In the South, we draw baby Krishna’s little feet in rice paste right from the front door up until the pooja room where a blob of butter would be waiting in a silver bowl for him to steal!
As he arrives at midnight, we do this late the previous night, and then pretend he’s partaken his share of the butter and left the rest as blessings for us. ☺️
The next day is spent gorging on a lavish spread of sweets and savouries and nothing else! It’s meant to be a ‘fast’ in the sense we don’t eat regular food on that day. Of course, that’s diminished now that everyone has gotten so health conscious, but when I was a kid, my mom and grandma would make so many varieties of sweets and snacks staying up until midnight. And we would demolish them the next day! Yum! 😋
