Margazhi Poove from May Maadam, music by A.R. Rahman. Sung by Shobha Shankar. Based on raagam Hindolam (Malkauns)

This is early Rahman and he was untouchable then imo. He did such innovative stuff - like this little fusion of Suprabhatam he does before the song begins. Brilliance! Where has that Rahman gone?

I loved this! Mannadey is always a pleasure to listen to  and though I don't understand a word, the tune brings forth the carefree and joyous spirit that the song is supposed to reflect. Thanks for tag, T!

Who's the actor? He reminds me so much of Victor Banerjee.

Glad you enjoyed listening to the song. This is one of the songs my dad hums when he is in a singing mood 😆

The actor is Soumitra Chatterjee. He is very famous in Bengal, almost like Rajnikant.

Oh damn. Of course, I'm familiar with Soumitra Chatterjee. Guess I didn't make the connection since I've never seen him in this avatar! Should've been more observant!

I know right, this avatar is very far away from his otherwise serious demeanour 😆

This song is one of my favorites by ARR. I love when he fuses Classical music with western beats - a kind of unique fusion that only he does. He got Nithyashree Mahadevan, a Carnatic vocalist and grand-daughter of another famed Carnatic singer, D.K. Pattamal to sing this one set to the raagam Aberi (Hindustani Bhimpalas). From the movie Jeans, lyricist is Vairamuthu.

Aishwarya looks gorgeous and I thought the picturization with the tech-filled motion capture and hologram was soo cool!
