She realized she was turning bright red under the scrutiny of his eyes. He just raised an eyebrow as an amused smile broke out on his face.
“Just cleaning out the chai stain” she muttered nervously
“Sure” he nodded, just standing there
“I was just umm… you know being silly, putting them face down like that”
“Oh?” his expression was serious, his eyes though, twinkling
“I didn’t know, this was your bathroom”
“It isn’t” he lied back
“Oh? Good… Oh so the toys belong to Kunal?”
“No Kruti’s”
Didn’t know who was going to bust who first, but both played along quietly
“Does Kruti shave?” she demanded breathlessly
“Did you expect her to have her own private bathroom?” he countered
“You win” she muttered
“Couldn’t hear it… what did u say?” he leaned forward
“Umm.. nothing, you are right, she doesn’t shave” she smiled
“True”
He just stood there, as if it was his right to trap her in the bathroom
“I am done”
“Were you going to come back and stand the toys up?
“Umm.. no…”
“Just let them suffocate?”
“No…. I mean, I can do it now”
She spent a good two minutes fixing the 18 or 20 figurines
Shore…. This is not your room” she thought to herself, it totally is your room”
She rearranged the order, mischievously
“Bas?”
“You’ve got the order of 7 of them wrong… but”
“Are you SERIOUS?” she looked at him shocked, running her fingers through her hair
“You asked remember?”
“Maajhi chook” (my fault)
He laughed
“I have to go teach” she told him abruptly trying to get past him
“You can fix it when you are done”
“Mujhe YAAD nahi hai Neel” she scowled
They were inches from each other in the open bathroom doorway
“I can share pictures”
“TO YEH tumhari hai na?”
“Nope” he smiled slowly
“JHOOOTHE ho” she said walking away
He leaned on the wall hands tucked into his pockets and smiled slowly
She didn’t look at him the rest of the session, he passed by a couple times, showered and in clean clothes
When she finished she quickly packed up her stuff, Kunal was not a pest today, her heart was hammering, Suhasini was in the kitchen and on the phone, Dad was not home yet with Kruti
She took the tea cup to the sink, Suhasini had made her another chai
Just as she whispered a hurried good bye to a distracted Kunal walking away from the living room
She sped to the door, leaping foot steps
He held the door knob
“Rearrange the collectibles Pankaja” he whispered, collecting on his debt
“NEEEL” she whispered back turning back to check if anyone was watching them
He had put his hand over hers on the door knob
“No absolutely not”
“A teacher that fails to uphold her promise…. Wow” he goaded her
“Better than a grown man who collects superheroes” she smirked
Thankfully Shankar Rao opened the door, just as Indraneel was ready to pin her to the door
She ran as fast as she could flushed and disoriented
