Hello History Forum members!

India is a land steeped in history, with each corner telling tales of bygone eras. Some of these places, however, come with a twist—stories of spirits, eerie occurrences, and haunted legends that send shivers down the spine. Today, let’s dive into some of these historically rich locations that are also famous for their supernatural occurrences.

☆ Bhangarh Fort, Rajasthan ☆

Known as one of the most haunted places in India, Bhangarh Fort is a 17th-century fort whose ruins tell a tale of a once-thriving kingdom. Local lore speaks of a curse placed by a magician who was spurned by the princess of Bhangarh, leading to its tragic downfall. The Archaeological Survey of India has even put up a sign prohibiting entry after sunset, further fueling the fort's eerie reputation.

☆ Shaniwarwada Fort, Pune ☆

This grand fort, constructed in 1732, has witnessed many historical events, including the rise and fall of the Peshwas. The tragic murder of a young prince within the fort's walls has led to tales of his anguished cries for help echoing through the fort, especially on full moon nights. Its mix of history and haunting makes it a fascinating place for history enthusiasts and paranormal explorers alike.

☆ Kuldhara Village, Rajasthan ☆

An abandoned village with a chilling story, Kuldhara was once a prosperous settlement of Paliwal Brahmins. According to legend, the villagers deserted the village overnight to escape the tyrannical rule of a local ruler, cursing the land as they left. Today, Kuldhara stands as a desolate ghost village, with stories of paranormal activities adding to its mystique.

☆ Morgan House, Kalimpong, West Bengal ☆

One of the most famous haunted places in Kalimpong, a serene hill station in West Bengal, is the Morgan House, a colonial bungalow built in the 1930s by an English couple, Mr. and Mrs. Morgan. The house, now managed by the West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation, is known for its old-world charm but also carries with it an unsettling reputation. According to local legend, Mrs. Morgan died under mysterious circumstances, and her spirit is said to haunt the house. Guests who have stayed at the Morgan House have reported hearing footsteps echoing through the hallways, furniture being mysteriously rearranged, and a chilling presence that seems to watch over them. Some say that Mrs. Morgan's spirit lingers in the house, unable to move on from her tragic past. Despite these stories, the Morgan House remains a popular destination for tourists, especially those intrigued by the supernatural occurrences. Its historical significance, coupled with its eerie reputation, makes it a must-visit for anyone interested in exploring the spookier side of Kalimpong.

☆ Agrasen ki Baoli, Delhi ☆

Nestled in the heart of bustling Delhi, Agrasen ki Baoli is an ancient stepwell with a history that dates back to the times of the Mahabharat. Despite its beauty and architectural significance, it is believed to be haunted, with some visitors reporting a strange, unsettling feeling as they descend its steps. The deep, dark waters are said to possess a hypnotic quality, luring people into the well..

These are just a few of the many haunted historical places in India that have captured the imagination of locals and visitors alike.

Now over to you! Have you ever visited any of these places? Or perhaps there’s another haunted historical site you’ve explored that isn’t on this list, either in India or maybe outside India too. If you haven't visited any, which one would you be most interested in exploring? Share your experiences, thoughts, and which places are on your bucket list!

Looking forward to your spooky tales and historical insights!

I would love to visit all these places 🤩 of course only during daytime. 😆 I am a history lover and spooky haunted historical places always fascinate him.

I remember one such incident from my childhood which I think is kinda spooky. When I was in 7th std. we had visited Daulatabad fort in Maharashtra. We were coming down the stairs and I was the last one from my group. Suddenly my leg slipped and just then I felt a hand on my arm. When I looked behind there was no one but if that hand hadn't held my arm I would have surely fallen down and broke my leg. I don't know whether I should call it spooky or not. I am still confused about it but I must say, that fort is beautiful.

I'm also a history lover and would love to visit all these places 🤩. Unfortunately, I've never been there. If the walls could talk, they would have a lot to tell about times gone by. It would be exciting to walk through these places, imagine what happened there, how people lived there and hear the stories about these haunted places. I believe there are things between heaven and earth that we can't grasp and explain.

I have visited Bhangarh fort, we visited it after 6:30 in the evening, gates were closed at 6 but we requested the guard and he allowed us to enter, I don't think it is a haunted site or something, it's more about the fear than a ghost I guess

I've been to Shaniwar wada and took a picture in front of the infamous Narayan darwaza. Nothing spooky about it smiley36

What really scared me was the sight of Tower of London. I had read that many guards had witnessed a beheaded Anne Boleyn walking around carrying her head in her arms at night. The hotel I was staying at had a huge window facing the palace and it really spooked me out smiley36

I slept with the curtains closed and lights on during the entire stay!
