Hello everyone

I am deeply deeply sorry I was MiIA. Everyone at home was sick😭 one after another, and there was a giant work issue I was dealing with that almost gave me anxiety.

I was too exhausted to write or even think...

If any one is interested in reading this story, I can absolutely continue

Do let me know

I hope all is well with everyone

Much love

Do it now?

They sat on the terrace of Tushar’s house pondering what could be done, the deadline was two days away and the conveyance deed could not be found, the stay was expiring, she had driven herself crazy enough so her friends didn’t hear from her, she didn’t return her mother’s calls when she was at the store, Harkeerat had found her going through every book in the glass cases, and looking behind and underneath it

“Bhabhiji, aap usko bolo abhi temporary kahi shift ho jaayenge, jagah mil jaayegi to kahin aur khol lenge”

“I don’t know… who mujhe keh rahi hai, papa ki dukaan hai, gir gayi to kuch nahi bachega” Nidhi Bhushan teared up

“Hamare saath sab kuch hi galat hua, Bhaisab gaye, iska admission cancel, deed nahi mil rahi, khareedne waala bhi giraane ki baat kar raha hai”

“Maine har mandir mein mannat maangi gurudware mein bhi”

“Jee jee”

“Tushar to keh raha hai isko lekar kahin chali jaaoon”

“Court ne 3 mahiney ka stay diya hame bhi laga mil jaayega document”

“Abhi films ki tarah waha lete rahegi to police usko nikal degi, legally koi haq nahi hai uska”

“Aap us se baat karen, Kal December 1st hai sardi hai, aap dono South kahin ghoom aao”

“Nahi jaayegi who, khaati nahi raat ko, soti nahi… Sahil aur Aseem se attached hai behadh, unse ek baat nahi ki usne do hafte se”

“Kal to usko fever bhi tha raat ko” Harkeerat mumbled

“Aap soye shop mein?”

“Haan main aur Mrs, yahi so rahe hain hafte se”

Nidhi Bhushan cried softly

“ Main gayi shop mein 3 hafte pehle usne mujhe ghar bhej diya”

“Nahi Bhabhi aapko to rukna nahi chahiye”

“Nahi jab who boli somebody tried to break in mahina pehle, meri jaan nikal gayi” she screeched

“Ziddi hai”

“Main baat karke 6 mahine aur request kar loon buyers se?

“Ajee nahi… they are the famous builders from Delhi”

“Jaanti hoon ghar par ghuske, notice dee un logon ne”

Harkeerat cringed

“Jo bhi hoga ache ke liye hoga” Nidhi ended the call sadly

She cried for her daughter that night

Taruni had lost weight, was not taking care of herself, was going from one bout of cold to another

Brought her dinner back the next morning, almost everyday, was unable to eat or sleep in the shop

She read everything there was about the law

She called every person she knew

Tushar offered to speak with his father in law

But in the builder/contractor/supplies industry, his FIL was a really small fish compared to the Munjals.

Taruni had not tried to contact the buyer, or ever had a run in again with Pradyut

Pradyut visited Chandigarh multiple times during the 90 day notice period

He met with Ajit Singh Satnam Builders, he met with the government officials to explain their side of the story after an obscure news network picked up the news of “big bad Delhi company was trying to destroy the livelihood of a small family”

Strangely Taruni didn’t hear of it, sadly, she could not capitalize on that pity

She could have at least shared it on her SM accounts

Too late….

Whenever Pradyut visited Zenith Astro, which was usually around 8 or 9 PM to meet with Satnam, who still had somewhat of an office upstairs

He saw her behind the cash register of the book store, furiously typing on her laptop

She was fiery and fierce. She was making daily trips to the courthouse to convince the same judge to grant her an extension again

She was tireless and tenacious

Though she was completely in the wrong!!

He smirked and drove off one such evening

The last night of the extension arrived.

Harkeerat and his wife were not here yet

She locked up the back room, sent Subodh home, checked all the book cases

Reviewed the list of people she had to call in the morning to move everything out

Trucks, movers, electricians to remove the fittings, plumber, furniture dismantler, IT guy to disconnect the security system and take down all the computers and cash register

She sat down to cry intermittently

“At least you know I TRIED” she whimpered

It was 11ish, her dinner was going cold in the hot case

Her mother wanted to be there, but Aseem her nephew had a really high fever so Tushar and Pallavi wanted her to stay.

Nidhi walked barefeet all the way to Taruni’s car, two blocks from home, to hand her the dinner

“Sab theek hoga beta, rab rakha” she whispered hugging her daughter

“Papa wanted me to do something Ma, tabhi mere Michigan jaane ke mahina pehle guzre

“Aisa mat soch”

“No I am right… if I had gone, I would not have cared” “I would not have connected with Papa” Taruni hugged her mother and cried

“We have his things, we have all the unsold books, we have everything, Tushar is looking at Mohali… waha youngsters aate hain, coffee and book shop will sell beta”

“Mohali nahi ho paayega Ma… PRIME location hai Zenith Astro”

“EK CRORE ki shop hai, we have nothing… to prove, we cannot sell, kal subah the buyer will not give us even 50 lakhs” Nidhi was sad

Taruni saw the writing on the wall…. In her anxiety to save the shop she had had many fights with Gaurav and Aparna, they hadn’t even visited for Diwali

Even Tushar was not talking to them any more.

“Legally I am going to get something out” Taruni promised

She knew everything was lost

There was a knock on the store’s glass doors

She reached for the steel rod behind the cash register, turned on the lights and pulled up her phone and approached the door

It was Pradyut Munjal

Her heart sank

She unlocked the door with trembling fingers, and looked beyond him to see if there were goons

“Nope”

“Umm” she mumbled

“Can I come in?”

“Umm.. nope… this is legally not yours yet”

“I can call my lawyer”

She sighed

She stepped out into the freezing cold corridor

It was a foggy frigid night

Dogs barked at a distance

An occasional car sped by on the usually busy road

“Do you have the deed?” he asked straight up

“I can bring it at the court appointed time” she lied cockily

He knew there was nothing

She still looked fierce he thought

In blue jeans and a fiery red fleece hoodie

“Are u cold?” he asked

“Nope” she grinded her teeth to stop her chattering

“I know you don’t have the deed”

She was ready to pass out in despair

“You can keep the store… if you want” he said blandly

“All conditions off?” she began to cry openly “No papers? U are not demolishing it”

“Oh yes I am… but if you get married to me its yours” he said

“Can we get married NOW?” she asked unthinking… careless, thoughtless
