Finally, after a lot of delays and contemplation, the Asian Cricket Council announced the schedule for the Asia Cup.
The last edition of the Cup was held in 2018 in ODI format. The countries in Asia were all set to clash with each other on the cricketing grounds in 2020 in the T20 format when the pandemic hit the globe.
Due to this, the tournament was postponed. The delays were made to such an extent that the tournament is being played 2 years late.
Given that the pandemic has softened and the world is pacing towards a circumstance where COVID is not posing a huge threat, the Asia Cup is all set to be played in 2022.
The ACC or Asian Council of Cricket has announced the venue and schedule for the tournament.
The countries will face each in the T20 Tournament in the venues fixated by the ACC. This cup is one of the major events for Cricket in Asian Countries.
The tournament was first played in the year 1984. The last edition was held in an ODI format in the United Arab Emirates. India won the last Asia Cup as it emerged as the most successful in the cup, which did not lose even a single match. The Indian Batsman Shikhar Dhawan was named the Man of the Series for the Cup. After multiple postponements, the tournament will be held on the soil of Sri Lanka in August 2022.
The five prominent cricketing teams in the continent have qualified to participate in the cup. The qualifiers will also be held in Sri Lanka as well. It will be very interesting to see which new team will be added for the Asia Cup 2022.
