Hanuman Jayanthi is celebrated in order to honor one of the most powerful deities 'Lord Hanuman' in Hindu Mythology. The full moon day in the month of Chaitra which often falls between March and April is widely followed as Hanuman Jayanthi in North India. Other parts of India especially South India celebrate Hanuman Jayanthi at different times with their respective traditions. It is believed that the lack of solidarity evidence of Lord Hanuman's birth date in the Hindu calendar led to different groups of people celebrating on different dates according to their own religious beliefs.
Lord Hanuman, often addressed as Vanara God or Vayu Putra was born to Mata Anjana and Vanar Raj Kesari. Lord Hanuman is an immortal who possesses the power to eradicate all temptations. Legends say his mother Mata Anjana was an apsara who got cursed by a sage. She worshipped Lord Shiva for twelve years and by giving birth to Hanuman she got redeemed of her curse. Thus, Lord Hanuman is believed to be Lord Shiva's incarnation. Lord Hanuman is one of the most powerful in all realms. He's one of the protagonists in the epic Ramayana. He belongs to the Vanara clan (a monkey-like human form).
Lord Hanuman is worshiped as an epitome of devotion (as the purpose of his birth is to serve Lord Ram), eternal energy, faith, valor, and endless love. Devotees seek His blessings to attain success, provide protection, and win against all evils. On this auspicious day, Hindus visit Hanuman temples and offer prayers. A long day fast is observed followed by offering Sindoor to the Lord Hanuman idol, chanting mantras, and reciting Hanuman Chalisa.
