Well now this is complicated. If you ask spiritually, then the ancient sages had the power to foresee future. Valmiki ji knew what will happen even before events of Ramayana happened. Everything is predetermined, it's only the way to reach which makes the journey. The movement of starts has all recorded, that is the basis of Bhrigu Samhita. It is said to contain the life history of everyone who was ever born and who will ever be born .

However if you take in as academic discussion, those were just prophecies made by past sages, some will turn true some will turn false.

Yeah i guess they were able to see the future which is insane and a cool power cause if you know how things are going to end up then you don't have to stress throughout the journey of life
