Heard that this was the first time in so many years of yeh rishta that festival special gangaur episodes didn't fetch numbers and shahi lost money by spending a lot on these sequences to make it grand

Yes at this moment - Surya is definitely a better ML than other SP leads. Whatever be the fate of the show I am really glad that both Agastya and Surya were good characters and Sai absolutely nailed both the characters.

Yes. And never on a single day he and the writers made us feel that any similarity between Agastya and Surya. That is the beauty. Both are good characters. I prefer Agastya more because he was flawed, still endearing. Never toxic at all. But Surya isn't far away in the list.
