what is cricket?

Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams, each consisting of eleven players, on a circular field with a rectangular 22-yard-long pitch at the center. Originating in England, cricket is now a widely popular sport played and followed in many countries, particularly in the Commonwealth nations.

The objective of the game is to score more runs than the opposing team. This is achieved by batting, where one team's players attempt to hit the ball and score runs, while the other team's players (the bowlers and fielders) try to prevent this and dismiss the batsmen.
