I totally get that. I mean how else you're going to engage the readers if you can't put in twists and such. But see this is the perk of writing on a forum.

You know how CVs unnecessarily lengthen the plot for TRPs and such? A writer on a forum doesn't have to. End the story on a good note, put in an epilogue and that's that.

Like I said, don't push yourself. This is supposed to be a stress buster for you. Not a forced obligation. And as a reader I'll always support and enjoy your writing. However you write. Let yourself run wild 😍

Ps. Did I tell you how I loved that scene with Arjun's brother and the teamπŸ˜‚ Also loved how perceptive he was to figure out that Riya and Rathore has different dynamics with Arjun.

PART TWO

.

.

.

.

.

Koi hero yahan, koi zero yahan

Koi star hai, koi bekaar hai

Koi hero yahan, koi zero yahan

Koi star hai, koi bekaar hai

Main kaun hoon tumse main kya kahoon

Hai sach to yeh doston, oh

I am the best, I am the best

I am the best

............

I am the best, I am the best

I am the best

Ayush glared at the creature that was upside down on the couch, his head resting on the stock of cushions.

The bucket of popcorn and his laptop were resting on his chest. All around him, though, were a few papers. He was playing with a ballpoint pen in his fingers.

"What on earth are you doing, Adi?"

He asked, but the volume of the music prevented Adarsh from hearing him.

Doston mujhe tum dekh lo

Main number ek hoon, koi kaam ho

Tez hoon, bada smart hoon

Main phir bhi nek hoon, yeh tum bhi kaho

"Adi...."

Adarsh was engrossed in the lyrics while poor Ayush yelled.

Kisi ne yeh kiya, kisi ne woh kiya

Koi yeh ban gaya, koi woh ban gaya

Main kaun hoon tumse main kya kahoon

Hai sach to yeh doston, oh

I am the best, I am the best

I am the best

........

"I am the best, I am the best....."

"I am the best....."

Adarsh stopped as soon as he heard his awful voice, devoid of lyrics and music, reverberating throughout the room.

Glancing around, he noticed an irate Ayush standing close to the tape recorder.

"Your Majesty! Would you please take the time to respond to me?"

The room echoed with the sardonic voice of Ayush.

"When, though, did you ask anything?"

A confused Adarsh looked at him.

"When you were busy enjoying this ear-piercing music."

Ayush taunted.

In response, Adarsh rolled his eyes.

"Drop the question and let me focus."

"What are you even doing?"

"You were here to assist me with so-called-surprised party planning. Do you even remember?"

"That's what I am doing my dumbo friend."

Stated Adarsh.

Ayush, on the other hand, squinted at him.

"How? By watching Kal ho na ho and being a couch potato?"

Glancing down at the laptop screen, Ayush arched an eyebrow at him.

"Nope, you idiot. Can't you see I am seeking ideas?"

He shoved the popcorn into his mouth.

"What are you up to Adi?"

There were obvious doubts in Ayush's voice.

"What SRK was up to in Kal ho na ho."

"Adarsh my dearest friend, you remember na that Kal ho na ho is a super emotional movie."

Ayush attempted to instill some rationality in his mind.

"Indeed, but really, who cares? Just concentrate on the main idea."

"And what is the major idea here?"

Ayush stared at him, unable to make sense of anything.

"Chein din Larki in."

Adarsh's thrilled voice rang around the room.

"Oh, I see. Hold on, what?"

Ayush was certain he must have misheard.

"Six days and the girl will fall for you. Only six days."

Excitement filled Adarsh's words.

"That's what you get from the whole damn movie."

With utter disbelief, he looked at him.

"Yes, but the plan has a little bit changed here."

Adarsh said.

"How?"

Still not understanding what was going on around him, Ayush questioned.

"Larki is already in so we want the Larka to be in."

Adarsh began to enlighten him. However, Ayush's brain cells wanted to commit suicide while listening to his best friend's twisted words.

"So the plan is, Chein din Larka in. Six days and the boy will fall for you. Only six days."

The excitement on his face was as if he had found a jackpot.

"What have you done with Kal ho na ho?"

The explanation caused trauma to Ayush.

But Adarsh gave him an "I know I am the best" expression, as though he had accomplished something amazing.

"Please, God, save me."

Ayush prayed, not knowing what was about to happen.

Hurt......

Yeah, that's what she felt.

His indifferent behavior. His lack of concern. His not-so-welcoming attitude. His chilly demeanor. His unfamiliar gaze.

Her heart was inscribed with every small gesture of him.

Her thoughts drifted to the one person who appeared to be an unfulfilled wish, an unattainable dream, and an endless journey as she stared up at the night sky.

He appeared so distant already. Furthermore, an entire damn year had passed between them.

She sighed in dissatisfaction.

