Only cast based reservation of seats is an injustice to the student, who works hard to score higher marks. He doesn't get seat because a significant quota is given for cast based students, even if he scores much less. There are many such cases, happening every year.

Even in government jobs, similar scenario is repeated every year. Cast based recruitment, with lesser merit compared to others leaves bad taste for others. They always discuss among each other.

In both cases no one is happy. So it's better to cancel caste based reservation & give benifit to people of financially weak section. Work towards uplifting them.

Every scheme should be regularly revised after some years. Non working plans should be canceled. After all govt gets money from tax payer. They should be consulted while allocating funds for such plans. Am sure they'll give much better ideas. After all, we all want development of our country by uplifting deserving people based on merit.

i think reservations of any kind are a bad idea. Direct cash transfers to the poor, irrespective of caste and religion, is the way to go. Food grants that the Modi govt has been doling out is another way, though it costs a lot and ordinary tax payers have to bear the brunt implicitly. Mnrega was also a good idea, but it's time has past now- after all, how many more ditches can those workers dig.

@bold ngl for me when I am debating/discussing with someone, I always look forwards to hear the other person's point. It is interesting to me when someone is giving me information on why they believe xyz. It feels like playing sudoku. I do not even know you so there is nothing you can say which would make me angry. It is easy to say xyz is an idiot, I can do that too but it doesn't lead to any proper discussions.

I am too lazy to come with a mid id smiley36 but if you feel it was me, feel free to believe that smiley36

Oh i dont think it was you... and frankly i couldnt care less. We are all anonymous and i like that. So i could be a rich hedge fund manager and not have to bother about people hitting on me for a job. Or a good looking guy having to ward off the females. Kidding of course?smiley2smiley36

Exactly smiley36 And the major thing I love about IF is that we are all anonymous but we also have rules so we can say things we want even if we are an introvert but nothing in a really harsh way(because of the rules)

I can say I grew up on IF 😂

Modi is OBC and if he has wealth then he will not be getting any reservation because of creamy layer. If this changes in for his future generations, I do not mind them getting reservation.

Yes, the creamy layer concept is intended to exclude the more affluent and better-off members of the OBCs from reservation benefits so why not have the same rule for SC/ST too? The criteria set by the government is an annual income above INR 8 lakh and/or group A / group B officers in government and public sector. There's a process of verification of income and other criteria for OBCs. It is the responsibility of the concerned authorities to ensure that individuals who fall under the creamy layer are not granted reservation benefits.

I understand historical discrimination but at some point we have to get to the present and see what's working and what's not working and put in place some time bound rules. They tried balancing social justice and meritocracy but they also need to have some hard "deadlines". Right now, there is no end in sight. There need to be some milestones for socio-economic progress and a phased out dependence on reservations that are purely based on caste.

Sadly we cannot say that the discrimination happened in the past and not right now. Dalits are killed for owning horse/house. This is because, the discrimination is not just based on economic status.

This is a comic I think which explains things very well, I am sharing it here too.

I am not against creamy layer, I just think that we need to make sure there is no casteism in society and sc/st needs a lot of uplifting before it is brought into effect. These stigmas in society makes it harder for even Dalit people with wealth to struggle in society. The GDP will increase with consumption but if we do not care of the underprivileged people, we will end up being a rich country with poor people.

your prescriptions are exactly what Imran Khan, padosi mulk's ex PM, had ordered. He wanted to create a mecca medina, another socialist state. He ended up creating a basket case of a country. The same has been true of the russian experience, of the chinese too till they opened up in the 70s.

problem with reservations is we admit, hire and promote incompetent characters. In a competitive world, the standard of the universities suffer, the economy suffers, and eventually you don't have money in the economy to pay for all the budge-busting cuckoo schemes the socialists dreamt up. Ends up helping no one.

unfortunately for India, we have entered a stage of competitive socialism. Each party is promising to outdo the other when it comes to budget-busting reservations and to freebies. If BJP doesn't do, they lose to a moron like pappu who has already promised the moon because everything is his baap ka maal. And so we go on. It leaves less money to create sustainable productive capacity for the long term than we would have had otherwise. We keep feeding them meals instead of putting them on the path to constructive lifelong work on their own. So instead of taking 20 years to reach a certain development stage, it would take 100 if that.

It's amazing that on IF in the 21st century we have takers of this failed intellectual idea. It's good in romance novels, bad in real life.

You are bundling caste based crimes with caste based rewards. There is a legal framework to deal with caste based crimes. There is PoA act under which the government is required to set up special courts to expedite the trial of cases involving atrocities against SCs and STs. Monitoring and vigilante committees include government officials as well as members of SCs and STs.

If the system is not working as well as it should, make the penalties for offenders more stringent and run more awareness campaigns and support services. Reservations is not the answer to caste based crime problem. Enforcement of law is. Otherwise, most people would support a policy that has economically weaker sections belonging to any caste have a certain percentage (high single digits to low double digits) reserved for them in education and government jobs because most people can relate to poverty.

^ lol, you're barking up the wrong tree, bud.smiley2

no one denied that green revolution transformed farming back then and punjab was the bread basket. Too bad, they got addicted to free electricity, to free water.... and didn't get on with the times. They did not feel the need to innovate, having a large captive Indian market all for themselves.

By the way, no one was complaining while they were making money and getting rich. The fact that there are harmful pesticides has been known for a long time... but these characters kept on with their stupid ways. Even today, we all know that stubble burning is polluting and harmful to health. Do these characters listen? No! Every winter, these guys are up to the same thing, sending high levels of pollutants into the air across multiple states. They are too selfish to spend a little extra money to get rid of the stubble without burning. After all that, you come along to blame hindus. Some nerve!

By the way, it's the same fat- cat behavior that drove them to protesting the farm reform bills. It would have actually been good for most farmers, including punjabi farmers. But those protest leaders were too cynical to let that happen because it would have cut them out as middlemen.

and yeah, I know a thing or two about farming. Actually more than you! I own a 6 acre farm in the heart of south delhi, and I have my guys do organic sustainable farming. It took me just 7 years working to get there!

now, go create new IDs to abuse and threaten. This is what khalistanis do.
