people actually have their sentiments attached to those sacred gods and their stories??

Leaving aside Radha and Krishna, what about the other crappy daily soaps, saas-bahu dramas and love triangle shows, that have been rotting people's minds daily for the last 20 years?? They have caused more damage than this Netflix series ever will.

You think that even a kid can say which country the terrorists belonged to but Anubhav Sinha didn't say that. Instead he indicated that these were only Al Qaeda related people. Many who see the series will think they were Afghani or Talibanis. Not everyone reads books

And the people who are trying to give these terrorists a sympathetic touch doesn't need any therapy? Why are those lines needed?

Oh so when it came to show the names of terrorists, it was Ok to use the correct fake names although they are the ones of God of one religion, but when it came about showing an event of conversion, the one religion shouldn't have been highlighted?? Then they could have also used wrong fake names like say Raja and Sameer that could have made it religiously neutral right?? So use the correct fact when it comes to one Religious facts but ignore when about other religious facts

And OK even if Radha Krishna had a bad influence, that doesn't mean that other bad influence could be ignored. Two wrongs doesn't make a right.
