Netflix released their web show IC814 The Kadahar Hijack. It has created lot of controversy, so much so that Netflix content head was called to I&B ministry and had to issue clarification

Vir Sanghvi, who is regarded to be a leftist journalist, has written an article in Shekhar Gupta's theprint, which is a very much known leftist portal, about this controversy, criticising the Makers and Netflix for this show.

Netflix’s ‘IC 814’ is an expensive PR job for the ISI—shows R&AW torturing civilians

My problem is with the second element of the series: Its account of what happened on the ground. This is inaccurate, and often childish and silly.

It is also a lie. The deliberate evasions and inventions turn the whole show into an expensive PR job for the ISI.

A very important question at the end,

So forget all the Hindu-Muslim stuff. That’s just a social media red herring. Focus on the real question: Why did Netflix allow a whitewash job for the ISI to get made?

When Netflix tries to squeeze an actual horrifying, and sensitive event into a few hours of entertainment, it gets complicated!

He would have waited if he could. He was forced to fly without a second delay because highjackers had suspected

The only thing made wrong in the series is they diluted the role of ISI

But again while they did show the alias names used by terrorists, what was wrong to show their real names as well. Why only stick to the alias name. And agar wahi karna tha to they could have changed alias name as well

A very important recollection from someone who had inside view.

https://x.com/KanchanGupta/status/1830569646950420550?t=l0ViTrNDlSJHqtG-zylG2Q&s=19

Desperate calls were made to the officials at Raja Sansi Airport to somehow stall the refuelling and prevent the plane from taking off. The officials just failed to respond with alacrity. At one point, an exasperated Jaswant Singh, if memory serves me right, grabbed the phone and pleaded with an official, “Just drive a heavy vehicle, a fuel truck or a road roller or whatever you have, onto the runway and park it there.” But all this was to no avail.

smiley37 smiley37 Films on real incidents are made so that people come to know the story behind the events as it happened and find content at one place. Humare yahan pe films banti hai so that people have to put in extra efforts to know which part of it is true and which part of it is propaganda. smiley36

Two things which they did not emphasise were the role of ISI and massive security failure on the part of the Indian government.

I remmber reading all about this and followed this news regularly back then.

General public were outraged that the passengers on the flight did not put up any resistance and the flight crew team also was critisized by the public back then. Nobody knew what it is to be at the mercy of armed goons.

Don't understand the criticism about the names. In fact those were the names those hijackers used for themselves.

People have gotten into the habit of making big thing out of small things and ignoring the big things.