"Riyaaa......"

She snapped out of her reverie at the sound of Shree's voice.

She watched as he came into the room, both hands full of shirts.

"Yar, take a look at these shirts. What should I wear?"

He spread the shirts out on the bed and showed her each one in turn.

"Riya, Shree, you guys are not ready yet. We are getting late yar."

Chotu also came inside and hurled the statement, glancing at the two of them as they stood there in their casual attire

She could tell they both were very delighted to attend the party and she didn't want to kill their excitement but she couldn't help.

"Guys I am not coming."

"Why?"

At the question, three of them spun around to see Rathore waiting at the door. Shree & Chotu glanced back at Riya for an answer who seemed reluctant.

"You didn't answer."

He walked a few steps inside and asked.

"I.....I am not feeling well."

Fidgeting with her fingers she replied hesitantly.

Three of them looked at each other trying to grab the hidden reason behind her words.

Although Shree & Chotu wanted to ask further, after one glare from Rathore they closed their mouth instantly.

"Okay."

With a narrowed gaze, Rathore refrained from arguing with her.

"Both of you, you had ten minutes. When the allotted time expires, I want you guys outside."

Upon glancing at his watch, Rathore said, and the next moment he saw Shree had picked up his shirts and was hurrying to his room, dragging Chotu with him to get assistance in selecting an outfit.

Rathore dismissed their antiques with a shake of his head.

When Adarsh expressed skepticism about these two being police officers, he was not wrong.

He muttered.

Nonetheless, Riya's countenance lit up with a small smile as she recalled the one who was a replica of his elder brother.

Rathore gave her a final look and then departed the room.

At that moment, her phone rang. She looked at the caller ID confused as an unknown number flashed on the screen.

DAY 1

Adarsh marked the date on the calendar and adjusted his blazer before coming out of the room.

"Hello, hello.......Adarsh to Ayush...Come in, please.....Adarsh to Ayush...Come in please....."

He spoke as he adjusted the airpod in his right ear.

On the other hand, Ayush rolled his eyes at the voice that emerged from the air pod fitted perfectly in his ear and spoke,

"I am there."

"Alpha, Bravo, Charlie.....I read you soldier...."

Adarsh said.

Ayush felt like hitting his head against the wall.

Man, why in the world am I doing this?

He asked himself but his heart knew he had no other choice. He had done this to himself by being Adarsh's best friend and now there is no going back.

Adarsh stepped into the hallway and took a look around.

His gaze stopped on Arjun who was standing in a corner, feigning to be occupied with his phone, but Adarsh could see that his brother's eyes were nearly focused on the door.

As he watched ETF members come inside, he noticed a gleam in Arjun's eyes.

"They have arrived."

He muttered.

"I can see."

The other side echoed with Ayush's irritated voice.

"Bhai is going towards them."

"Just shut up Adi. For God's sake, I had two eyes not buttons yar."

Adarsh grinned at annoyed Ayush who was standing on the other corner of the hall.

_____________________

In one of the corners, he stood alone.

He usually stays away from parties. Years had passed since he had cut himself off from the outside world, but today he felt the need to step outside of his comfort zone.

He thought he had shut his heart but one look at a certain girl and he felt like the walls he had made around him were crumbling, and the light was slowly seeping in, removing the darkness and illuminating his heart.

He tried to concentrate on the device he was holding, but all he could see was the entrance.

Yes, his former teammates were scheduled to arrive, and he was supposed to be present to greet them. That is what manners are all about.

Yeah, that's how he reasoned himself as if he had been following the moral compass all his life.

He was mocked by his inner voice, but he chose to ignore it.

The instant he saw the ETF members walk in, his train of thought was broken.

He involuntarily moved toward them as his eyes glistened, but the sparkle quickly faded when he realized the one for whom his heart was longing was missing among them.

She didn't come.

His heart sank from just thinking that one thing.

Suddenly, there was no longer any desire to be present at the party. It seemed as though he no longer wanted to be there.

He stopped dead in his tracks and turned to go, tossing all the manners into the dustbin.

Upon realizing his brother's next move, Adarsh's eyes widened.

Oh no..... In an instant, he nearly dashed in Arjun's direction and leaped in front of him.

"What the heck are you doing?"

He asked.

"I mean where are you going?"

He rephrased his question as soon as he saw Arjun's agitated expression.

"This party does not interest me. It's your day enjoy yourself."

Arjun gave a flat response.

"Since your interest had not shown up at the party, why would you be interested?"

Muttering to himself, he looked at three of the cops who had just walked in without the one whose absence was bothering his quite not-so-expressive brother.

"Did you say something?"

Arjun narrowed his eyes at him.

"Yeah, I was saying your teammates are there. Wouldn't you like to meet them?"

