I first heard this piece of music as it was the theme of a show I watched and loved: House M.D. The theme became so synonymous with the show for me that I developed a special love for it because of that. But then I heard the full song and fell even more in love with it as a standalone piece.
The song is Teardrop
The vocalist is Elizabeth Fraser, former lead singer of Cocteau Twins (which is a great band too!). This time she's part of Massive Attack. I have not heard too much by this group, but this piece is a masterpiece. The lyrics. It gives me chills. Beautiful. Heart-breaking. But beautiful. Hard to believe this came out of 1998.
I have to post the lyrics too because they're stunningly haunting
Love, love is a verb
Love is a doing word
Fearless on my breath
Gentle impulsion
Shakes me, makes me lighter
Fearless on my breath
Teardrop on the fire
Fearless on my breath
Night, night of matter
Black flowers blossom
Fearless on my breath
Black flowers blossom
Fearless on my breath
Teardrop on the fire
Fearless on my
Water is my eye
Most faithful mirror
Fearless on my breath
Teardrop on the fire
Of a confession
Fearless on my breath
Most faithful mirror
Fearless on my breath
Teardrop on the fire
Fearless on my breath
You're stumbling in the dark
You're stumbling in the dark
