Todays challenge was pretty easy. If just adding black pepper and chili powder was enough, they could’ve pretty much made any cuisine.
I was surprised nobody chose to make anything Mexican - that’s the closest to Indian masala wise.
KDK had an amazing advantage. She was stupid to look to Aruna and Gurkirat for approval. I’m glad she used her advantage today. Shanta didn’t like it because she was disadvantaged, however when it came to her, she didn’t choose to give everyone their comfortable option.
I didn’t think Shanta really had an advantage, Nayanjyoti had a pretty good advantage - an extra 15 minutes!
Shanta made an Aubergine rollatini. She could’ve avoided using the kasuri methi, then she would’ve had no negative review for her dish. I think she chose well.
Aruna - she basically made a coconut milk and sabudana kheer, with rice and turmeric balls (which weren’t visible) and a pinch of black pepper, whose taste couldn’t be felt. Clearly the weakest and least complicated dish today.
Nayanjyoti - he made a paella. First things, a paella needs a starchy rice, basmati made it a pulao. He seemed to add a lot of masalas and some strong ones. He could’ve just used maybe pepper and red chili powder. The Spanish use saffron in paella anyway, so that’s another Indian spice. The eventual dish looked good. It was annoying to hear Ranveer call it ‘Pata’ and that it normally has sausage. It NEVER has sausage! And I say this, because I live in Spain. In fact in the city that paella is originally from.
Priyanka - I liked her dish. Teriyaki mushrooms are always good. Yes her pak choi was hidden, which is a pity. I think after Sachin, the judges want her out, but she’s quite strong.
Gurkirat - I thought it was silly to make a cake that needed to be iced in such a short time. But he somehow managed. He received fairly decent comments on his taste, though the judges also said that he wouldn’t have been selected if this was brought to the auditions.
Suvarna - making three dips and a lavash made it the best dish of the day. There’s almost no cooking required in a tabbouleh, except for soaking the cous cous. She chose the easy way out. Also, middle eastern cuisine uses jeera anyway, so she was smart that way.
Aruna’s dish was clearly the weakest with absolutely no technical difficulties or innovation. They definitely saved her today. And there was no reason given for not eliminating one from todays challenge.
I have been getting angry on the bias, but today for the first time my husband was also like - Just give her the trophy and stop playing with the other contestants!