Adarsh attempted to persuade him.

"You invited them. You should entertain them."

He expressed irritation.

"By the way how horrible your invitation was. At least you should have invited them all."

Arjun lashed out at him.

"I did, however, invite everyone."

He put on an innocent front.

With a glare, Arjun looked at him as if it was Adarsh's fault that Riya didn't appear at the party.

Anger, irritation, and disappointment, all these feelings were bubbling inside him.

Just then everyone approached them.

"Happy Birthday Adarsh."

Rathore said forwarding a present towards him.

Adarsh smiled in return.

"Thanks for coming. I assume that one of your team members is missing, by the way."

Looking at Arjun with a sidelong glance, he inquired.

"She refused to come."

Arjun snapped at Rathore's words.

She refused to come.

She didn't want to meet him.

That's what he comprehends from this sentence.

He squeezed his hand tightly. His anger was building, though he was not sure why.

Why did her presence matter to him?

"Hey, Adarsh."

He was greeted one by one by Shree and Chotu. Adarsh was almost going to smile in return but he was startled by their next move.

"Happy Birthdayyy....."

They let out a collective yell and embraced him tightly.

Not again......

Adarsh made futile attempts to break free.

These two nonserious officers were adamant about crushing at least one of the Rawtes and he wouldn't let it happen.

Adarsh vowed.

"Bhai please help...."

He nearly yelled, startling Arjun.

"Shree, Chotu stop behaving like kids."

As soon as they heard Arjun's irate tone, they immediately backed off, receiving his reprimand.

"Grow up."

He was on the verge of shouting.

It's not like he was angry at them, it's just that he just felt like quarreling with everyone.

"And you as well."

He said glaring at Adarsh who put his index finger to his chest in pure disbelief.

Arjun scoffed at his drama-loving younger brother.

"Indeed, you... I don't understand why your hyperactive mode is always on?"

His voice was oozing with frustration.

Adarsh was amused by how his brother was losing his calm just because of the absence of one certain being.

"Oh, please, bhai, remember that not everyone is like you."

He said playing further.

"What does the phrase "like me" mean?"

Arjun being Arjun was ready to pounce back.

"Always furious, constantly yelling at your teammates, and consistently disregarding their emotions....."

Adarsh was very deliberate about choosing his words.

"Riya decided not to come to this party, possibly as a result of your behavior."

With his arm wrapped around Arjun's shoulder, he spoke.

It was unheard by anyone, but Ayush could hear every word through the earpiece.

"You are being ignored by her, Bhai."

Adarsh added his two cents.

Arjun looked at him to which Adarsh blinked his eyes twice as if saying trust me.

"Shut up Adi....."

Angrily, Arjun pushed his hand away and moved on.

Don't know why but he was getting annoyed, annoyed, and just annoyed about every little thing.

Adarsh grinned at his reaction.

"I saw what you did there."

Approaching him, Ayush said.

With a proud expression on his face, Adarsh cleared the invisible dust off his shoulders and began to sing.

Mujh mein hai ajab jaadugari

Ke mujhsa charming koi hai kahan

Kya karoon hai deewani meri

Kahe mujhe darling sabhi ladkiyaan

Keeping up with the lyrics, he began to groove.

Koi aisa yaha, koi vaisa yahan

Magar koi nahin mere jaisa yahan

Main kaun hoon tumse main kya kahoon

Hai sach to yeh doston, oh

I am the best, I am the best

I am the best.....

"Such a self-obsessed you are."

Shaking his head, Ayush dragged him out of there.

___________________________

He could witness the annoyed behavior of his elder brother. He was getting angry about little things. He was shouting without any reason. Every single person seemed to be on his hit list.

And it was enough for Adarsh to clear the little bit of doubts in his mind.

He was now sure that a certain research specialist was the sole reason for this outburst of his brother.

So someone was there in this world who could ignite emotions in this almost stone heart of Arjun Suryakant Rawte.

Adarsh smiled glancing at Arjun from afar.

It had been a year since Arjun returned home but he was changed. He was not the one who left some years ago. It seemed like he came back with a different personality.

Adarsh always found him lost in his thoughts, uninterested in his surroundings, deprived of any emotion.

But last night, it was for the first time in this whole damn year that he witnessed something unusual in his brother's eyes.

Those blank eyes were not blank anymore and that was enough cue for him to step into his brother's not-so-exciting life and make things dynamic.

His thoughtful gaze shifted towards Rathore who was trying to engage in a conversation with Arjun but it was of no use because he looked annoyed and disinterested.

Absence of one person and he had lost all his interest in everything around him.

Adarsh shook his head at this thought and again focused on Rathore.

ACP Sameer Rathore seemed altogether a different chapter to Arjun's life.

