Imad Wasim blamed players’ fear of failure for not being able to compete against the top teams of the world.

“The problem is our team is so good, our players are so good, that we are good enough to play any kind of cricket. We haven’t tried that but the thing is you have to try that, you have to get rid of the fear of failure. In everything – batting, bowling, fielding, you have to get rid of fear of failure.

“Personnel change doesn’t change anything, just changing the mindset can change a lot of things. The same ball can be hit for a six, a four, a single, and that same ball can take a wicket and be a dot ball.

 Rain threat looms

Ireland are the only team without a win in Group A and they will be inspired to sign off with their account opened, riding on Pakistan's lack of confidence, their trait of being fallible at crucial stages and a unified effort. But all that will come to fore only if the rain stays away to allow play to happen as Florida has witnessed a flood-like station amid heavy downpour in the last few days. In fact, co-hosts USA's unexpected qualification happened only after their contest here against Ireland was washed out, which had also ensured Pakistan's exit in the first round.

Irish look for a final laugh

With arch-rivals India and USA sealing the two spots for the Super Eight stage from Group A, Pakistan have been confined to some introspection and relook at their T20 game. But before all that, Babar's side will have to first thwart the Irish challenge. Ireland had beaten Pakistan comprehensively in a bilateral game in days leading to the T20 World Cup and the contest — if at all it happens — could see both the teams in green fighting hard for a final laugh.

  • The 2 teams will look to salvage some pride after early exit from T20 World Cup
  • Ireland and Pakistan have been knocked out from the tournament

The Pakistan team will look to salvage some pride as they take on Ireland in the last match of the Group A encounter, which also happens to be their last match of the T20 World Cup 2024. The match will be played at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill in Florida on June 16, Sunday. Pakistan and Ireland have been knocked out of the marquee tournament as they failed to qualify for the Super 8 stage. The 2 teams had earlier met in a 3-match T20I series and Ireland did manage to take the Pakistan team by surprise.

Pakistan and losing to minnows in big tournaments isn't new! They lost to Bangladesh in the 1999 WC. Lost to Ireland in the 2007 WC. Then lost to Zimbabwe in the last T20 World Cup '22 and were outsmarted by USA in this edition '24.

Ireland on the other hand could have done better. They lost to Canada and were thwarted by India.

Stats:

Ireland batters have collectively registered a staggering 175 single-digit scores (excluding not-outs) in 54 T20Is since January 2022, which is exceeded only by Rwanda (342), Uganda (217) and Tanzania (191) i.e fourth among the 98 teams
