speculation was the officers were spying for Israel. Dont know whether that's true but irrespective, this is not the first time countries have caught foreign spies. India has caught 46 ISI agents since 2013, but it has never sentenced anyone to death. Pak has sentenced 1 (Kulbushan Jadhav). After serving a lengthy prison sentence, the foreign spies have been released and many of them now live in India.

qatar's announcing the verdict now probably has something to do with India's support for Israel after the Oct 7th terror attack by hamas. Qataris are in bed with hamas and perhaps trying to send a signal and arm-twist India's foreign policy. The fact they did not announce the charges means they want to deal because if they had made the charges public about spying for Israel, it would have aroused passions there, and killed any possibility of a deal.

The Qataris should not succeed. Our giving in to blackmail is just a recipe to get them to repeat this stuff. They could nab any innocent character and slap charges on him. India should let the Thanis know their fat arse will get blasted into outer space if they do anything. We got a nuke-armed pak to release Abhinandan. Qatar kya cheez hai.
