Women's Asia Cup 2022

Host Bangladesh is the defending champion. In 2018, it defeated India in a tight final to clinch the title.

After two India vs Pakistan matches in the men's event, fans can look forward to an India vs Pakistan clash in the women's tournament as well. Harmanpreet Kaur's side will face Bismah Maroof-led Pakistan women cricket team next Friday (October 7) in what is expected to be another thrilling encounter. This will be the first time the two arch-rivals will meet since India defeated Pakistan at the Commonwealth Games 2022.

Who are the participants?

A total of seven teams - India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates - will be competing for the title. The teams will play each other in a round-robin format, where each will play six games. The top four teams will reach the semifinals.

This is a new format. The last two editions featured six teams each, and the top two teams in the league stage directly played the final.

India’s fixtures

October 1 - vs Sri Lanka (1pm IST)

October 3 - vs Malaysia (1pm IST)

October 4 - vs UAE (1pm IST)

October 7 - vs Pakistan (1pm IST)

October 8 - vs Bangladesh (1pm IST)

October 10 - vs Thailand (1pm IST)

Harmanpreet Kaur-led India women cricket team will aim to clinch the title when the Women's Asia Cup 2022 gets underway in Sylhet, Bangladesh, from Saturday (October 1) onwards.

Defending champions Bangladesh are hosting the 2022 edition of the continental tournament. India, Pakistan, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Thailand and the debutants UAE are the other six teams in the tournament.

In a milestone moment for women’s cricket, the United Arab Emirates will be making its ‘debut’ in the tournament. The side defeated Malaysia in the ACC Women’s T20 Championship final and qualified for the Women’s Asia Cup.

Led by Chaya Mughal, the UAE team will face Sri Lanka in the campaign opener on October 2. Mughal, 36, has the joint-most wickets in the format for UAE (28 wickets), and she is the oldest player in the squad. Uncapped 15-year-old Rishitha Rajith has also been named in the UAE squad.

Will there be an India vs Pakistan game?

Yes. The arch-rivals will meet on October 7 in an afternoon game. Throughout the tournament, there won’t be any evening or night games. There will be double headers on most days, with the first game starting at 8.30 in the morning, followed by the second game at 1 pm. India will play all its matches in the afternoon.

Thanks for the thread and tag Madhu.🤗

Today there is a match between India and Sri Lanka and I have to miss the match as I am going out to watch a movie which starts just 15 minutes before the match. 😒

Hope fully I will catch the tail end of the game if the team batting first makes a good score.😊

Cheers..

Today's First Match --- Thailand vs Bangladesh

Shamima Sultana made an absolute mockery of the total. Scored boundary after boundary to deflate Thailand very early and when the opening stand reached fifty, she had made 42. Picked up an unfortunate dismissal with an edge disturbing the stumps off her leg, but she set it up so easily for her team and her opening partner Fargana held one end, while the captain came in and finished off in style.

Thailand were actually placed decently but they collapsed to spin and never came back.

THAIW 82 (19.4)

BANW 88/1 (11.4)

Bangladesh Women won by 9 wkts

PLAYER OF THE MATCH

Shamima Sultana

Thank you Madhu.🤗

So, this series will keep us occupied until 16th of October!

Can't believe how many matches everyone is playing non stop.

They better make different teams to play different types of matches. Otherwise they will end up with injuries and the series will become dull and boring.

Cheers..