He thought looking at the person whose eyes showed loss, disappointment, and regret.

"Too many things to sort out."

Adarsh sighed and took his steps towards them.

In the next moment, he was found convincing Arjun to help ETF on the ongoing case.

"It's not possible."

Arjun denied.

"But Bhai that club had most of the orders from Ayush's father's cafe. I already had got into trouble once. You should find out what's happening there."

Well, that was not a solid reason but Rathore also wanted Arjun to be with them at least until they were here.

Maybe he could apologize to him in that way.

So he found this idea quite effective.

However, he was unable to understand Adarsh's odd interest in the case but still to his benefit he also took his part to convince Arjun.

"He is right. At least you can help."

Rathore interjected.

"See, at least now you should say a yes."

Adarsh made it sound like a proposal adding to his irritation.

"Okay fine."

Arjun said putting an end to the conversation.

"How are you feeling Bhai?"

Arjun glared at him who had asked this question for the umpteenth time adding to his annoyance.

"Tell me na, how it feels to be ignored by your colleague?"

Since the party had ended, Adarsh had made a mockery of Riya's absence to annoy Arjun.

"Will you just shut up Adi?"

He gave him a death glare but Adarsh being Adarsh kept on irritating him.

Ignore Ignore Ignore

Since last night, this word had been playing in his head in a loop.

Just because of Adarsh who had made sure to register in his mind that the great Arjun Suryakant Rawte had been successfully ignored by his former colleague Riya Mukherjee.

Like seriously.......

This younger brother of his was messing with his brain and on top of that he had convinced him to help ETF on the case.

He had no idea why he agreed but he did........

Picking up his wallet & keys he came out of the house leaving behind a grinning Adarsh.

After almost half an hour he found himself standing outside the Dehli Police Head Quarters unaware of the fact that someone had been keeping an eye on him from a distance.

If you have a broad look at the surroundings you could see a figure afar wearing a white T-shirt with a denim jacket over blue jeans. He had a P-cap perfectly positioned on his head. His hands had a box of brownies.

"He arrived there."

He muttered as he put his index finger on the airpod in his ear.

On the other hand, Adarsh marked DAY 2 on the calendar and said,

"Alpha, Bravo, Charlie. I read you, soldier."

Ayush wanted to slam his head but he couldn't help.

This friendship had turned him into a stalker. God knows what else he had to do next.

"He went inside."

He notified Adarsh.

"Go behind him."

Adarsh immediately spoke up.

"What?"

Ayush enquired.

"Go behind him, you idiot. You are not there to admire the exterior of the building."

A restless Adarsh spoke.

Shooking his head, and praying to God Ayush was seen standing in front of the guard, convincing him to enter inside, introducing himself as a delivery boy.

The guard allowed him to enter after Ayush waved to Chotu as he was passing by at that precise moment.

He pretended to go after setting the brownies in front of Chotu, claiming it to be ordered by Arjun.

No doubt Chotu's happiness had no bounds and in his excitement, he didn't notice Ayush who sneaked inside.

A pretty difficult task though.

____________________

Within a few minutes, they all gathered inside a room to discuss the case.

She felt something strange as she stuffed the papers into the file. Something in the air has changed. There was something familiar about this wind today.

She spun around and momentarily froze in place. He was standing there dressed as usual.

Some things never changed.

She thought to herself.

Looking at each other an awkward silence prevailed among them.

No one uttered a word.

Standing up, Shree and Chotu wished him a good morning. He gave a reciprocal nod.

However, his mind tends to notice only one thing she didn't even wish him good morning.

"You are being ignored by her, Bhai."

Adarsh's voice once again rang in his ears.

What the heck Yar!!!

Once again he felt agitated.

She looked at him confused who appeared irritated.

I didn't even say anything.

She thought and shot him a wounded glance. The hurt in her eyes perplexed him.

Rathore came in at that precise moment to tell them that Arjun was involved in the case.

The expression on Shree & Chotu's faces was pure joy. Riya's expression, though, revealed nothing about her inner self.

Did she not feel happy?

That was all he could think of.

Rathore began to give commands, shaking him out of his reverie. While the others took their seats, Shree got up to give him a detailed explanation of the case.

Instantaneously, Arjun's ACP mode activated.

"Shree investigates those who visit that club regularly."

Examining the file, he remarked. His fingers, though, kept fiddling with the pen.

As the few moments passed, flipping the pages he felt a familiar aroma around him.

He looked up and saw her setting a cup of tea down in front of him.

Some things never changed.

He thought as he managed to hide the involuntary smile that broke out on his face behind the file.

Meanwhile, a bewildered Ayush was hiding behind the stack of files and making a concerted effort to watch Arjun.

However, Adarsh's instructions were constantly reverberating on the opposite side.
